I am an adult, child, and adolescent psychiatrist. I am passionate about my work and understand the impact of mental illnesses in daily life activities and in the family system. I have experience treating children and adults with anxiety, depression, OCD, PTSD, ADHD, dementia, and more. I utilize medication management in conjunction with emotional and supportive therapy in 30-minute follow-up visits. I work with each patient in an individualized manner and tailor personalized treatment plans that may include pharmacological treatment. In addition, I may recommend including a therapist in your care team to provide the best outcome.

I am originally from Guayaquil, Ecuador, and am bilingual in Spanish and English. I earned my medical degree from Universidad de Guayaquil in Ecuador and then participated in a medical program at The William J. Harrington Training Program for Latin America and the Caribbean, at Jackson Memorial Hospital, an affiliate of the University of Miami in Florida. Afterwards, I completed my adult psychiatry residency at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, Bronx Care Health System, and my fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry at Northwell Health in New York. I have experience working in various settings, including inpatient, outpatient, and emergency departments. My primary focus is on medication management, though I also have experience working in four different outpatient clinics where I have gained expertise in multiple different therapy modalities. If appropriate, I will refer you for psychotherapy and collaborate with your therapist to support your care. I appreciate the importance of fostering a meaningful therapeutic relationship, and my goal is to make every patient feel welcomed in a non-judgmental treatment environment. I also take a holistic approach, as I understand that good health creates a sense of overall well-being and improved mental health. I strongly emphasize the importance of mindfulness, self-compassion, exercise, nutrition, and interpersonal relationships throughout treatment.

I am a board-certified adult psychiatrist and board-certified child and adolescent psychiatrist. I completed my medical education at Cooper Medical School of Rowan University, then completed my residency in adult psychiatry at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai Beth Israel, and went on to complete my child and adolescent psychiatry fellowship at NYU Langone and Bellevue Hospital. During this time, I also taught a course titled Love Actually at NYU School of Arts and Science. During training, I gained extensive clinical experience in psychiatric inpatient, outpatient, and emergency settings, allowing me the opportunity to treat patients of all ages and backgrounds in numerous busy hospitals in New York City.

I use an integrative approach to health in my psychiatric practice, combining evidence-based concepts in neurobiology with psychological, social, and spiritual/existential worldviews to understand and treat every patient. My primary practice is medication management, and I also integrate elements of psychotherapy into my work, typically within 30-minute follow-up visits. In addition to medication and psychotherapy, I incorporate wellness tools into visits, such as mindfulness exercises and sleep management strategies. If I believe that additional psychotherapy is needed, I will recommend that you add a therapist to your care team. My primary focus is working with adults with mood and anxiety disorders, trauma symptoms, ADHD, and problems with sleep. I enjoy working with people facing life transitions, especially older adults and women who are struggling with mental health challenges related to pregnancy and post-partum health. I have extensive experience working with people from many stages of life, with diverse world views and cultural backgrounds. I have always had an inclusive practice and welcome people who identify as LBGTQIA+.

I am board certified in Adult Psychiatry and Sleep Medicine. I received my medical degree from Weill Cornell Medical School and my PhD in Neurobiology from The Rockefeller University. I completed my Psychiatry residency and Sleep Medicine Fellowship training at the New York University Medical Center. Prior to joining Talkiatry, I was working at Hartford Healthcare with adults in intensive outpatient programs and at Hackensack Meridian Health outpatient clinics. I was the medical director of the Consultation Liaison Service at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, and an assistant professor at UMass Medical School.

I have published and presented widely on topics related to Wellness in Psychiatry, Ethics, and Sleep Medicine. I am an advocate for finding your voice in medical decision-making. As part of my own life path, I became an Interfaith Minister and enjoy including spirituality and the supportive role it can play in healing for my patients. I also enjoy using sound healing for relaxation and stress management.

At the heart of my clinical approach is a strong emphasis on establishing trust, rapport, and therapeutic alliance to help persons to feel and live well and to progress toward their goals, both in treatment and in life. I begin with consultation, a compassionate, collaborative process of discovery that culminates in a working diagnostic impression and, in turn, treatment recommendations. For those with whom I engage in a treatment relationship, I provide psychoeducation, medication management, and individual psychotherapy, this last modality predominantly drawing from both psychodynamic and behavioral psychological models to tailor treatment to each patient. On some occasions, I may believe that additional therapy is needed and ask that you bring a therapist into your care team to provide the best outcome.

I am a board-certified adult psychiatrist who has been in practice for over ten years. I received my medical degree from Stanford University and went on to complete my residency in psychiatry at Harvard University. After completing training, I cultivated a private practice of psychiatry in San Francisco, California, treating persons with a variety of psychiatric illnesses, while also providing consultation and clinical supervision to psychotherapists in day-treatment and office-based practices. I then served as a psychiatry professor at the Florida Atlantic University Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine in Florida, where, as Associate Director of the Psychiatry Residency Training Program, I provided psychiatric inpatient treatment while bringing leadership, scholarship, teaching, supervision, and mentoring to psychiatry residents and medical students. Most recently, I worked as a senior medical officer/consultant psychiatrist in New Zealand's public health system, serving local communities with expert diagnosis and treatment for a wide range of mental health conditions. I also continued to supervise U.S.-based psychiatrists, along with New Zealand psychotherapists, in advanced and complex clinical psychopharmacology and psychotherapy.

