I place a strong emphasis on establishing meaningful relationships with my patients and supporting them in achieving their individual life goals through effective treatment. I actively incorporate patient preferences into all treatment plans and integrate psychotherapy with medication management. I recognize the importance of educating patients about their care and dedicate time during each appointment to address any questions or concerns they may have.

In my clinical practice, I begin by facilitating an open dialogue with patients regarding their primary concerns for the appointment. During initial consultations, I conduct a comprehensive assessment, which includes gathering relevant medical, familial, and social histories that may influence the course of treatment. In subsequent appointments, I engage patients by inquiring about developments that have occurred since their last visit, as well as any issues related to medications or significant life events.

I am a board-certified psychiatrist with a specialization in the treatment of adults aged 18 to 65. I obtained my undergraduate degree in brain, cognition, and neuroscience from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. I subsequently attended medical school at Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and completed my residency training at JFK Hospital in Palm Beach, Florida.

I am a psychiatrist specializing in adult and maternal mental health. I develop personalized treatment plans to address anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, ADHD, OCD, PTSD, PMDD, and perinatal conditions. My goal is to help patients reconnect with their values and live balanced, fulfilled, and meaningful lives. I combine pharmacotherapy (medication) with psychotherapy to create individualized treatment plans. Therapy provides powerful tools to manage thoughts, emotions, and behaviors that support balanced brain chemistry, and research shows that medication helps restore this balance more quickly and effectively, especially in moderate to severe cases.

I liken medication for the brain to fertilizer for a garden. Imagine your mental health as a vibrant garden: when well-nourished, it can thrive with resilience, beauty, and balance. But when symptoms like depression, anxiety, ADHD, or mood instability take hold, they act like invasive weeds, crowding out healthy growth and making it hard to enjoy the space. Medication acts like fertilizer, strengthening the garden's natural systems so the healthy parts can reclaim their place and flourish. Just as some gardens need only seasonal care while others require more consistent tending, medication plans are personalized to support each person's long-term mental wellness. My approach emphasizes diagnostic clarity, medication management, patient education, and brief psychotherapy based on cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT). I believe patients should take an active role in understanding their diagnosis and treatment.

Your first appointment is a supportive, in-depth conversation to share your story, challenges, and goals. I will review your medical and psychiatric history and assess symptoms using a whole-person approach that considers biological, psychological, and social factors. Together, we will develop a personalized plan that may include lab work, medication, and therapy. Initial visits last 60 minutes for thorough evaluation; follow-ups typically last 20–30 minutes, focusing on medication management and brief therapy. If needed, I can refer you to in-house or community therapists for add-on therapy support. Throughout your care, I prioritize shared decision making to ensure you feel informed, empowered, and supported.

My passion for medicine began in childhood, inspired by curiosity about the mind and body. I earned an Honors Chemistry degree with magna cum laude and completed my medical training and psychiatry residency at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. With a strong scientific foundation, I understand the role of medications and embrace holistic healing through connection, gratitude, and spirituality. I have experience in diverse clinical settings and have received national awards including the AWP International Fellowship and ADMSEP Innovations Award. I am dedicated to advancing maternal mental health screening and treatment through clinical care and education.

I strive to create a supportive, collaborative space where patients can explore what's bringing them in and work together to determine the best path forward. Whether someone is new to mental health care or returning after some time away, I recognize that it's normal to feel a mix of emotions at the start. I take a thoughtful, personalized approach to treatment that may include medication, therapy recommendations, or simply creating space to talk. I value open communication and believe deeply in each person's capacity for meaningful change. Follow-up visits are 20 to 30 minutes, focusing on monitoring progress and adjusting care as needed. I also value collaborative care and often coordinate with therapists or refer patients to therapy when additional support can enhance outcomes. While telehealth offers flexibility and convenience, I am committed to building a meaningful connection with each patient. I do not provide emergency services between sessions but ensure patients can access the appropriate resources when needed.

I am an Adult Psychiatrist who completed my psychiatry training at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in Lubbock, Texas. I served my program as a chief resident, which helped to build my leadership and interpersonal skills, and I dedicated myself to leading my resident team and fostering a supportive learning environment. I received the award of excellence in psychiatry knowledge during my residency training. I also hold a Master's in Public Health from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center and am a Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society member. As someone early in my career, I bring fresh training and a strong commitment to transparency, lifelong learning, and evidence-informed care.

