My practice focuses on a duality of treatment strategies: specifically psychotropic medication management in conjunction with non-pharmacologic treatment modalities including supportive psychotherapy, emotive supportive psychotherapy, and personalized variants of psychodynamic/interpersonal psychotherapy. For my outpatient practice, I focus on mood disorders, anxiety disorders, OCD, personality disorders, and family dynamics. I also have experience facilitating the coordination of psychosocial treatments in underserved populations.

I was born and raised in a neighborhood in the North Bronx. I attended Queens College, CUNY, where I graduated Summa Cum Laude with a B.A. in Hebrew. I completed medical school at NYIT College of Osteopathic Medicine in Old Westbury, NY, and thereafter was accepted to NUMC for psychiatry residency training. For my final year of residency, I was appointed to the position of Chief Resident for Academics & Research for the Psychiatry residency program at NUMC, Nassau University Medical Center. I received two awards during my residency training: the Acute Mental Health Services Award and the Ambulatory Mental Health Services Award at the end of my 2nd and 3rd years of residency training, respectively. At NUMC, I underwent rigorous training in a multitude of psychiatric settings and have experience managing a wide array of psychiatric areas of treatment, including mood/bipolar disorders, ADHD, depression, anxiety, and personality disorders, as well as the intersection of medical disorders and psychiatric disorders.

I offer an integration of medication management and various psychotherapy. I am certified in supportive psychotherapy, prolonged exposure therapy for PTSD, motivational interviewing, CBT for chronic pain, Integrated Behavioral Couples Therapy, and Whole Health. With the right combination of treatments, patients can achieve their potential and relieve suffering.

In an initial visit, patients can expect a thorough, collaborative discussion with shared decision making to understand their symptoms, life goals, and clinical needs. I will evaluate the patient's condition to determine appropriate medication interventions and discuss personalized treatment recommendations including integrated psychotherapy. Typical follow-up visits are approximately 20-30 minutes in length. Depending on the severity and complexity of a patient's situation, referrals to additional counseling or therapy may also be suggested.

I am a Board-Certified psychiatrist and psychoanalyst with over 30 years' experience in medication management and therapy. I trained and worked in New York City for 20 years and am now living in Hawaii. My training includes Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons, Columbia University Psychiatry Residency Program (Chief Resident), Columbia University Public Psychiatry Fellowship, and Columbia University Center for Psychoanalytic Training and Research.

My practice focuses on medication management, and I utilize a systematic approach to ensure diagnoses are accurate and treatment plans are optimized to each individual patient. My approach is also holistic in nature, often incorporating therapy and lifestyle modification into the treatment plan. I employ multiple therapeutic approaches depending on the needs of the patient, including supportive therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). I place great emphasis on psychoeducation so that patients are aware of the nature and prognosis of their conditions as well as the treatment options available. When multiple treatment options are reasonable, I take patient preference into account, offering flexibility to the patient experience. I treat a variety of psychiatric disorders with a particular focus on mood disorders, anxiety disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and trauma-related disorders.

I am a board-certified staff psychiatrist who treats adult patients. A former engineer, I have developed a passion for guiding patients along the road to recovery. I completed my undergraduate studies at The University of Texas at Austin and later completed medical school and residency in General Psychiatry at The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston.

Please note: I do not prescribe long-term, daily benzodiazepine medications; however, I am happy to help you taper off of these medications and transition to a safer, long-term medication regimen.

I use a variety of therapeutic approaches (supportive, CBT, DBT, psychodynamic) in combination with medication management to help patients identify and develop treatment plans towards their own unique goals. Having worked with patients across their lifespans allows me to take a well-rounded approach to identifying issues with my patients, especially in family settings.

I am a double board-certified psychiatrist in Psychiatry and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. I completed medical school in my home state at Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine, where the focus on mind-body connection now fits seamlessly into holistically minded patient care. I then completed General Psychiatry residency and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry fellowship at the University of Colorado, where I was Chief Fellow focused on improving resident/fellow experiences and ensuring all medical students took a firm grasp of psychiatry into their futures. Prior to joining Talkiatry, I worked in a residential treatment center for teenagers with eating disorders, gaining significant experience with challenging patients and their families.

