I'm a board-certified adult psychiatrist. I completed my medical training at the University of California Irvine School of Medicine, then moved to New York for my psychiatric residency at Mount Sinai Beth Israel. During training, I gained extensive clinical experience across psychiatric inpatient, outpatient, and emergency settings, which gave me the opportunity to treat patients of all ages and backgrounds. I also co-led a mindfulness group at the outpatient clinic, worked with students at Baruch College, and rotated with the Assertive Community Treatment team at MSBI.

Ultimately, I chose to specialize in outpatient care, focusing on treating patients with mood and anxiety disorders. While my practice primarily emphasizes medication management, I also incorporate supportive and cognitive behavioral therapy techniques in my sessions. If appropriate, I'll refer you for psychotherapy and collaborate with your therapist to support your care. I look forward to meeting and working with you to help you feel better.

I use a practical and realistic approach with patients to assist them in identifying small, attainable goals and then motivating them to achieve those goals. I prefer to work with adults and relish the opportunity to work with patients who are highly motivated for change.

I completed medical school at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock, Arkansas in 1995. I then completed a residency in general psychiatry at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, followed by a fellowship in forensic psychiatry also at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia from 1995–2000. I spent ten years practicing forensic psychiatry at a state hospital in Atlanta. I then decided that I wanted to travel and spent eighteen months as a locum tenens psychiatrist primarily practicing in New England. During this time, I met my future husband and we decided together that we eventually wanted to live in the New England area. In 2013, I officially became a telepsychiatrist, which eventually provided me with the opportunity to move to Rhode Island and practice out of the home my husband and I bought there. I initially saw patients via telepsychiatry at a community mental health center in rural Georgia and later took a position as a remote consultant telepsychiatrist at Acadia Hospital in Bangor, Maine.

I emphasize integrating therapy and medication management, and I create a warm, safe, and respectful space where patients feel understood and supported in their journey to recovery. My approach focuses on treating the whole person, recognizing that everyone's story is unique and informs the best path forward. I conduct thorough evaluations and use evidence-based prescribing while incorporating psychotherapeutic modalities such as CBT, executive skills training, insight-oriented approaches, and motivational interviewing. Understanding a patient's history, current symptoms, and treatment goals is central to developing an effective plan and building a strong therapeutic relationship. I treat a wide range of conditions, including anxiety, OCD, ADHD, PTSD, depression, bipolar disorder, and more, with experience across diverse populations.

I am a board-certified psychiatrist with over 20 years of experience working with adults of all ages. I earned a bachelor's degree in psychology from NYU, a medical degree from Rush Medical College, and completed my psychiatry training at Yale. I have practiced in inpatient, consultation-liaison, and emergency psychiatry settings, though my primary passion is outpatient care, where I build long-term therapeutic relationships. I have worked in private practice and clinic settings and serve on the faculty at Yale's Psychiatry Department, teaching and supervising trainees.

I prefer a holistic approach that takes the time to know the whole patient, incorporating biological, psychological, social, and cultural perspectives in crafting a comprehensive, individualized treatment plan. I practice medication management combined with supportive therapy, typically delivered within 30-minute sessions. Elements of psychodynamic, dialectical behavior, and cognitive-behavioral therapy are also incorporated into sessions based on a patient's individual needs. If additional therapy is needed, I will recommend the addition of an individual therapist to the patient's treatment team. My primary focus is working with patients with depression, anxiety, ADHD, and PTSD. I also value working with people adjusting to changes in their lives, whether it be grieving the loss of a loved one, changes in employment, relationships, or adjusting to changes that come with age.

I am a board certified adult psychiatrist. I completed my undergraduate training at Yale University and received my medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. I completed my residency training at the Cambridge Health Alliance/Harvard Medical School Adult Psychiatry Training Program. Having dedicated my career to adult outpatient psychiatry, I have worked with patients from a wide range of ages, cultures, ethnicities, and social settings across the New York City area. Prior to joining Talkiatry, I was an Assistant Professor at the NYU Grossman School of Medicine and served as Director of the Adult Outpatient Psychiatric Department, Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) Team, and Collaborative Care Departments at Woodhull Hospital in Brooklyn, New York. I also had a small practice near my home.

I have had a lifelong interest in meeting new people and experiencing different cultures. This interest has taken me as far away as the townships of Cape Town, South Africa and as close as my local diner, and it edifies the work I do with patients.

At the heart of my clinical approach is a strong emphasis on establishing trust, building a therapeutic relationship to help patients achieve their goals, and helping people better understand their brain, its strengths, and vulnerabilities and how to use assessment and training to maximize everyone's unique emotional and cognitive capacity. My practice focuses on medication management. Typically, I offer this in conjunction with supportive or emotionally focused therapy in 30-minute follow-up visits. Occasionally I may believe that additional therapy is also needed and ask that you bring a therapist into your care team to provide the best outcome. I believe that every patient is unique and every situation different. I seek to bring a wealth of experience to bear but, above all, to do so with a personalized and compassionate focus on what will help everyone specifically, practically, effectively, and efficiently. I am especially happy to help people new to emotional help understand the value of different approaches.

