Biography

I provide psychotherapy to adults experiencing anxiety disorders, trauma, depressive disorders, and relationship difficulties. I have a special clinical interest in social anxiety disorder and assertiveness training, and I work with individuals who feel stuck in avoidance patterns, self-doubt, or interpersonal stress, helping them address both current symptoms and longstanding emotional patterns impacting daily life. I am trained in EMDR and Accelerated Resolution Therapy for trauma treatment and utilize evidence-based approaches including CBT. I begin with a comprehensive assessment and collaborative goal-setting process, then develop individualized treatment plans, integrating cognitive restructuring, behavioral strategies, exposure-based work, and trauma processing as indicated, emphasizing practical tools, emotional clarity, and lasting improvement.

I earned a Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology from the University of Hartford in 2010 and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Simpson University in 2007. I have practiced in outpatient, private practice, in-home family therapy, and residential settings, and I have worked with adults, adolescents, and families in community mental health and group practice environments, supporting diverse individuals across a wide range of needs.

My style is warm, collaborative, and direct, balancing validation with gentle challenge when patterns are no longer serving the client. I prioritize transparency, autonomy, and pacing therapy in a way that feels safe, respectful, and empowering. I am trained in trauma-informed, evidence-based approaches emphasizing attachment, nervous system regulation, emotional safety, and sustainable coping skills. I understand how overwhelming it can feel to navigate mental health, medical, or recovery systems that often move faster than emotions can process.

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with experience across inpatient acute psychiatric settings, inpatient substance use and addiction recovery, and outpatient care. My clinical background includes supporting individuals experiencing acute mental health crises, co-occurring disorders, and complex psychosocial stressors. I also bring firsthand experience advocating for medically complex children and their families, which informs a deep understanding of caregiver stress, medical trauma, and systems fatigue. My approach is grounded and shaped by work in high-acuity environments.

I begin by taking time to understand each client's story, goals, strengths, and current challenges. Early sessions focus on building trust, stabilizing where needed, and identifying patterns shaped by past experiences. Together, we develop an individualized treatment plan aligned with the client's values and readiness. Sessions may include skill-building, trauma processing, recovery support, and strengthening emotional regulation and self-awareness, with regular check-ins to ensure therapy remains collaborative and effective.

I am a Christian counselor and believe people have need of mind/body/spirit balance to address the emotional pain, psychological turmoil, and physical challenges in life. I meet individuals where they are and, with the focus of accomplishing the wellness goals of the individual, answer the need for therapeutic interventions. I use a variety of modalities dependent on the needs of the patient, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Person Centered Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, and Christ Centered Christian Counseling Intervention. Patients should be aware that I specialize in straightforwardness and application of the structure of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy in sessions. Patients are of the utmost importance when receiving therapy and are the key to mental health intervention and thereby change. I respect the wishes of patients with target goals and behaviors, while also providing support, care, and help. I acknowledge and am knowledgeable about getting to the heart of problems, issues, and concerns and identifying what is best in the patient's opinion to address, then addressing them. I typically address the dynamics of a therapeutic relationship with patients, along with asking and assessing what patients hope to obtain or accomplish in therapy, and I discuss each clinical step taken to get to the accomplishments of the patient.

I received my bachelor's from the University of Kansas and my master's from the University of Missouri, and I continue educational opportunities in counseling/therapy and theology. I have decades of experience collaborating with patients providing mental health care and interventions to facilitate health and wellness, and I have worked in all aspects of mental health ranging from crisis care to rehabilitation. I have a great depth of community service connections and resources to link individuals in the community and an opportunity to extend support networks for greater health.

I have worked with a wide range of diagnoses including Anxiety, Depression, Bipolar, Schizophrenia, Marital, Grief, Alcohol and Substance Use, Addictions, Workplace Issues, Relationship and Social Issues, Multicultural Issues, Faith Crisis, and Adjustment Issues.