I work with patients to meet the goals that matter to them. I believe that feeling heard and being understood are key factors in a successful treatment relationship. I have worked extensively with patients dealing with trauma from childhood abuse, assaults, combat, and accidents. I also have a lot of experience treating depression, anxiety disorders, bipolar disorder, ADHD, and personality disorders.

I have been working in telehealth since 2018. After completing my training, I worked in private practice and in various roles for the Department of Veterans Affairs. I most enjoy working in the clinic because of the long-term follow-up.

I enjoy my work and include psychotherapy in my appointments. I offer medication options to treat symptoms but also work with patients to examine behaviors and defenses that may be contributing to their problems. For patients who would benefit from more extensive psychotherapy, I may refer them to a therapist and work collaboratively with that therapist. I start off with a thorough evaluation to make a diagnosis, then work with patients to determine their treatment goals and develop a treatment plan to meet those goals.

FAQs

How does Talkiatry work?

Talkiatry is an online psychiatry practice designed to make high-quality mental health care more accessible. We’re 100% virtual, in-network with major insurance plans, and first appointments are typically available in days.

To get started, you’ll complete a quick online assessment to tell us what you’re looking for. We’ll match you with psychiatrists who are licensed in your state, in-network with your insurance, and experienced in treating your concerns. You’ll choose the clinician you’d like to work with.

Your first visit is an in-depth evaluation where your psychiatrist will listen, provide a diagnosis, and work with you to create a treatment plan tailored to your goals and preferences. You’ll continue seeing the same clinician over time, adjusting your plan as your needs evolve. Our team is always here to help with scheduling, insurance, and questions about your care.

Do you provide therapy?

Care at Talkiatry starts with psychiatry. If you already have a Talkiatry psychiatrist, they can refer you to one of our therapists if you’ve decided together that therapy is the right next step. However, you can’t see a Talkiatry therapist if you aren’t already seeing one of our psychiatrists.

What should I do if I’m having an emergency?

Talkiatry does not provide emergency care. If you or someone you know is in crisis, please visit your nearest emergency room, call 911, or call or text the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline at 988.

How much will my visit cost?

The majority of our visits cost patients $25 or less after insurance*, but your exact out-of-pocket cost depends on your plan. The best way to get a clear estimate is to contact your insurance provider directly. Here’s what to ask them:

  • Do I have mental health benefits that include outpatient psychiatry?
  • Is Talkiatry in-network for my plan?
  • What’s my copay or coinsurance for outpatient psychiatry visits?
  • Do I have a deductible? If so, how close am I to meeting it?
  • Do I have an out-of-pocket maximum? If so, how close am I to reaching it?
  • Are virtual or telehealth psychiatry visits covered the same as in-person care?
  • Is prior authorization required for outpatient psychiatry?
  • Can you provide a cost estimate for an in-network psychiatry visit using CPT code 99204?
  • Can you provide a cost estimate for an in-network psychotherapy visit using CPT code 90833?

*Includes all patient costs from 9/24-9/25: copayment, deductible, coinsurance, and $0 payments. Excludes missed appt. fees.  Your medical visit costs can vary depending on insurance coverage.

What if I don’t want to take medication?

Psychiatrists are medical doctors, and medication is often part of how they treat mental health conditions. At Talkiatry, your psychiatrist will start by listening and discussing your options with you. Medication is always your choice, but if it’s not something you’re open to considering, we may not be the best fit for ongoing care at this time.

How do I know if Talkiatry can help me?

Talkiatry provides virtual, in-network psychiatric care for people struggling with mild to moderate mental health issues. Here’s what we can help with:

  • Anxiety
  • ADHD (attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder)
  • Bipolar disorder
  • Child & adolescent care
  • Depression
  • OCD (obsessive-compulsive disorder)
  • Pregnancy & postpartum care
  • PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder)
  • Substance use disorder

Our goal is to connect you with the best possible care for you. At your first visit, your doctor will confirm whether Talkiatry is the right fit. If they recommend in-person or higher-level care, they’ll guide you to the appropriate resources.

What if my insurance changes from Cigna?

Insurance changes are common, and we’re here to help. Talkiatry is in-network with thousands of plans. If your insurance changes, reach out to a Care Coordinator to update your information and confirm your coverage by calling 833-351-TALK (8255).

Do I still take the assessment if I’m already diagnosed with anxiety?

Yes. Our online assessment is an important part of how we match you with the right psychiatrist. Your first visit will include a thorough evaluation so your psychiatrist can confirm your diagnosis and tailor your treatment plan to your current needs.
