I believe in a collaborative approach to treatment, emphasizing active listening, compassion, and respect. I prioritize using the lowest effective dose of medication to meet treatment goals while supporting the patient's overall well-being.

I am a board-certified psychiatrist with over 26 years of experience treating adults in both inpatient and outpatient settings. I earned my medical degree from Oregon Health Sciences University and completed my residency at the University of Texas at San Antonio. I provide a therapeutic medication management visit, which incorporates therapeutic techniques tailored to the individual patient's needs while adjusting medication doses. My goal is to help patients manage their symptoms while working towards, over time, uncovering the root causes. This comprehensive process helps to empower my patients and provides hope and acceptance of their psychiatric challenges. If indicated, I may believe that additional therapy is also needed and recommend that you bring a therapist into your care team to provide the best outcome.

I am board certified in Adult Psychiatry and have completed a fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. I attended medical school at Drexel University College of Medicine and completed my training at Mount Sinai School of Medicine, followed by Tulane University School of Medicine, where I was a chief resident. I have worked in hospital systems, private practice, and most recently telemedicine.

When not practicing, I enjoy all things water, cooking, and spending time with my daughter and dog.

My practice is grounded in promoting well-being through a holistic lens that considers the whole person. I prioritize creating a collaborative relationship with every patient, tailoring treatment to meet the unique needs and goals of each individual. I believe in the importance of open communication, mutual trust, and shared decision-making as the foundation for effective care. Patients can expect a supportive and respectful environment where their experiences are valued, and treatment is approached as a partnership.

In my work, I begin by exploring each patient's personal experiences and symptoms in depth, with the goal of understanding the whole picture of their health. I develop holistic treatment plans that integrate both medical and lifestyle considerations to support long-term wellness, and I strive to ensure that care is not only effective but also compassionate and individualized.

I earned my medical degree at the University of Washington School of Medicine and bring over 20 years of experience treating patients with chronic illnesses. In addition to my medical training, I hold a master's degree in Adult Fitness and Cardiac Rehabilitation, which informs my focus on the connection between physical and mental health.

My style is warm, collaborative, and grounded in respect for each patient's individuality. I combine evidence-based and personalized treatments that may include medication management, psychotherapy (ACT, DBT, CBT, psychodynamic, and supportive modalities), and holistic wellness approaches. I strive to create a safe, affirming space where patients can explore and grow in ways aligned with their values. I have a special interest in serving LGBTQIA+, kink/sex-positive, and non-monogamous communities.

In the initial sessions, I conduct a comprehensive assessment of the patient's goals, values, history, and concerns. Together, we develop a tailored treatment plan that reflects the patient's unique needs, emphasizing shared decision-making and ongoing collaboration.

I earned my medical degree from the University of Maryland School of Medicine and completed residency in psychiatry at the University of Washington, where I served as Outpatient Chief Resident and completed an area of distinction in psychotherapy. I also hold a Master of Science in Nutrition and Human Performance from Logan University and am a 500-hour Registered Yoga Teacher trained in Rishikesh, India. My practice focuses on child and adolescent medication management. I typically offer this in conjunction with supportive or emotionally focused therapy in 30-minute follow-up visits. Occasionally, however, I may believe that additional therapy is needed and will ask that you bring a therapist into your care team to provide the best outcome. I provide treatment plans that include holistic recommendations for diet, exercise, and educational and psychosocial/spiritual aspects of care. I am known for listening to and respecting patients' stories and walking them on a path of recovery and growth.

I am a staff psychiatrist at Talkiatry and am double board certified in child and adolescent psychiatry and adult psychiatry. I received my medical degree from the Boonshoft School of Medicine at Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio, and my Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Therapy from The Ohio State University. Prior to attending medical school, I practiced for 14 years in physical therapy with a specialization in children with developmental and neurological disabilities. I have held multiple positions in hospital and outpatient psychiatry, including community mental health, developmental and foster care settings, and medical director positions. I have also served as clinical faculty for both the Wright State Department of Psychiatry and the University of Cincinnati School of Medicine. I have a passion for the education of medical students, residents, and patients.

My approach is to treat primarily through psychotherapy and behavioral change, with medication management serving as an important (and often essential) adjuvant to optimizing mental health. My specialty is providing behaviorally oriented trauma-informed care, and I am experienced in managing a multitude of mental health conditions. I tend to have a very casual engagement style, so expect a frank but open conversation during our first meetings. Following that initial screening, anticipate a candid discussion about my approach to your condition and an initial treatment plan. Please feel free to bring up any questions or concerns at any time during this process, and note-taking is highly encouraged!

I am a board-certified psychiatrist and completed my training at the University of Washington, where I received additional certifications in Psychotherapy and Community Psychiatry. Prior to joining Talkiatry, I spent years serving the mental health needs of underserved communities as well as our Veteran population.