I am a board-certified adult psychiatrist with a strong background in neuroscience and psychopharmacology who has been in practice for over 25 years. I received my medical degree from Dartmouth Medical School and went on to complete my residency in psychiatry at MGH in Boston. After completing training, I have worked in every setting from a Community Mental Health Center in rural VT, a General Hospital Department of Psychiatry in Waterbury CT, and a private psychiatric hospital in Massachusetts. I have held academic clinical appointments at Dartmouth, Yale, and Harvard and provided supervision to medical students, residents, APRNs, Social Workers, and Mental Health Clinicians. In addition to my direct clinical work, I have extensive experience with value-based care having worked with the behavioral divisions of CIGNA Behavioral Health, Optum Behavioral Health, and MCG. I practice a holistic approach, combining psychiatric medications with elements of psychotherapy and mindfulness. I offer individualized and comprehensive treatment plans that address the whole person, including lifestyle and social engagement, because the latest research findings show that both play an important role in mental and physical health. Education on mental illness and recommendations on diet and exercise are always discussed with my patients according to each individual's needs. I spend time listening to patients and make plans based on clinical evidence without an authoritative approach, taking into consideration the patient's level of comfort and views because, in my experience, the best outcomes are always reached when patients fully understand and agree with the management of their conditions. I have extensive experience in psychopharmacology and offer state-of-the-art medication management with compassion and empathy, with a focus on mood disorders and anxiety.

I am Board Certified in Adult Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. I obtained my medical degree with Laude from the University of Rome, La Sapienza, and completed my residency in Psychiatry at Yale School of Medicine. I have been in practice for more than twenty years and have extensive experience in general Adult Psychiatry. I have led clinical programs and taught medical students, residents, and fellows in psychiatry and addiction in various clinical settings, including private institutions and universities such as Yale School of Medicine. Prior to joining Talkiatry, I had my own in-person clinical services for over ten years and telehealth services over the past four years, treating patients suffering mainly from depression, bipolar disorder, and anxiety. During my time in private practice, I received the Compassionate Doctor Recognition (Vitals) and the Patient's Choice Awards (Vitals), both based on patients' reviews.

FAQs

How does Talkiatry work?

Talkiatry is an online psychiatry practice designed to make high-quality mental health care more accessible. We’re 100% virtual, in-network with major insurance plans, and first appointments are typically available in days.

To get started, you’ll complete a quick online assessment to tell us what you’re looking for. We’ll match you with psychiatrists who are licensed in your state, in-network with your insurance, and experienced in treating your concerns. You’ll choose the clinician you’d like to work with.

Your first visit is an in-depth evaluation where your psychiatrist will listen, provide a diagnosis, and work with you to create a treatment plan tailored to your goals and preferences. You’ll continue seeing the same clinician over time, adjusting your plan as your needs evolve. Our team is always here to help with scheduling, insurance, and questions about your care.

Do you provide therapy?

Care at Talkiatry starts with psychiatry. If you already have a Talkiatry psychiatrist, they can refer you to one of our therapists if you’ve decided together that therapy is the right next step. However, you can’t see a Talkiatry therapist if you aren’t already seeing one of our psychiatrists.

What should I do if I’m having an emergency?

Talkiatry does not provide emergency care. If you or someone you know is in crisis, please visit your nearest emergency room, call 911, or call or text the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline at 988.

How much will my visit cost?

The majority of our visits cost patients $25 or less after insurance*, but your exact out-of-pocket cost depends on your plan. The best way to get a clear estimate is to contact your insurance provider directly. Here’s what to ask them:

  • Do I have mental health benefits that include outpatient psychiatry?
  • Is Talkiatry in-network for my plan?
  • What’s my copay or coinsurance for outpatient psychiatry visits?
  • Do I have a deductible? If so, how close am I to meeting it?
  • Do I have an out-of-pocket maximum? If so, how close am I to reaching it?
  • Are virtual or telehealth psychiatry visits covered the same as in-person care?
  • Is prior authorization required for outpatient psychiatry?
  • Can you provide a cost estimate for an in-network psychiatry visit using CPT code 99204?
  • Can you provide a cost estimate for an in-network psychotherapy visit using CPT code 90833?

*Includes all patient costs from 9/24-9/25: copayment, deductible, coinsurance, and $0 payments. Excludes missed appt. fees.  Your medical visit costs can vary depending on insurance coverage.

What if I don’t want to take medication?

Psychiatrists are medical doctors, and medication is often part of how they treat mental health conditions. At Talkiatry, your psychiatrist will start by listening and discussing your options with you. Medication is always your choice, but if it’s not something you’re open to considering, we may not be the best fit for ongoing care at this time.

How do I know if Talkiatry can help me?

Talkiatry provides virtual, in-network psychiatric care for people struggling with mild to moderate mental health issues. Here’s what we can help with:

  • Anxiety
  • ADHD (attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder)
  • Bipolar disorder
  • Child & adolescent care
  • Depression
  • OCD (obsessive-compulsive disorder)
  • Pregnancy & postpartum care
  • PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder)
  • Substance use disorder

Our goal is to connect you with the best possible care for you. At your first visit, your doctor will confirm whether Talkiatry is the right fit. If they recommend in-person or higher-level care, they’ll guide you to the appropriate resources.

What if my insurance changes from Blue Cross Blue Shield?

Insurance changes are common, and we’re here to help. Talkiatry is in-network with thousands of plans. If your insurance changes, reach out to a Care Coordinator to update your information and confirm your coverage by calling 833-351-TALK (8255).

Do I still take the assessment if I’m already diagnosed with anxiety?

Yes. Our online assessment is an important part of how we match you with the right psychiatrist. Your first visit will include a thorough evaluation so your psychiatrist can confirm your diagnosis and tailor your treatment plan to your current needs.
