I am a board-eligible psychiatrist who specializes in the treatment of adults. I seek to provide a safe, non-judgmental, gender affirming space for patients as they strive to lead a happier, more contented life. I employ a holistic, multimodal treatment approach, and aiming to treat the whole person, I stress the importance of nutrition, exercise, and sleep. I believe an informed patient actively engaged in decision making surrounding treatment has the best chance of effecting lasting change. Believing in the synergistic effect of talk therapy and medication, I incorporate one or more talk therapy techniques, including motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral therapy, and supportive and psychodynamic psychotherapies, into most sessions. I often recommend formal participation in some form of talk therapy and am happy to collaborate with other providers.

I have experience treating patients with various forms of depression and anxiety, bipolar disorder, OCD, ADHD, PTSD, and substance use disorders. After a pediatrics residency, I worked for 13 years as a pediatric ER physician. My interest in psychiatry was piqued during this time as I witnessed the emergence of a child and adolescent mental health crisis. While ultimately deciding to focus my efforts on the treatment of adults, I am keenly aware of the influence of child development and family systems on the behavioral health of adults.

I received my Bachelor of Arts and Doctor of Medicine degrees from the University of Pennsylvania and completed my Residency in Psychiatry at Mount Sinai Medical Center in Manhattan. I have been board certified in psychiatry since 2001 and am a Life Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association. I have held numerous clinical and academic appointments, including serving as Chairperson of Psychiatry at Huntington Hospital in Huntington, New York, and Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at Hofstra North Shore-LIJ School of Medicine. I focus on medication management as the foundation of my treatment approach, typically combining it with supportive or emotionally focused therapy during 30-minute follow-up visits. I take a collaborative and individualized approach to patient care and, when needed, may recommend additional therapy by integrating a therapist into the care team to ensure the best possible outcomes. I have experience treating a broad range of psychiatric disorders in various clinical settings.

In a first visit, patients can expect a thorough and structured evaluation in which I carefully assess their symptoms, medical history, and treatment goals. I emphasize open communication and collaboration, ensuring that patients are fully involved in shaping their treatment plans. Follow-up visits typically last 30 minutes, during which I monitor progress, adjust treatment as needed, and may recommend additional therapeutic support for comprehensive care.

I am a board-certified psychiatrist. I earned my medical degree from the New York University School of Medicine and completed my residency in Adult Psychiatry at the Massachusetts General Hospital/McLean Adult Psychiatry Residency Program. I further specialized by completing a one-year clinical and research fellowship in Public and Community Psychiatry through Massachusetts General Hospital and the Massachusetts Department of Mental Health. In addition to my medical training, I hold a Master of Public Health (MPH) from the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. I have over three years of experience practicing psychiatry across inpatient, emergency, and outpatient settings.

I am dedicated to creating a safe, supportive space where people feel truly heard, believing good psychiatry starts with listening. I foster a warm, respectful, and judgment-free environment where patients can share openly. I take time to understand each person's symptoms, story, values, and goals. Medication is just one option; I also consider therapy, lifestyle changes, and other supports. Collaboration and trust are central to my approach, with patients guiding the care decisions.

During the first appointment, I conduct an in-depth, unhurried conversation to explore the patient's history and goals. Together, we develop a personalized treatment plan that may include medication, therapy referrals, and practical strategies. Ongoing follow-ups provide space to track progress, make adjustments, and ensure the patient feels comfortable and empowered. I diagnose and treat a wide variety of conditions, including depression, anxiety, OCD, PTSD, trauma-related disorders, phobias, personality disorders, ADHD, bipolar disorder, postpartum depression, and concerns across all age groups.

I am a board-certified psychiatrist with experience in outpatient, inpatient, and telepsychiatry settings. I completed my residency at Larkin Community Hospital, caring for a diverse range of patients.

Occasionally, I may believe that additional therapy is also needed and ask that you bring a therapist into your care team to provide the best outcome. I treat all adults and specialize in depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety disorders, ADHD, and life changes. I pride myself in partnering with patients to create individualized treatment plans, and I am a great listener who spends time with my patients.

I believe psychiatry combines science and the art of medicine. I treat both adults and children/adolescents, with expertise in psychopharmacology, psychotherapy, addiction, geriatrics, and dual-diagnosis care. I am trained in TMS and ECT, am a Certified Suboxone Prescriber, and offer consultations and treatment through office-based or telemedicine visits. My approach is tailored to each patient's needs, integrating compassionate care with evidence-based treatment.

I acknowledge the many choices patients have in providers and strive to create a welcoming, collaborative, and supportive environment for everyone seeking care. Patients value my professionalism, patience, empathy, and attentive listening.