I take an open, nonjudgmental approach and strive to create a safe space for patients to share vulnerably. I believe in leading with compassion and listening as a core tool for understanding. My treatment philosophy is integrative, combining thoughtful medication management with supportive, individualized therapy, and I encourage patients to consider the role of lifestyle factors like sleep, nutrition, and exercise. I begin with a conversational consultation focused on understanding each patient's story and needs, and together we co-create a personalized treatment plan grounded in the patient's values. I emphasize clear communication and routinely revisit treatment goals to ensure alignment, progress, and ongoing support.

I believe in a mind-body interconnection, and strive to address both aspects to provide truly holistic care. I am passionate about treating ADHD, and utilize medications plus skill building in my sessions to help my patients maximize their potential. My extensive experience also includes treating mood disorders, anxiety disorders, PTSD, and OCD. I work in partnership with patients to find a treatment plan that will be effective, while also being sensitive to financial or insurance coverage factors that may impact care.

I am a double board certified psychiatrist in General Psychiatry and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. Following completion of my training, I spent the next 10 years fulfilling my passion for indigent care of children, working in a community mental health center. I went on to complete additional training in Functional Medicine, with the goal of offering patients greater insight into the physical factors contributing to their symptoms. I have also trained in Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction, and encourage mindfulness as a healing technique along with medication management. I believe in a comprehensive approach to treatment that integrates medications, therapy, and lifestyle interventions. While medications can be very effective, I view them as just one part of a broader treatment plan tailored to each patient's needs. I emphasize individualized care and see treatment as a team effort, meeting patients where they are and progressing at a pace they feel ready for. I strive to create a warm, collaborative environment that fosters open communication and genuine connection. I may challenge patients therapeutically, but always with careful attention to their readiness and comfort. My goal is to build trust so that meaningful conversations and progress can occur. For me, success is always shared: when patients succeed, we succeed together; when challenges arise, we regroup and move forward together.

I have worked across outpatient, inpatient, and consult liaison settings, and have experience treating a wide range of conditions including depression, anxiety, ADHD, OCD, personality disorders, and transitional age concerns. I also have expertise working with LGBTQIA+ patients and provide psychodynamic, CBT, and supportive therapies.

I earned my medical degree from the University of Florida College of Medicine, where I also completed my psychiatry residency. During training, I was recognized with multiple awards, including the Malcom Randall VA Resident of the Year Award, the Ross A. McElroy Psychotherapy Award, and the John "J.D." Dorian Award for best sense of humor.

I use an integrative approach to health in my psychiatric practice, combining evidence-based concepts in neurobiology with psychological, social, and spiritual/existential worldviews to understand and treat every patient. My primary practice is medication management, and I also integrate elements of psychotherapy into my work, typically within 30-minute follow-up visits. In addition to medication and psychotherapy, I incorporate wellness tools into visits, such as mindfulness exercises and sleep management strategies. If I believe that additional psychotherapy is needed, I will recommend that you add a therapist to your care team. My primary focus is working with adults with mood and anxiety disorders, trauma symptoms, ADHD, and problems with sleep. I enjoy working with people facing life transitions, especially older adults and women who are struggling with mental health challenges related to pregnancy and post-partum health. I have extensive experience working with people from many stages of life, with diverse world views and cultural backgrounds. I have always had an inclusive practice and welcome people who identify as LBGTQIA+.

I am board certified in Adult Psychiatry and Sleep Medicine. I received my medical degree from Weill Cornell Medical School and my PhD in Neurobiology from The Rockefeller University. While my primary focus is pharmacological treatment, I frequently collaborate with therapists to provide comprehensive care when indicated. I have extensive experience treating civilians, active-duty military personnel, and veterans, addressing conditions such as mood and anxiety disorders, psychosis, and trauma-related disorders.

I am a board-certified adult psychiatrist. I earned my medical degree from the University of Louisville School of Medicine in Louisville, KY. I focus on an individualized treatment plan, not only using pharmacotherapy when needed, but also implementing insight-oriented, supportive, motivational, and brief psychotherapy. I am a firm believer in combining psychotherapy with medication management when warranted to manage and treat a wide variety of mental health conditions including, but not limited to, Depressive Disorders, Bipolar Disorders, Psychotic Disorders, Anxiety Disorders, Trauma related disorders, Substance use disorders, Personality disorders, Sleep Disorders, and Eating Disorders. My dynamic approach is client focused, involving the client throughout their treatment and care plan, taking careful consideration to the individual's needs and goals.

