Biography

I have a particular passion and specialty in working with the LGBTQ population, and I also enjoy helping patients address depression and mood concerns, anxiety disorders, trauma, self-criticism and shame, grief and loss, major life transitions, social discontent, and medical conditions such as HIV/AIDS. I work with adults across the lifespan and strive to create an affirming and inclusive therapeutic environment. My work with each patient is individualized and guided by their needs and collaboratively defined goals. Patients can expect a warm, authentic, and direct therapeutic style. My approach is primarily skills-based, most often drawing from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, within a client-centered and attachment-focused relationship. Therapy often explores how perspective, assumptions, and self-narratives contribute to distress, with practical action plans to support growth. I view therapy as a collaborative process aimed at meaningful change and a more fulfilling, values-driven life.

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 15 years of experience across a wide range of mental health and social service settings, including academic outpatient clinics, community health centers, residential programs, clinical research, the VA, EAP services, and HIV/AIDS service organizations. I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Saint Louis University and a Master of Social Work in Clinical Social Work/Mental Health from Washington University in St. Louis.

I believe it is both a privilege and a responsibility to create a safe, supportive space where patients can clarify goals and develop aspirations. My work emphasizes identifying barriers to success and examining unhelpful core beliefs, allowing patients to move toward meaningful and sustainable change. From there, I collaborate with patients to develop individualized goals, revisiting and refining them over time to support clarity, growth, and progress throughout therapy.

My style is warm, collaborative, and direct, balancing validation with gentle challenge when patterns are no longer serving the client. I prioritize transparency, autonomy, and pacing therapy in a way that feels safe, respectful, and empowering. I am trained in trauma-informed, evidence-based approaches emphasizing attachment, nervous system regulation, emotional safety, and sustainable coping skills. I understand how overwhelming it can feel to navigate mental health, medical, or recovery systems that often move faster than emotions can process.

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with experience across inpatient acute psychiatric settings, inpatient substance use and addiction recovery, and outpatient care. My clinical background includes supporting individuals experiencing acute mental health crises, co-occurring disorders, and complex psychosocial stressors. I also bring firsthand experience advocating for medically complex children and their families, which informs a deep understanding of caregiver stress, medical trauma, and systems fatigue. My approach is grounded and shaped by work in high-acuity environments.

Early sessions focus on building trust, stabilizing where needed, and identifying patterns shaped by past experiences. Together, we develop an individualized treatment plan aligned with the client's values and readiness. I am a firm believer in meeting people at their own pace to accomplish their objectives at their own speed. My initial appointment is an assessment, gathering the client's background information and reason for seeking treatment, focusing on the client's own specific goals and desires for therapy, and helping the client envision what this would look like for them in order to establish a general roadmap toward their aspirations. After the first session, I concentrate on what complications exist to the client's objectives and how the client can utilize supportive tools and resources to help overcome these barriers. I practice with a holistic approach that incorporates cognitive behavioral, dialectical behavioral, and mindfulness-based therapy techniques to help clients gain awareness, practice acceptance, and foster resiliency. Each of these therapy modalities requires active participation from the client to connect mind with body, intent with action, so that healthier patterns can emerge. I specialize in providing counseling for mood disorders, obsessive compulsive disorder, prolonged grief disorder, adjustment disorders, and women's issues, and I also help clients navigate relationship difficulties and other challenges. I am passionate about serving the LGBTQ+ community and providing a safe space for my clients regardless of differences in gender identity, expression, sexual orientation, race, and culture.

I am a licensed mental health counselor at the New York State Education Department Office of the Professions and a licensed professional counselor at the Texas State Board of Examiners of Professional Counselors. I completed my Master's in Mental Health Counseling at Brooklyn College, City University of New York, and have been practicing for 5 years as a licensed therapist. I completed my clinical internship and worked as a therapist at the Institute for Human Identity, one of the first psychotherapy centers in New York to provide LGBTQ+ affirmative psychotherapy.

After completing my Master's degree, I began working at an outpatient cancer center where I provided care coordination and therapeutic support to patients and their families enduring cancer diagnoses, treatments, and end of life. I then worked to pursue my clinical license working with adults with significant and persistent mental illness in an outpatient setting. I subscribe to a humanistic, motivational enhancement, and cognitive behavioral framework. Understanding the benefit of therapeutic rapport, I foster an environment of self-acceptance and self-awareness while promoting intrinsic motivation for patients to act as their own catalyst of change. I have a passion for working with individuals from diverse backgrounds, the LGBTQIA+ community, women with reproductive challenges, and victims of domestic violence.

I earned my Master's Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Eastern Kentucky University in 2015 and have worked with patients in a clinical capacity for the past six years. While in graduate school, I was exposed to various clinical and research experiences, where I found my passion in examining the motivational factors of human behavior. My academic work strengthened my interest in working with individuals in a therapeutic capacity, which ultimately led to advanced experiential training in crisis interventions and the treatment of individuals with severe and persistent mental illness. Before relocating to New York City, I worked with individuals in under-served communities in the Appalachian region.