Before pursuing medicine, I explored a range of passions. After earning dual degrees in Biology and Biochemistry from the University of California, Riverside, I opened a popular Riverside eatery featured on The Food Channel. I later transitioned to the IT industry, earning a master's degree and certifications, before answering my true calling in medicine, graduating from Saint Matthews University School of Medicine.

I work with patients to meet the goals that matter to them. I believe that feeling heard and being understood are key factors in a successful treatment relationship. I have worked extensively with patients dealing with trauma from childhood abuse, assaults, combat, and accidents. I also have a lot of experience treating depression, anxiety disorders, bipolar disorder, ADHD, and personality disorders.

I have been working in telehealth since 2018. After completing my training, I worked in private practice and in various roles for the Department of Veterans Affairs. I most enjoy working in the clinic because of the long-term follow-up.

I enjoy my work and include psychotherapy in my appointments. I offer medication options to treat symptoms but also work with patients to examine behaviors and defenses that may be contributing to their problems. For patients who would benefit from more extensive psychotherapy, I may refer them to a therapist and work collaboratively with that therapist. I start off with a thorough evaluation to make a diagnosis, then work with patients to determine their treatment goals and develop a treatment plan to meet those goals.

FAQs

How does Talkiatry work?

Talkiatry is an online psychiatry practice designed to make high-quality mental health care more accessible. We’re 100% virtual, in-network with major insurance plans, and first appointments are typically available in days.

To get started, you’ll complete a quick online assessment to tell us what you’re looking for. We’ll match you with psychiatrists who are licensed in your state, in-network with your insurance, and experienced in treating your concerns. You’ll choose the clinician you’d like to work with.

Your first visit is an in-depth evaluation where your psychiatrist will listen, provide a diagnosis, and work with you to create a treatment plan tailored to your goals and preferences. You’ll continue seeing the same clinician over time, adjusting your plan as your needs evolve. Our team is always here to help with scheduling, insurance, and questions about your care.

Do you provide therapy?

Care at Talkiatry starts with psychiatry. If you already have a Talkiatry psychiatrist, they can refer you to one of our therapists if you’ve decided together that therapy is the right next step. However, you can’t see a Talkiatry therapist if you aren’t already seeing one of our psychiatrists.

What should I do if I’m having an emergency?

Talkiatry does not provide emergency care. If you or someone you know is in crisis, please visit your nearest emergency room, call 911, or call or text the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline at 988.

How much will my visit cost?

The majority of our visits cost patients $25 or less after insurance*, but your exact out-of-pocket cost depends on your plan. The best way to get a clear estimate is to contact your insurance provider directly. Here’s what to ask them:

  • Do I have mental health benefits that include outpatient psychiatry?
  • Is Talkiatry in-network for my plan?
  • What’s my copay or coinsurance for outpatient psychiatry visits?
  • Do I have a deductible? If so, how close am I to meeting it?
  • Do I have an out-of-pocket maximum? If so, how close am I to reaching it?
  • Are virtual or telehealth psychiatry visits covered the same as in-person care?
  • Is prior authorization required for outpatient psychiatry?
  • Can you provide a cost estimate for an in-network psychiatry visit using CPT code 99204?
  • Can you provide a cost estimate for an in-network psychotherapy visit using CPT code 90833?

*Includes all patient costs from 9/24-9/25: copayment, deductible, coinsurance, and $0 payments. Excludes missed appt. fees.  Your medical visit costs can vary depending on insurance coverage.

What if I don’t want to take medication?

Psychiatrists are medical doctors, and medication is often part of how they treat mental health conditions. At Talkiatry, your psychiatrist will start by listening and discussing your options with you. Medication is always your choice, but if it’s not something you’re open to considering, we may not be the best fit for ongoing care at this time.

How do I know if Talkiatry can help me?

Talkiatry provides virtual, in-network psychiatric care for people struggling with mild to moderate mental health issues. Here’s what we can help with:

  • Anxiety
  • ADHD (attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder)
  • Bipolar disorder
  • Child & adolescent care
  • Depression
  • OCD (obsessive-compulsive disorder)
  • Pregnancy & postpartum care
  • PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder)
  • Substance use disorder

Our goal is to connect you with the best possible care for you. At your first visit, your doctor will confirm whether Talkiatry is the right fit. If they recommend in-person or higher-level care, they’ll guide you to the appropriate resources.

What if my insurance changes from United Healthcare?

Insurance changes are common, and we’re here to help. Talkiatry is in-network with thousands of plans. If your insurance changes, reach out to a Care Coordinator to update your information and confirm your coverage by calling 833-351-TALK (8255).

Do I still take the assessment if I’m already diagnosed with ADHD?

Yes. Our online assessment is an important part of how we match you with the right psychiatrist. Your first visit will include a thorough evaluation so your psychiatrist can confirm your diagnosis and tailor your treatment plan to your current needs.