I was born and raised in St. Louis, MO and am board certified with ABPN (American Board of Psychiatry & Neurology). Upon completion of my residency through St. Louis University, St. Louis, I joined my parents' Internal Medicine practice. I learned firsthand that implementing mental health awareness, screening, and education into a primary medically focused practice led to more favorable outcomes. Many mental health conditions can manifest as and/or exacerbate a variety of medical/physical conditions and thereby go undiagnosed and untreated. I have worked closely and coordinated care within the medical field and with other specialists in treating and diagnosing comorbid mental health conditions.

While in private practice for over 10 years, I was also an attending and consultant for inpatient mental health care and provided mental health services for residents in various residential care facilities, group homes, and skilled nursing facilities. Over the past 5 years I have consolidated my practice and am presently employed with Compass Health Network in Missouri, helping bridge the gap in mental health care by coordinating and providing care to the underserved community.

FAQs

How does Talkiatry work?

Talkiatry is an online psychiatry practice designed to make high-quality mental health care more accessible. We’re 100% virtual, in-network with major insurance plans, and first appointments are typically available in days.

To get started, you’ll complete a quick online assessment to tell us what you’re looking for. We’ll match you with psychiatrists who are licensed in your state, in-network with your insurance, and experienced in treating your concerns. You’ll choose the clinician you’d like to work with.

Your first visit is an in-depth evaluation where your psychiatrist will listen, provide a diagnosis, and work with you to create a treatment plan tailored to your goals and preferences. You’ll continue seeing the same clinician over time, adjusting your plan as your needs evolve. Our team is always here to help with scheduling, insurance, and questions about your care.

Do you provide therapy?

Care at Talkiatry starts with psychiatry. If you already have a Talkiatry psychiatrist, they can refer you to one of our therapists if you’ve decided together that therapy is the right next step. However, you can’t see a Talkiatry therapist if you aren’t already seeing one of our psychiatrists.

What should I do if I’m having an emergency?

Talkiatry does not provide emergency care. If you or someone you know is in crisis, please visit your nearest emergency room, call 911, or call or text the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline at 988.

How much will my visit cost?

The majority of our visits cost patients $25 or less after insurance*, but your exact out-of-pocket cost depends on your plan. The best way to get a clear estimate is to contact your insurance provider directly. Here’s what to ask them:

  • Do I have mental health benefits that include outpatient psychiatry?
  • Is Talkiatry in-network for my plan?
  • What’s my copay or coinsurance for outpatient psychiatry visits?
  • Do I have a deductible? If so, how close am I to meeting it?
  • Do I have an out-of-pocket maximum? If so, how close am I to reaching it?
  • Are virtual or telehealth psychiatry visits covered the same as in-person care?
  • Is prior authorization required for outpatient psychiatry?
  • Can you provide a cost estimate for an in-network psychiatry visit using CPT code 99204?
  • Can you provide a cost estimate for an in-network psychotherapy visit using CPT code 90833?

*Includes all patient costs from 9/24-9/25: copayment, deductible, coinsurance, and $0 payments. Excludes missed appt. fees.  Your medical visit costs can vary depending on insurance coverage.

What if I don’t want to take medication?

Psychiatrists are medical doctors, and medication is often part of how they treat mental health conditions. At Talkiatry, your psychiatrist will start by listening and discussing your options with you. Medication is always your choice, but if it’s not something you’re open to considering, we may not be the best fit for ongoing care at this time.

How do I know if Talkiatry can help me?

Talkiatry provides virtual, in-network psychiatric care for people struggling with mild to moderate mental health issues. Here’s what we can help with:

  • Anxiety
  • ADHD (attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder)
  • Bipolar disorder
  • Child & adolescent care
  • Depression
  • OCD (obsessive-compulsive disorder)
  • Pregnancy & postpartum care
  • PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder)
  • Substance use disorder

Our goal is to connect you with the best possible care for you. At your first visit, your doctor will confirm whether Talkiatry is the right fit. If they recommend in-person or higher-level care, they’ll guide you to the appropriate resources.

What if my insurance changes from Aetna?

Insurance changes are common, and we’re here to help. Talkiatry is in-network with thousands of plans. If your insurance changes, reach out to a Care Coordinator to update your information and confirm your coverage by calling 833-351-TALK (8255).

Do I still take the assessment if I’m already diagnosed with anxiety?

Yes. Our online assessment is an important part of how we match you with the right psychiatrist. Your first visit will include a thorough evaluation so your psychiatrist can confirm your diagnosis and tailor your treatment plan to your current needs.
