I am a Harvard trained, board certified adult psychiatrist who specializes in creating individually tailored treatment plans using high quality evidence and up-to-date clinical guidelines. I specialize in depression, anxiety, PTSD, bipolar disorder, OCD, ADHD, and many other mental health disorders.

When meeting with a patient for the first time, I carefully review current symptoms, past history, and patient values and preferences, and I work with the patient to develop individual treatment goals. My approach to patient care is rooted in empathy, trust, and collaboration. I am dedicated to listening closely to each patient's unique concerns and crafting personalized treatment plans that address both immediate symptoms and long-term mental well-being. My specialties include managing mood disorders, anxiety, depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and stress-related conditions, with a particular emphasis on helping individuals navigate life transitions and mental health challenges. I believe in a thorough and patient-centered approach: during the first session, I take the time to understand my patient's history, current struggles, and goals for treatment, and together we establish clear and realistic objectives to guide the treatment process. I offer a combination of psychotherapy, medication management, and wellness strategies, and I value open communication to ensure that every patient feels heard and empowered throughout their mental health journey.

I am a staff psychiatrist at Talkiatry, dedicated to providing compassionate and effective care through telepsychiatry. I completed my undergraduate studies at Moravian College in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, where I focused on Neuroscience and Pre-Medical studies. I then pursued my medical degree at Rocky Vista University in Parker, Colorado before completing my psychiatry residency at HCA Aurora in Aurora, Colorado. I was the recipient of the Chairman's Crystal Distinction of Excellence Award, recognizing a resident's exemplary performance and endorsing a resident's future success in the field of psychiatry. With a strong foundation in both neuroscience and psychiatry, I approach each patient with a deep understanding of the mind-body connection and the complexities of mental health.

When I am not providing professional care, I am an advocate for personal health and wellness. I enjoy spending quality time with my wife and family, staying active through exercise, relaxing at the Jersey Shore, and exploring new travel destinations.

I believe in a mind-body interconnection, and strive to address both aspects to provide truly holistic care. I am passionate about treating ADHD, and utilize medications plus skill building in my sessions to help my patients maximize their potential. My extensive experience also includes treating mood disorders, anxiety disorders, PTSD, and OCD. I work in partnership with patients to find a treatment plan that will be effective, while also being sensitive to financial or insurance coverage factors that may impact care.

I am a double board certified psychiatrist in General Psychiatry and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. Following completion of my training, I spent the next 10 years fulfilling my passion for indigent care of children, working in a community mental health center. I went on to complete additional training in Functional Medicine, with the goal of offering patients greater insight into the physical factors contributing to their symptoms. I have also trained in Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction, and encourage mindfulness as a healing technique along with medication management. Over the following 10 years, I treated a broad range of patients in a private practice setting, including children and adults.

I practice thoughtful and evidence-based medication management. I am a board-certified adult psychiatrist known for making my patients feel seen and heard. I use both medication management and supportive psychotherapy, and as a seasoned psychopharmacologist, I emphasize the importance of nutrition, exercise, and community in mental health. I enjoy all aspects of medicine and combine my extensive knowledge with a patient-centered approach.

I completed my medical school and residency at the University of New Mexico, where I later served as a psychiatrist and assistant professor, treating high-need patients and teaching residents and medical students. During the pandemic, I transitioned to telehealth and have been dedicated to this field for the past four years. My academic journey began as a physics major at UNM; I then studied biophysics at the University of San Diego, California. During my postdoctoral fellowship at Los Alamos National Laboratories, I was inspired by presentations about professionals working with patients in African countries, which sparked my interest in medicine.

During that time, my father died of cancer, and I witnessed the impact of mental health therapy on his quality of life, further solidifying my motivation to attend medical school. Witnessing the profound impact of mental health on my patients and family, I specialized in psychiatry.

I primarily focus on medication management for general psychiatric conditions. My approach is individualized, ensuring that each patient receives a treatment plan tailored to their unique needs. I integrate supportive therapy, medications, and evidence-based alternative therapies to provide a flexible and comprehensive approach. In addition to my general practice, I maintain a psychodynamic psychotherapy panel where I help patients explore developmental and relational patterns that contribute to their symptoms. My specialties include treating depression, anxiety, adjustment disorders, PTSD, insomnia, bipolar disorder, and ADHD.

I am a board-certified psychiatrist. I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology from the University of Colorado at Boulder and went on to obtain a master's degree in Medical Science from Loyola University Chicago. I completed my medical training at the Robert Larner, M.D. College of Medicine at The University of Vermont and returned to Colorado for my psychiatry residency at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. While in residency, I specialized in the Psychotherapy Scholars Program and have since gained four years of experience treating psychiatric conditions through telehealth.

During the first visit, patients can expect a one-hour comprehensive intake during which I thoroughly evaluate their symptoms, medical history, and personal goals. I provide treatment options that prioritize flexibility, allowing patients to take an active role in their care. Follow-up visits typically last 20 to 30 minutes, focusing on assessing treatment progress and making necessary adjustments. For those engaged in psychodynamic psychotherapy, longer one-hour sessions are available for in-depth exploration of underlying psychological patterns.

