My practice focuses on medication management. In my visits, I use an integrative approach, blending an empathic, problem-solving orientation with an understanding that the reasons for an individual's condition can be complex. I have experience dealing with many forms of mental illness and work collaboratively with my patients and their other treatment providers in making a plan for recovery.

I completed undergraduate studies at the University of Florida. After receiving my medical degree at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, I continued for residency at the University of Miami/Jackson Health System. I ultimately completed my training as Chief of Psychiatric Emergency Services at Yale School of Medicine. I have experience working with adults of all ages who are dealing with depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, PTSD, substance use disorders, and many other conditions.

My practice entails medication management accompanied by supportive psychotherapy. I frequently encourage other forms of psychotherapy with a counselor to maximize treatment outcomes.

I am a board certified adult psychiatric provider with over 10 years of experience, and I have additional years working in the medical field as a physician assistant. After completing medical school at Central America Health Science University, I returned to New York City and completed my psychiatry residency at New York Medical College Program at Metropolitan Hospital Center. Subsequently, I moved to Minnesota and worked with Park Nicollet Health Service/HealthPartners, where I spent 10.5 years overseeing a successful psychiatric practice and helping patients who had been struggling with their conditions. I am a member of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, in addition to the American Psychiatry Association and State Psychiatry Association.

I also enjoy attending conferences and reading journals to learn about cutting-edge treatments so that I remain updated on the most recent FDA-approved medications.

I provide patient-centered care with an emphasis on medication management, psychoeducation, and lifestyle adjustments. I typically provide supportive or integrative therapy along with medication management, but some cases will require the addition of a therapist to the treatment team. As an outpatient psychiatrist, I have an extensive history of treating patients of all ages with a wide variety of psychiatric disorders, with an emphasis on mood and anxiety disorders.

I am a Staff Psychiatrist at Talkiatry, certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in Adult Psychiatry, and have been practicing for three and a half years. I received a Bachelor's of Medical Science from the University of Western Ontario in Canada and my Medical Degree from Ross University. I completed my residency at Metropolitan Hospital in Manhattan, where I served as chief resident in my final year. I then worked as a psychiatrist in the outpatient department at Kings County Hospital, where I also supervised residents from SUNY Downstate. I treated patients remotely during the COVID-19 outbreak, helping to manage the increase in stress that came with the pandemic.

I am known for my compassionate, thoughtful approach to psychiatry and my commitment to helping patients feel genuinely seen and supported. I take pride in getting to know each person as a whole, beyond just symptoms or diagnoses, and work to build on that from the very first session. I treat a wide range of mental health conditions including depression, anxiety, ADHD, PTSD, OCD, bipolar and psychotic disorders. My approach is collaborative and patient-centered, with a strong focus on shared decision-making. Treatment often includes medication management and therapy techniques like cognitive behavioral therapy and motivational interviewing. Sessions are always a judgment-free space where patients feel safe, respected, and empowered.

Originally from New York, I completed my undergraduate studies at the University of Buffalo, earned my medical degree from St. George's University, and completed residency training at Northwell Health in New York and Connecticut.

During an initial visit, I conduct a thoughtful and collaborative assessment focused on understanding a patient's symptoms, experiences, and treatment goals. From there, I work closely with each person to develop a personalized plan, including medication options and other therapeutic strategies. My goal is to create a safe, respectful space where patients feel heard, empowered, and supported throughout their care.

I use an integrative approach to health in my psychiatric practice, combining evidence-based concepts in neurobiology with psychological, social, and spiritual/existential worldviews to understand and treat every patient. My primary practice is medication management, and I also integrate elements of psychotherapy into my work, typically within 30-minute follow-up visits. In addition to medication and psychotherapy, I incorporate wellness tools into visits, such as mindfulness exercises and sleep management strategies. If I believe that additional psychotherapy is needed, I will recommend that you add a therapist to your care team. My primary focus is working with adults with mood and anxiety disorders, trauma symptoms, ADHD, and problems with sleep. I enjoy working with people facing life transitions, especially older adults and women who are struggling with mental health challenges related to pregnancy and post-partum health. I have extensive experience working with people from many stages of life, with diverse world views and cultural backgrounds. I have always had an inclusive practice and welcome people who identify as LBGTQIA+.

I am board certified in Adult Psychiatry and Sleep Medicine. I received my medical degree from Weill Cornell Medical School and my PhD in Neurobiology from The Rockefeller University. I completed my Psychiatry residency and Sleep Medicine Fellowship training at the New York University Medical Center. I was the medical director of the Consultation Liaison Service at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, and an assistant professor at UMass Medical School.

I have published and presented widely on topics related to Wellness in Psychiatry, Ethics, and Sleep Medicine. I am an advocate for finding your voice in medical decision-making. As part of my own life path, I became an Interfaith Minister and enjoy including spirituality and the supportive role it can play in healing for my patients. I also enjoy using sound healing for relaxation and stress management.

