Dr. Mitchell Laski, MD
I bring empathy, attentiveness, and a non-judgmental approach to every patient interaction. I am deeply committed to ensuring patients feel heard, respected, and understood. Patients can expect me to be thorough and dedicated, consistently advocating for their overall wellness throughout the course of treatment. Understanding that beginning mental health care can be difficult, I start with friendly, casual questions to build rapport, asking about patients' background, interests, and current life situation. I then review their medical and psychiatric history before exploring current symptoms and stressors. Together, the patient and I collaborate to create a personalized treatment plan.
I earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln in 2011 and completed my medical degree at the University of Nebraska College of Medicine in 2017. I completed my residency in psychiatry at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, Virginia, in 2021, where I was selected as Chief Resident. I have extensive experience in both outpatient and deployed settings, having completed two operational tours with the U.S. Navy. During these tours, I served in Embedded Mental Health Clinics and aboard deployed ships, working directly with Sailors.

Dr. Mohammed Basith, MD
I am a board-certified psychiatrist in the field of general adult psychiatry. My approach to clinical practice is rooted in fostering a safe atmosphere in which to explore biological and psychosocial factors that affect mental health. I view medication as a tool that patients can use while also engaging in psychotherapy and making lifestyle changes to optimize their mental health. I encourage patients to be actively involved in their healthcare decisions. Although I have an integrative psychotherapy style, I may occasionally believe additional therapy is needed and ask that you bring a therapist into your care team to provide the best outcome. I offer a mix of pharmacotherapy in conjunction with psychotherapy in 30-minute sessions, utilizing pharmacotherapy along with facets of cognitive behavioral therapy, psychodynamic psychotherapy, and supportive therapy as needed. I have experience treating patients with a wide range of psychiatric concerns including various anxiety disorders, depression, bipolar spectrum disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and substance use disorders.
I received my medical degree at Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and went on to complete a general psychiatry residency training at Penn State College of Medicine in Hershey, Pennsylvania. Since completing my training, I have been working with a wide variety of adults, including as a staff psychiatrist at Georgetown University's Counseling and Psychiatric Service.

Dr. Mona Ismail, MD
I am passionate about integrative medicine, which combines evidence-based alternative therapies with conventional treatments to optimize outcomes. My approach focuses on promoting overall wellness, keeping both the body and mind in harmony. During the diagnostic evaluation, I will review your medical history and past treatments to develop a comprehensive, personalized treatment plan that prioritizes your overall wellness. In addition to medication management, I incorporate supportive, cognitive, or psychodynamic psychotherapy during follow-up visits, as time allows. When appropriate, I may also recommend referrals to specialized psychotherapists to address your individual needs as part of a holistic treatment approach.
I am double board-certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in both Adult Psychiatry and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. I earned my medical degree from Cairo University, where I also completed my neurology residency at Cairo University Hospitals. My career includes multiple leadership roles, notably serving as Chief of the Child and Adolescent Partial Hospital Programs (PHP) at Rutgers University in Newark, NJ, where I provided direct care to young patients. I have also held Medical Director positions across various clinical settings, including child and adolescent inpatient units, outpatient programs, and intensive outpatient services for both adolescents and adults with mental health and co-occurring substance use disorders. As an active educator, I have served as a teaching faculty member, delivering lectures and providing supervision and evaluations for medical residents and child and adolescent psychiatry fellows, and I have served as a principal investigator on multiple studies. Throughout my career in leadership and teaching, I maintained an integrative private practice in New Jersey, serving residents of the NJ and NY metropolitan areas before relocating to North Carolina.

My expertise includes trauma, anxiety, mood disorders, and adult ADHD, and I provide culturally responsive, affirming care grounded in psychodynamic and cognitive-behavioral principles.
I begin with a comprehensive evaluation to understand each patient's symptoms within their life context. Treatment plans are individualized, and follow-ups focus on monitoring progress, refining goals, and addressing barriers to improvement.

Dr. Nina Govalla, MD
I value professionalism, honesty, and shared decision-making, using these principles to guide my evidence-based approach to care. My process is rooted in understanding each patient as a whole person, not just a diagnosis. I consider a patient's history, environment, relationships, and personal journey to provide practical, individualized support that empowers them to reach their goals.
I am an adult psychiatrist who completed my training at George Washington University and earned my medical degree from the University of Missouri–Kansas City. I am deeply passionate about global mental health and am dedicated to educating my community.

