I specialize in medication management and brief psychotherapy.

I received my medical degree from Ross University School of Medicine and completed my residency at The Cleveland Clinic Akron General and Summa HealthSystem in my hometown of Akron, OH. Upon completion of residency, I relocated to Charlotte, NC to start my career as the Lead Psychiatrist at Novant Health Psychiatric Associates- Matthews. I have experience treating various patient populations. My areas of focus have been perinatal and postpartum depression and anxiety, and I have also worked with adults with co-occurring substance use disorders. Special interests include women's health and minority mental health disparities.

I am a board-certified psychiatrist who practices general adult psychiatry, with a special interest in managing depression, anxiety, OCD, and ADHD. I place special emphasis on a triple-pronged approach to treating conditions, using medication, therapy, and lifestyle guidance. I enjoy building a therapeutic relationship with my patients, and I value longer-term continuity of care when appropriate. I attended Calvin College for my Bachelor's Degree and Michigan State University College of Human Medicine for my Medical Degree. I then completed my Residency in Psychiatry at Ohio State University. After spending six months serving the prison population, I am back to doing what I find most rewarding, which is one-on-one outpatient psychiatry.

Prior to joining Talkiatry, I worked in a residential treatment center for teenagers with eating disorders, gaining significant experience with challenging patients and their families.

My practice focuses on child and adolescent medication management. I typically offer this in conjunction with supportive or emotionally focused therapy in 30-minute follow-up visits. Occasionally, however, I may believe that additional therapy is needed and will ask that you bring a therapist into your care team to provide the best outcome. I provide treatment plans that include holistic recommendations for diet, exercise, and educational and psychosocial/spiritual aspects of care. I am known for listening to and respecting patients' stories and walking them on a path of recovery and growth.

I am a staff psychiatrist at Talkiatry and am double board certified in child and adolescent psychiatry and adult psychiatry. I received my medical degree from the Boonshoft School of Medicine at Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio, and my Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Therapy from The Ohio State University. Prior to attending medical school, I practiced for 14 years in physical therapy with a specialization in children with developmental and neurological disabilities. I have held multiple positions in hospital and outpatient psychiatry, including community mental health, developmental and foster care settings, and medical director positions. I have also served as clinical faculty for both the Wright State Department of Psychiatry and the University of Cincinnati School of Medicine. I have a passion for the education of medical students, residents, and patients.

I have an approachable style aimed at providing a comprehensive evaluation for all age ranges and am comfortable managing various levels of diagnostic complexities. I provide supportive psychotherapy while using psychodynamic therapy skills to clarify my patients' constellation of symptoms, identify unifying themes, and provide thorough psychoeducation throughout the process to drive positive outcomes. I integrate psychodynamic medication management approaches and am adept at family therapy interventions.

I am a Staff Psychiatrist at Talkiatry. After completing residency in 2016 at the Ponce Medical School Psychiatry Residency in Puerto Rico, I moved to North Carolina to complete a subspecialty in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Duke University Health System. There, I transitioned into an assistant professor position, focused on structuring pediatric emergency psychiatric services, and helped support the consult and liaison pediatric service. My experience has included working as an integrated care child psychiatrist within outpatient clinics at Duke University Health System, and I trained and worked as a staff psychiatrist at the Inpatient State Facility in North Carolina. I also served in the Dayton Children's Hospital outpatient clinics in Dayton, Ohio, the Appalachian Health System outpatient clinics in Linville, North Carolina, and more recently have been serving the Child and Adolescent inpatient population in Bangor, Maine.

My practice focuses on medication management, which I typically offer in conjunction with supportive therapy in 30-minute follow-up visits. I also have advanced training in psychopharmacology, earned with distinction. I received my medical degree from the University of Toledo, College of Medicine and Life Sciences, where I was given the outstanding medical student award by the Department of Head and Neck Surgery. I completed my internship with the Department of Family Medicine and my residency with the Department of Psychiatry, both at the University of Toledo, College of Medicine and Life Sciences.

Throughout my career, I have served as the Medical Director of two Community Mental Health Centers and as the Corporate Medical Director for a company providing neuropsychiatric and general psychiatric care to patients residing in nursing facilities. I have also been a preceptor for numerous universities and have trained advanced practice providers in psychiatry.

I approach medication management through the lens of compassionate listening and psychotherapy, seeking to reduce the stigma of mental illness and put patients at ease during their visits. In addition to screening for common conditions such as bipolar disorder, anxiety, and depression in all patients, I also emphasize the importance of screening for conditions that can manifest in childhood (such as ADHD, Autism) as well as first-episode psychosis in young adults. In addition to medication adjustments, I emphasize the importance of optimizing additional tools such as therapy while making appropriate lifestyle changes. During every follow-up visit, I take care to ensure that the current treatment is not hindering my patient's progress in any way.
