I am an adult psychiatrist with a holistic approach to treatment, taking into account the entire person, and I emphasize the importance of the therapeutic bond to help people reduce suffering and achieve their goals. I am a member of the Gold Humanism Honor Society. My practice focuses on a mix of medication management, offered in conjunction with supportive therapy in 30-minute follow-up visits, and insight-oriented psychotherapy offered in weekly 45-minute visits. I work with people struggling with ADHD, depression, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive and related disorders, and difficulties with self-esteem and relationships. Occasionally I may believe that additional therapy is warranted and recommend a separate therapist to provide the best outcome.

I received my medical degree from the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine and completed my residency training at New York University. During training, I gained experience treating patients with various psychiatric illnesses in several different clinics and hospital-based settings. I worked with experts in the field of depression and provided consultations for patients considering transcranial magnetic stimulation. I also published a review article on long-term injectable medications for psychosis.

I have maintained an interest in teaching and remain connected to the psychiatry department at NYU. I have supervised and taught junior residents and medical students. Additionally, I am interested in global health and disparities in access to care and have traveled to Ghana to teach medical students rotating through psychiatry at the university there.

I am an adult psychiatrist who completed my training at George Washington University and earned my medical degree from the University of Missouri–Kansas City. I am deeply passionate about global mental health and am dedicated to educating my community.

I am a Board-Certified Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner dedicated to breaking down mental health stigma and expanding access to compassionate, quality care. With over 20 years of nurse practitioner experience, I have supported patients and families through life's emotional and physical challenges across outpatient, inpatient, and telepsychiatry settings. I am passionate about creating a safe, empowering space where individuals feel seen, heard, and valued on their mental health journey.

I help patients become the best, healthiest version of themselves, both mentally and emotionally. I value open communication, mutual respect, and collaborative decision-making. My treatment plans include medication management, healthy coping strategies, and tools to build self-awareness and resilience. I create a judgment-free environment where every voice matters.

I begin by building trust through a compassionate, in-depth initial interview. Together with each patient, I develop a personalized treatment plan that blends medication management with lifestyle recommendations tailored to individual goals and values. I am an integrative psychiatrist with a warm, structured, and research-driven approach that combines medication when needed with integrative tools such as CBT, lifestyle changes, a "24-hour approach", and a bio-psycho-social-spiritual lens. I treat depression, bipolar, anxiety, ADHD, PTSD, substance use, and psychotic-spectrum disorders with a holistic, results-driven approach. I work with individuals who feel stuck — functioning on the outside but "not like myself" inside — and focus on root causes to help them gain clarity, momentum, and purpose to function at their highest level across home, career, and life.

I begin with a 360-degree assessment exploring emotional patterns, routine, physical health, neurobiology, and values. My 24-hour optimization model supports intentional living, clarity, and structure. I fine-tune medications and augment with integrative tools to enhance mood, resilience, and wellbeing.

I hold an MPH and completed a 1-year fellowship through Psychiatry Redefined, as well as intensive inpatient and outpatient training. I am a Boston University School of Medicine graduate and former Chief Resident at FAU. My care is shaped by years in psychiatry and over a decade of coaching future physicians, researchers, and life coaches to reach their highest academic and career potential.

I take a holistic approach to mental healthcare, combining medication management, psychotherapy, and lifestyle modifications to help my patients achieve a quality of life that allows them to pursue their goals. I see the position of the psychiatrist as helping to educate and guide patients, allowing them to take an active role in their own recovery. I believe diversity is a strength and embrace providing high quality services that affirm the dignity, worth, and value of all individuals, including the LGBTQ+ community. I take an evidence-based approach in my treatment of individuals suffering with depression, anxiety, trauma, difficulty focusing and concentrating, sleep issues, and interpersonal problems. I utilize insight-oriented care, believing that gaining understanding of a person's feelings, thoughts, and actions will provide them the knowledge needed to make the positive change they desire. Therapy may be a key part of a person's treatment, and if greater frequency is needed outside of our sessions, I will refer and collaborate with a psychotherapist to help maximize a patient's success.