My practice focuses on medication management in addition to supportive and cognitive-behavioral therapy in 30-minute follow-up visits. I am a strong advocate of multiple treatment modalities and, in certain situations, may suggest that therapy and/or regular physical exercise be included in your treatment plan to provide the best outcome.
I received my B.S. in Physics from the United States Naval Academy. After serving as an Intelligence Officer in the Navy for eight years, I transitioned to medicine and earned my medical degree from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, MD. Dr. Rachel Meyen, MD
I am a Harvard trained, board certified adult psychiatrist who specializes in creating individually tailored treatment plans using high quality evidence and up-to-date clinical guidelines. I specialize in depression, anxiety, PTSD, bipolar disorder, OCD, ADHD, and many other mental health disorders.
When meeting with a patient for the first time, I carefully review current symptoms, past history, and patient values and preferences, and I work with the patient to develop individual treatment goals. I value developing a trusting relationship with each patient and want each patient to feel heard and valued.
I graduated from the University of Missouri School of Medicine and completed my psychiatry residency training at Harvard South Shore. I completed a fellowship in geriatric psychiatry through Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, MA. I am board certified in both adult and geriatric psychiatry. Dr. Richard Mullin, MD
I emphasize the importance of truly listening, so patients feel seen and heard. I work collaboratively with my patients to identify their main concerns and to build a treatment plan that feels right for them. I believe treatment should be a shared process in which the patient is empowered and supported in their mental health journey. Taking a "less is more" approach to medication, I focus on minimizing prescriptions while still addressing all of a patient's needs. My goal is to help patients eventually rely more on therapeutic skills than medication. I view treatment as a partnership, balancing my expertise in psychiatry with each patient's lived experience.
I bring over a decade of experience in outpatient psychiatric care, with prior roles providing treatment to juveniles in detention and adults in jail and prison systems across West Virginia. I completed my medical degree at the Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine at Marshall University and trained in psychiatry and child and adolescent psychiatry at West Virginia University.

Richard Scheuerle III, MD
Dr. Richard Scheuerle earned his bachelor's degree from Auburn University, his medical degree from the University of South Florida, and completed his psychiatry residency at Naval Medical Center San Diego. He then served four years as an active-duty Navy psychiatrist, including deployment to a combat theater. He has cared for active-duty service members, veterans, immigrants, and LGBTQIA+ individuals, with extensive experience treating sexual trauma, religious trauma, combat trauma, and narcissistic abuse.
Dr. Scheuerle creates a welcoming space for those who have felt misunderstood or overlooked. He believes patients should set the pace for sharing and values natural conversation as a path to understanding. His approach focuses on bringing unconscious patterns into awareness to support meaningful, lasting change.
Dr. Scheuerle begins by exploring each patient's reasons for seeking care in a warm, conversational setting rather than a rigid question-and-answer format. Both initial visits and follow-ups are designed to provide the time, space, and support patients need to feel comfortable discussing their concerns.

Dr. Richard Shehane, MD
I focus on two main approaches to mental health treatment: medication management and psychotherapy. Appointments focus on a mix of interactions aimed at tailoring each patient's specific medication needs as well as promoting mental health wellness through different types of evidence-based therapy techniques including mindfulness, CBT, CPT, and psychodynamic psychotherapy. I work together with patients to develop a plan that fits each patient's individual needs. Initial appointments focus on identifying and treating primary concerns, and then later appointments center on building upon the therapeutic relationship to increase self-awareness, promote emotional insight, and secure lasting positive mental health changes.
I am a board-certified psychiatrist that specializes in the treatment of depression, anxiety, PTSD, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, personality disorders, and ADHD. I have also worked extensively with patients that have experienced sexual trauma in their past and patients struggling with substance and alcohol use addictions. I completed medical school at the University of Nevada School of Medicine and then went on to complete psychiatry residency training at Naval Medical Center San Diego.

Dr. Riddhi Kothari, DO
My treatment approach begins with establishing a good therapeutic rapport with my patients and listening to them so that they feel heard. I like to spend time providing psychoeducation on medications when discussing the treatment plan. My practice focuses on medication management primarily, but may incorporate supportive psychotherapy during medication visits. I may recommend additional psychotherapy if I feel a patient may benefit from this. My current practice does not include the use of any controlled substance medications, such as stimulants, benzodiazepines, and certain sleep aids.

What a psychiatrist in Virginia can help with
A psychiatrist can evaluate and treat a wide range of mental health conditions. Talkiatry psychiatrists work with patients on anxiety, depression, and ADHD, along with bipolar disorder, OCD, PTSD, and other concerns.
Psychiatrists are medical doctors, so they can diagnose conditions and prescribe and manage medication when it is the right fit. Medication is one possible part of a treatment plan, not the automatic result of a visit. Depending on your needs, therapy may also be part of your care, and your psychiatrist will talk through the options with you.