I am known for my compassionate, thoughtful approach to psychiatry and my commitment to helping patients feel genuinely seen and supported. I take pride in getting to know each person as a whole, beyond just symptoms or diagnoses, and work to build on that from the very first session. I treat a wide range of mental health conditions including depression, anxiety, ADHD, PTSD, OCD, bipolar and psychotic disorders. My approach is collaborative and patient-centered, with a strong focus on shared decision-making. Treatment often includes medication management and therapy techniques like cognitive behavioral therapy and motivational interviewing. Sessions are always a judgment-free space where patients feel safe, respected, and empowered.

Originally from New York, I completed my undergraduate studies at the University of Buffalo, earned my medical degree from St. George's University, and completed residency training at Northwell Health in New York and Connecticut.

During an initial visit, I conduct a thoughtful and collaborative assessment focused on understanding a patient's symptoms, experiences, and treatment goals. From there, I work closely with each person to develop a personalized plan, including medication options and other therapeutic strategies. My goal is to create a safe, respectful space where patients feel heard, empowered, and supported throughout their care.

I am a Staff Psychiatrist at Talkiatry, certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in Adult Psychiatry, and have been practicing for three and a half years. I'm a board-certified adult psychiatrist. I completed my medical training at the University of California Irvine School of Medicine, then moved to New York for my psychiatric residency at Mount Sinai Beth Israel. During training, I gained extensive clinical experience across psychiatric inpatient, outpatient, and emergency settings, which gave me the opportunity to treat patients of all ages and backgrounds. I also co-led a mindfulness group at the outpatient clinic, worked with students at Baruch College, and rotated with the Assertive Community Treatment team at MSBI.

Ultimately, I chose to specialize in outpatient care, focusing on treating patients with mood and anxiety disorders. While my practice primarily emphasizes medication management, I also incorporate supportive and cognitive behavioral therapy techniques in my sessions. FAQs

How does Talkiatry work?

Talkiatry is an online psychiatry practice designed to make high-quality mental health care more accessible. We’re 100% virtual, in-network with major insurance plans, and first appointments are typically available in days.

To get started, you’ll complete a quick online assessment to tell us what you’re looking for. We’ll match you with psychiatrists who are licensed in your state, in-network with your insurance, and experienced in treating your concerns. You’ll choose the clinician you’d like to work with.

Your first visit is an in-depth evaluation where your psychiatrist will listen, provide a diagnosis, and work with you to create a treatment plan tailored to your goals and preferences. You’ll continue seeing the same clinician over time, adjusting your plan as your needs evolve. Our team is always here to help with scheduling, insurance, and questions about your care.

Do you provide therapy?

Care at Talkiatry starts with psychiatry. If you already have a Talkiatry psychiatrist, they can refer you to one of our therapists if you’ve decided together that therapy is the right next step. However, you can’t see a Talkiatry therapist if you aren’t already seeing one of our psychiatrists.

What should I do if I’m having an emergency?

Talkiatry does not provide emergency care. If you or someone you know is in crisis, please visit your nearest emergency room, call 911, or call or text the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline at 988.

How much will my visit cost?

The majority of our visits cost patients $25 or less after insurance*, but your exact out-of-pocket cost depends on your plan. The best way to get a clear estimate is to contact your insurance provider directly. Here’s what to ask them:

  • Do I have mental health benefits that include outpatient psychiatry?
  • Is Talkiatry in-network for my plan?
  • What’s my copay or coinsurance for outpatient psychiatry visits?
  • Do I have a deductible? If so, how close am I to meeting it?
  • Do I have an out-of-pocket maximum? If so, how close am I to reaching it?
  • Are virtual or telehealth psychiatry visits covered the same as in-person care?
  • Is prior authorization required for outpatient psychiatry?
  • Can you provide a cost estimate for an in-network psychiatry visit using CPT code 99204?
  • Can you provide a cost estimate for an in-network psychotherapy visit using CPT code 90833?

*Includes all patient costs from 9/24-9/25: copayment, deductible, coinsurance, and $0 payments. Excludes missed appt. fees.  Your medical visit costs can vary depending on insurance coverage.

What if I don’t want to take medication?

Psychiatrists are medical doctors, and medication is often part of how they treat mental health conditions. At Talkiatry, your psychiatrist will start by listening and discussing your options with you. Medication is always your choice, but if it’s not something you’re open to considering, we may not be the best fit for ongoing care at this time.

How do I know if Talkiatry can help me?

Talkiatry provides virtual, in-network psychiatric care for people struggling with mild to moderate mental health issues. Here’s what we can help with:

  • Anxiety
  • ADHD (attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder)
  • Bipolar disorder
  • Child & adolescent care
  • Depression
  • OCD (obsessive-compulsive disorder)
  • Pregnancy & postpartum care
  • PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder)
  • Substance use disorder

Our goal is to connect you with the best possible care for you. At your first visit, your doctor will confirm whether Talkiatry is the right fit. If they recommend in-person or higher-level care, they’ll guide you to the appropriate resources.

What if my insurance changes from Cigna?

Insurance changes are common, and we’re here to help. Talkiatry is in-network with thousands of plans. If your insurance changes, reach out to a Care Coordinator to update your information and confirm your coverage by calling 833-351-TALK (8255).

Do I still take the assessment if I’m already diagnosed with depression?

Yes. Our online assessment is an important part of how we match you with the right psychiatrist. Your first visit will include a thorough evaluation so your psychiatrist can confirm your diagnosis and tailor your treatment plan to your current needs.