My practice focuses on a duality of treatment strategies: specifically psychotropic medication management in conjunction with non-pharmacologic treatment modalities including supportive psychotherapy, emotive supportive psychotherapy, and personalized variants of psychodynamic/interpersonal psychotherapy. For my outpatient practice, I focus on mood disorders, anxiety disorders, OCD, personality disorders, and family dynamics. I also have experience facilitating the coordination of psychosocial treatments in underserved populations.

I was born and raised in a neighborhood in the North Bronx. I attended Queens College, CUNY, where I graduated Summa Cum Laude with a B.A. in Hebrew. I completed medical school at NYIT College of Osteopathic Medicine in Old Westbury, NY, and thereafter was accepted to NUMC for psychiatry residency training. For my final year of residency, I was appointed to the position of Chief Resident for Academics & Research for the Psychiatry residency program at NUMC, Nassau University Medical Center. I received two awards during my residency training: the Acute Mental Health Services Award and the Ambulatory Mental Health Services Award at the end of my 2nd and 3rd years of residency training, respectively. At NUMC, I underwent rigorous training in a multitude of psychiatric settings and have experience managing a wide array of psychiatric areas of treatment, including mood/bipolar disorders, ADHD, depression, anxiety, and personality disorders, as well as the intersection of medical disorders and psychiatric disorders.

FAQs

How does Talkiatry work?

Talkiatry is an online psychiatry practice designed to make high-quality mental health care more accessible. We’re 100% virtual, in-network with major insurance plans, and first appointments are typically available in days.

To get started, you’ll complete a quick online assessment to tell us what you’re looking for. We’ll match you with psychiatrists who are licensed in your state, in-network with your insurance, and experienced in treating your concerns. You’ll choose the clinician you’d like to work with.

Your first visit is an in-depth evaluation where your psychiatrist will listen, provide a diagnosis, and work with you to create a treatment plan tailored to your goals and preferences. You’ll continue seeing the same clinician over time, adjusting your plan as your needs evolve. Our team is always here to help with scheduling, insurance, and questions about your care.

Do you provide therapy?

Care at Talkiatry starts with psychiatry. If you already have a Talkiatry psychiatrist, they can refer you to one of our therapists if you’ve decided together that therapy is the right next step. However, you can’t see a Talkiatry therapist if you aren’t already seeing one of our psychiatrists.

What should I do if I’m having an emergency?

Talkiatry does not provide emergency care. If you or someone you know is in crisis, please visit your nearest emergency room, call 911, or call or text the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline at 988.

How much will my visit cost?

The majority of our visits cost patients $25 or less after insurance*, but your exact out-of-pocket cost depends on your plan. The best way to get a clear estimate is to contact your insurance provider directly. Here’s what to ask them:

  • Do I have mental health benefits that include outpatient psychiatry?
  • Is Talkiatry in-network for my plan?
  • What’s my copay or coinsurance for outpatient psychiatry visits?
  • Do I have a deductible? If so, how close am I to meeting it?
  • Do I have an out-of-pocket maximum? If so, how close am I to reaching it?
  • Are virtual or telehealth psychiatry visits covered the same as in-person care?
  • Is prior authorization required for outpatient psychiatry?
  • Can you provide a cost estimate for an in-network psychiatry visit using CPT code 99204?
  • Can you provide a cost estimate for an in-network psychotherapy visit using CPT code 90833?

*Includes all patient costs from 9/24-9/25: copayment, deductible, coinsurance, and $0 payments. Excludes missed appt. fees.  Your medical visit costs can vary depending on insurance coverage.

What if I don’t want to take medication?

Psychiatrists are medical doctors, and medication is often part of how they treat mental health conditions. At Talkiatry, your psychiatrist will start by listening and discussing your options with you. Medication is always your choice, but if it’s not something you’re open to considering, we may not be the best fit for ongoing care at this time.

How do I know if Talkiatry can help me?

Talkiatry provides virtual, in-network psychiatric care for people struggling with mild to moderate mental health issues. Here’s what we can help with:

  • Anxiety
  • ADHD (attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder)
  • Bipolar disorder
  • Child & adolescent care
  • Depression
  • OCD (obsessive-compulsive disorder)
  • Pregnancy & postpartum care
  • PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder)
  • Substance use disorder

Our goal is to connect you with the best possible care for you. At your first visit, your doctor will confirm whether Talkiatry is the right fit. If they recommend in-person or higher-level care, they’ll guide you to the appropriate resources.

What if my insurance changes from Blue Cross Blue Shield?

Insurance changes are common, and we’re here to help. Talkiatry is in-network with thousands of plans. If your insurance changes, reach out to a Care Coordinator to update your information and confirm your coverage by calling 833-351-TALK (8255).

Do I still take the assessment if I’m already diagnosed with ADHD?

Yes. Our online assessment is an important part of how we match you with the right psychiatrist. Your first visit will include a thorough evaluation so your psychiatrist can confirm your diagnosis and tailor your treatment plan to your current needs.