I also emphasize the importance of lifestyle, sleep, mindfulness, and nutrition, and their impact on overall mental health. I have experience treating anxiety disorder, traumatic disorders, depressive and bipolar disorders, substance use disorders, ADHD, OCD, and psychotic disorders. I prefer a holistic approach that takes the time to know the whole patient, incorporating biological, psychological, social, and cultural perspectives in crafting a comprehensive, individualized treatment plan. I practice medication management combined with supportive therapy, typically delivered within 30-minute sessions. Elements of psychodynamic, dialectical behavior, and cognitive-behavioral therapy are also incorporated into sessions based on a patient's individual needs. If additional therapy is needed, I will recommend the addition of an individual therapist to the patient's treatment team. My primary focus is working with patients with depression, anxiety, ADHD, and PTSD. I also value working with people adjusting to changes in their lives, whether it be grieving the loss of a loved one, changes in employment, relationships, or adjusting to changes that come with age.

I am a board certified adult psychiatrist. I completed my undergraduate training at Yale University and received my medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. I completed my residency training at the Cambridge Health Alliance/Harvard Medical School Adult Psychiatry Training Program. Having dedicated my career to adult outpatient psychiatry, I have worked with patients from a wide range of ages, cultures, ethnicities, and social settings across the New York City area. Prior to joining Talkiatry, I was an Assistant Professor at the NYU Grossman School of Medicine and served as Director of the Adult Outpatient Psychiatric Department, Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) Team, and Collaborative Care Departments at Woodhull Hospital in Brooklyn, New York. I also had a small practice near my home.

I have had a lifelong interest in meeting new people and experiencing different cultures. This interest has taken me as far away as the townships of Cape Town, South Africa and as close as my local diner, and it edifies the work I do with patients.

FAQs

How does Talkiatry work?

Talkiatry is an online psychiatry practice designed to make high-quality mental health care more accessible. We’re 100% virtual, in-network with major insurance plans, and first appointments are typically available in days.

To get started, you’ll complete a quick online assessment to tell us what you’re looking for. We’ll match you with psychiatrists who are licensed in your state, in-network with your insurance, and experienced in treating your concerns. You’ll choose the clinician you’d like to work with.

Your first visit is an in-depth evaluation where your psychiatrist will listen, provide a diagnosis, and work with you to create a treatment plan tailored to your goals and preferences. You’ll continue seeing the same clinician over time, adjusting your plan as your needs evolve. Our team is always here to help with scheduling, insurance, and questions about your care.

Do you provide therapy?

Care at Talkiatry starts with psychiatry. If you already have a Talkiatry psychiatrist, they can refer you to one of our therapists if you’ve decided together that therapy is the right next step. However, you can’t see a Talkiatry therapist if you aren’t already seeing one of our psychiatrists.

What should I do if I’m having an emergency?

Talkiatry does not provide emergency care. If you or someone you know is in crisis, please visit your nearest emergency room, call 911, or call or text the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline at 988.

How much will my visit cost?

The majority of our visits cost patients $25 or less after insurance*, but your exact out-of-pocket cost depends on your plan. The best way to get a clear estimate is to contact your insurance provider directly. Here’s what to ask them:

  • Do I have mental health benefits that include outpatient psychiatry?
  • Is Talkiatry in-network for my plan?
  • What’s my copay or coinsurance for outpatient psychiatry visits?
  • Do I have a deductible? If so, how close am I to meeting it?
  • Do I have an out-of-pocket maximum? If so, how close am I to reaching it?
  • Are virtual or telehealth psychiatry visits covered the same as in-person care?
  • Is prior authorization required for outpatient psychiatry?
  • Can you provide a cost estimate for an in-network psychiatry visit using CPT code 99204?
  • Can you provide a cost estimate for an in-network psychotherapy visit using CPT code 90833?

*Includes all patient costs from 9/24-9/25: copayment, deductible, coinsurance, and $0 payments. Excludes missed appt. fees.  Your medical visit costs can vary depending on insurance coverage.

What if I don’t want to take medication?

Psychiatrists are medical doctors, and medication is often part of how they treat mental health conditions. At Talkiatry, your psychiatrist will start by listening and discussing your options with you. Medication is always your choice, but if it’s not something you’re open to considering, we may not be the best fit for ongoing care at this time.

How do I know if Talkiatry can help me?

Talkiatry provides virtual, in-network psychiatric care for people struggling with mild to moderate mental health issues. Here’s what we can help with:

  • Anxiety
  • ADHD (attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder)
  • Bipolar disorder
  • Child & adolescent care
  • Depression
  • OCD (obsessive-compulsive disorder)
  • Pregnancy & postpartum care
  • PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder)
  • Substance use disorder

Our goal is to connect you with the best possible care for you. At your first visit, your doctor will confirm whether Talkiatry is the right fit. If they recommend in-person or higher-level care, they’ll guide you to the appropriate resources.

What if my insurance changes from Cigna?

Insurance changes are common, and we’re here to help. Talkiatry is in-network with thousands of plans. If your insurance changes, reach out to a Care Coordinator to update your information and confirm your coverage by calling 833-351-TALK (8255).

Do I still take the assessment if I’m already diagnosed with ADHD?

Yes. Our online assessment is an important part of how we match you with the right psychiatrist. Your first visit will include a thorough evaluation so your psychiatrist can confirm your diagnosis and tailor your treatment plan to your current needs.