I am double board-certified in adult and consultation liaison psychiatry. My fellowship training helped me gain greater insight into the interface between medicine and mental healthcare. I have been practicing for seven years and have worked closely with individuals with co-occurring chronic medical issues, specifically organ transplantation.

I bring empathy, attentiveness, and a non-judgmental approach to every patient interaction. I am deeply committed to ensuring patients feel heard, respected, and understood. Patients can expect me to be thorough and dedicated, consistently advocating for their overall wellness throughout the course of treatment. Understanding that beginning mental health care can be difficult, I start with friendly, casual questions to build rapport, asking about patients' background, interests, and current life situation. I then review their medical and psychiatric history before exploring current symptoms and stressors. Together, the patient and I collaborate to create a personalized treatment plan.

I earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln in 2011 and completed my medical degree at the University of Nebraska College of Medicine in 2017. I completed my residency in psychiatry at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, Virginia, in 2021, where I was selected as Chief Resident. I have extensive experience in both outpatient and deployed settings, having completed two operational tours with the U.S. Navy. During these tours, I served in Embedded Mental Health Clinics and aboard deployed ships, working directly with Sailors.

I strive to create a safe, judgment-free space where patients can share their experiences openly. I encourage honest dialogue so patients feel supported, understood, and fully involved in every decision. My approach emphasizes evidence-based medication management to reduce symptoms and improve functioning, while maintaining flexibility to adapt strategies as needs and goals evolve.

I begin with a collaborative exploration of symptoms, personal history, and goals to establish a clear treatment direction. I tailor care to each individual, balancing medication management with supportive therapy when appropriate. Through shared decision-making, I ensure patients remain active participants in their treatment. By closely monitoring progress and adjusting as needed, I provide care that is both responsive and effective.

I am a board-certified psychiatrist with experience in both outpatient and inpatient settings. I earned my medical degree from Meharry Medical College and completed my psychiatry residency and child & adolescent psychiatry fellowship at the University of Florida College of Medicine – Jacksonville. I create a welcoming, respectful space where patients feel safe to communicate openly. I practice active listening and value patient input when setting therapy goals. My approach is holistic, treating the whole person, and I encourage collaboration, helping patients feel seen, heard, and empowered in their care. I review a patient's history before each session and begin with clear introductions and goal setting. I invite open discussion of concerns and tailor treatment plans with patient input. I often incorporate CBT, motivational interviewing, and solution-focused therapy into care, promoting growth through supportive, personalized strategies.

My nursing journey began over 30 years ago in a state psychiatric hospital in Goldsboro, NC, inspired by the poised nurse I admired at church as a child. I approach medication management with an emphasis on shared decision-making within safe, effective options, thorough counseling about what to expect in treatment, and giving attention to the concurrent use of non-medication modalities of treatment alongside optimizing medication. I am accustomed to working with people who have more than one diagnosis. I am skilled and experienced in de-prescribing (methodically streamlining the number of medications being taken) when needed. Patients can see me for medication management, therapy, or both.

I am board certified in Adult Psychiatry. I graduated from the University of Illinois College of Medicine in Chicago in 2004. I was selected for the Health Professions Scholarship Program and completed my residency in 2008 at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth in Virginia, where I was chief resident. Following residency, I deployed to Kuwait as a medical officer. I have taught and supervised residents at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. I left active duty in the Navy as a Lieutenant Commander. After becoming a civilian, I went into solo practice, then joined Potomac Behavioral Solutions in 2014, where I served as medical director. I am a past president of the Virginia Psychoanalytic Society. I also lecture advanced mental health professionals for Lingyu International Psychology Centre based in Toronto.