I focus on using my extensive medication knowledge to help treat an array of psychiatric disorders. Beyond medication management, I also work on a holistic approach to psychiatry, including working with the patient to get the proper therapy services when clinically indicated. During the initial interview, a thorough assessment is done, including any medical and psychiatric history, medications you may be currently taking, and supplements before any medication is dispensed. My interests include depression, anxiety, ADHD, obsessive compulsive and related disorders, transgender patients on hormone therapies and post-surgical transition. I also have an extensive interest in medical illnesses with a psychiatric component, such as cancer patients, transplant, HIV, and many others alike.

I am a board-certified Staff Psychiatrist at Talkiatry. I completed my residency at Bergen New Bridge Medical Center in Paramus, New Jersey, where I excelled in leadership and knowledge, becoming Chief Resident in just my third year at the busiest outpatient behavioral health clinic in New Jersey. Upon completion of my third year, I went on to become Chief Academic Resident of my program, which allowed me to impart my knowledge of psychiatry to younger psychiatrists in training. After completing my residency in General Psychiatry, I completed a fellowship in the prestigious Mount Sinai Health System in New York City, based primarily out of the Beth Israel location. During this fellowship I studied Consultation-liaison psychiatry, also known as psychosomatic medicine, an exciting subspecialty of psychiatry that focuses on the care of patients with comorbid psychiatric and general medical conditions. Consultation-liaison psychiatry deals with the understanding and advancement of medical science, education, and the provision of healthcare for medically ill and complex patients.

FAQs

How does Talkiatry work?

Talkiatry is an online psychiatry practice designed to make high-quality mental health care more accessible. We’re 100% virtual, in-network with major insurance plans, and first appointments are typically available in days.

To get started, you’ll complete a quick online assessment to tell us what you’re looking for. We’ll match you with psychiatrists who are licensed in your state, in-network with your insurance, and experienced in treating your concerns. You’ll choose the clinician you’d like to work with.

Your first visit is an in-depth evaluation where your psychiatrist will listen, provide a diagnosis, and work with you to create a treatment plan tailored to your goals and preferences. You’ll continue seeing the same clinician over time, adjusting your plan as your needs evolve. Our team is always here to help with scheduling, insurance, and questions about your care.

Do you provide therapy?

Care at Talkiatry starts with psychiatry. If you already have a Talkiatry psychiatrist, they can refer you to one of our therapists if you’ve decided together that therapy is the right next step. However, you can’t see a Talkiatry therapist if you aren’t already seeing one of our psychiatrists.

What should I do if I’m having an emergency?

Talkiatry does not provide emergency care. If you or someone you know is in crisis, please visit your nearest emergency room, call 911, or call or text the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline at 988.

How much will my visit cost?

The majority of our visits cost patients $25 or less after insurance*, but your exact out-of-pocket cost depends on your plan. The best way to get a clear estimate is to contact your insurance provider directly. Here’s what to ask them:

  • Do I have mental health benefits that include outpatient psychiatry?
  • Is Talkiatry in-network for my plan?
  • What’s my copay or coinsurance for outpatient psychiatry visits?
  • Do I have a deductible? If so, how close am I to meeting it?
  • Do I have an out-of-pocket maximum? If so, how close am I to reaching it?
  • Are virtual or telehealth psychiatry visits covered the same as in-person care?
  • Is prior authorization required for outpatient psychiatry?
  • Can you provide a cost estimate for an in-network psychiatry visit using CPT code 99204?
  • Can you provide a cost estimate for an in-network psychotherapy visit using CPT code 90833?

*Includes all patient costs from 9/24-9/25: copayment, deductible, coinsurance, and $0 payments. Excludes missed appt. fees.  Your medical visit costs can vary depending on insurance coverage.

What if I don’t want to take medication?

Psychiatrists are medical doctors, and medication is often part of how they treat mental health conditions. At Talkiatry, your psychiatrist will start by listening and discussing your options with you. Medication is always your choice, but if it’s not something you’re open to considering, we may not be the best fit for ongoing care at this time.

How do I know if Talkiatry can help me?

Talkiatry provides virtual, in-network psychiatric care for people struggling with mild to moderate mental health issues. Here’s what we can help with:

  • Anxiety
  • ADHD (attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder)
  • Bipolar disorder
  • Child & adolescent care
  • Depression
  • OCD (obsessive-compulsive disorder)
  • Pregnancy & postpartum care
  • PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder)
  • Substance use disorder

Our goal is to connect you with the best possible care for you. At your first visit, your doctor will confirm whether Talkiatry is the right fit. If they recommend in-person or higher-level care, they’ll guide you to the appropriate resources.

What if my insurance changes from United Healthcare?

Insurance changes are common, and we’re here to help. Talkiatry is in-network with thousands of plans. If your insurance changes, reach out to a Care Coordinator to update your information and confirm your coverage by calling 833-351-TALK (8255).

Do I still take the assessment if I’m already diagnosed with anxiety?

Yes. Our online assessment is an important part of how we match you with the right psychiatrist. Your first visit will include a thorough evaluation so your psychiatrist can confirm your diagnosis and tailor your treatment plan to your current needs.