I believe in client-centered care, where clients get a say in their treatment in order to help make them feel their best. I truly believe that therapy is a crucial part of successfully treating any mental health diagnosis, in combination with medication management when warranted. I enjoy treating a variety of mental health diagnoses including depression, anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder, mood disorders such as bipolar disorder, and various psychotic disorders. FAQs

How does Talkiatry work?

Talkiatry is an online psychiatry practice designed to make high-quality mental health care more accessible. We’re 100% virtual, in-network with major insurance plans, and first appointments are typically available in days.

To get started, you’ll complete a quick online assessment to tell us what you’re looking for. We’ll match you with psychiatrists who are licensed in your state, in-network with your insurance, and experienced in treating your concerns. You’ll choose the clinician you’d like to work with.

Your first visit is an in-depth evaluation where your psychiatrist will listen, provide a diagnosis, and work with you to create a treatment plan tailored to your goals and preferences. You’ll continue seeing the same clinician over time, adjusting your plan as your needs evolve. Our team is always here to help with scheduling, insurance, and questions about your care.

Do you provide therapy?

Care at Talkiatry starts with psychiatry. If you already have a Talkiatry psychiatrist, they can refer you to one of our therapists if you’ve decided together that therapy is the right next step. However, you can’t see a Talkiatry therapist if you aren’t already seeing one of our psychiatrists.

What should I do if I’m having an emergency?

Talkiatry does not provide emergency care. If you or someone you know is in crisis, please visit your nearest emergency room, call 911, or call or text the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline at 988.

How much will my visit cost?

The majority of our visits cost patients $25 or less after insurance*, but your exact out-of-pocket cost depends on your plan. The best way to get a clear estimate is to contact your insurance provider directly. Here’s what to ask them:

  • Do I have mental health benefits that include outpatient psychiatry?
  • Is Talkiatry in-network for my plan?
  • What’s my copay or coinsurance for outpatient psychiatry visits?
  • Do I have a deductible? If so, how close am I to meeting it?
  • Do I have an out-of-pocket maximum? If so, how close am I to reaching it?
  • Are virtual or telehealth psychiatry visits covered the same as in-person care?
  • Is prior authorization required for outpatient psychiatry?
  • Can you provide a cost estimate for an in-network psychiatry visit using CPT code 99204?
  • Can you provide a cost estimate for an in-network psychotherapy visit using CPT code 90833?

*Includes all patient costs from 9/24-9/25: copayment, deductible, coinsurance, and $0 payments. Excludes missed appt. fees.  Your medical visit costs can vary depending on insurance coverage.

What if I don’t want to take medication?

Psychiatrists are medical doctors, and medication is often part of how they treat mental health conditions. At Talkiatry, your psychiatrist will start by listening and discussing your options with you. Medication is always your choice, but if it’s not something you’re open to considering, we may not be the best fit for ongoing care at this time.

How do I know if Talkiatry can help me?

Talkiatry provides virtual, in-network psychiatric care for people struggling with mild to moderate mental health issues. Here’s what we can help with:

  • Anxiety
  • ADHD (attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder)
  • Bipolar disorder
  • Child & adolescent care
  • Depression
  • OCD (obsessive-compulsive disorder)
  • Pregnancy & postpartum care
  • PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder)
  • Substance use disorder

Our goal is to connect you with the best possible care for you. At your first visit, your doctor will confirm whether Talkiatry is the right fit. If they recommend in-person or higher-level care, they’ll guide you to the appropriate resources.

What if my insurance changes from Blue Cross Blue Shield?

Insurance changes are common, and we’re here to help. Talkiatry is in-network with thousands of plans. If your insurance changes, reach out to a Care Coordinator to update your information and confirm your coverage by calling 833-351-TALK (8255).

Do I still take the assessment if I’m already diagnosed with depression?

Yes. Our online assessment is an important part of how we match you with the right psychiatrist. Your first visit will include a thorough evaluation so your psychiatrist can confirm your diagnosis and tailor your treatment plan to your current needs.
