I specialize in treating complex psychiatric conditions, including depression, anxiety, PTSD, OCD, bipolar disorder, and insomnia. As a proponent of holistic care, I integrate psychotherapy into medication management and emphasize lifestyle modifications and evidence-based integrative medicine. New patients receive comprehensive evaluations to rule out medical causes of symptoms, followed by tailored treatment plans combining therapy, medication, and lifestyle adjustments. Follow-up visits focus on symptom management through supportive, brief dynamic, or cognitive behavioral therapy, with frequent appointments until stabilization is achieved. I am committed to collaborative, patient-centered care that addresses both mental and physical well-being.

I am board certified in psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN). I earned my medical degree from Kansas City University and completed my psychiatry residency at John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth, Texas. During medical school, I pursued advanced training as an Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine fellow. As a resident, I served as Chief Academic Resident and earned accolades such as Intern of the Year and Outstanding Educator of the Year twice consecutively. I have presented case studies and quality improvement projects at national conferences, including the American Psychiatric Association (APA), Academy of Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry, and Association for Academic Psychiatry.

A combat veteran, I served in the U.S. Marine Corps, including a tour in Iraq, and was honored with the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal and a Certificate of Commendation for exemplary leadership.

I offer an integration of medication management and various psychotherapy. I am certified in supportive psychotherapy, prolonged exposure therapy for PTSD, motivational interviewing, CBT for chronic pain, Integrated Behavioral Couples Therapy, and Whole Health. With the right combination of treatments, patients can achieve their potential and relieve suffering.

In an initial visit, patients can expect a thorough, collaborative discussion with shared decision making to understand their symptoms, life goals, and clinical needs. I will evaluate the patient's condition to determine appropriate medication interventions and discuss personalized treatment recommendations including integrated psychotherapy. Typical follow-up visits are approximately 20-30 minutes in length. Depending on the severity and complexity of a patient's situation, referrals to additional counseling or therapy may also be suggested.

I am a Board-Certified psychiatrist and psychoanalyst with over 30 years' experience in medication management and therapy. I trained and worked in New York City for 20 years and am now living in Hawaii. My training includes Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons, Columbia University Psychiatry Residency Program (Chief Resident), Columbia University Public Psychiatry Fellowship, and Columbia University Center for Psychoanalytic Training and Research.

I completed my undergraduate studies at Moravian College in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, where I focused on Neuroscience and Pre-Medical studies. I then pursued my medical degree at Rocky Vista University in Parker, Colorado before completing my psychiatry residency at HCA Aurora in Aurora, Colorado. I was the recipient of the Chairman's Crystal Distinction of Excellence Award, recognizing a resident's exemplary performance and endorsing a resident's future success in the field of psychiatry. With a strong foundation in both neuroscience and psychiatry, I approach each patient with a deep understanding of the mind-body connection and the complexities of mental health.

When I am not providing professional care, I am an advocate for personal health and wellness. I enjoy spending quality time with my wife and family, staying active through exercise, relaxing at the Jersey Shore, and exploring new travel destinations.

I grew up in southeastern Idaho. I earned a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology from the University of California at Berkeley in 2009 and my Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree in 2014 from the University of Chicago. I completed my psychiatry residency at the University of Utah in 2018 and became board certified in Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in 2019. Following my residency, I worked as an inpatient psychiatrist at the Huntsman Mental Health Institute in Salt Lake City, Utah and served as an assistant clinical professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Utah. In 2021 I moved to Dallas, Texas to work in a residential and partial hospitalization treatment center for eating disorders.

I work with my patients to determine the best medication and treatment strategies based on the biological processes underlying psychological illness, trying to promote long-term recovery, not just symptom relief. Treatment pursues the promotion of behavioral changes that contribute to better physical and mental wellbeing. My clinical focus has been in treating adults with depression, anxiety, posttraumatic stress disorder, neurocognitive disorder, sleep disorder, and ADHD. I provide medication management services in combination with some forms of psychotherapy during 30-minute follow-up visits.

I am a bilingual psychiatrist, fluent in English and Spanish, and am board-certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. I received my medical degree from Del Rosario University School of Medicine in Bogota, Colombia, where I also completed residency training in Neurology. I obtained my PhD in Neuroscience at the University of Miami, investigating mechanisms for neuronal plasticity and survival. I completed my psychiatry internship at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, NY, and completed my Adult Psychiatry residency training at the University of Miami-Jackson Memorial Hospital program in Miami, FL. I am a clinician-researcher who has been practicing for more than 30 years in the inpatient and outpatient setting, and I am also faculty at Florida International University (FIU).

I received my Bachelor of Arts and Doctor of Medicine degrees from the University of Pennsylvania and completed my Residency in Psychiatry at Mount Sinai Medical Center in Manhattan. I have been board certified in psychiatry since 2001 and am a Life Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association. I have held numerous clinical and academic appointments, including serving as Chairperson of Psychiatry at Huntington Hospital in Huntington, New York, and Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at Hofstra North Shore-LIJ School of Medicine. I have over 25 years of clinical experience treating all mental health conditions. I authored a section on the pharmacology of social anxiety in the book Work Makes Me Nervous, and I have lectured on the pharmacologic management of borderline personality disorder, including a presentation at the NIMH International Think Tank for the More Effective Treatment of Borderline Personality Disorder. I have also completed a fellowship in integrative psychiatry.

I completed my undergraduate education at Johns Hopkins University, where I graduated Phi Beta Kappa with a bachelor's in neuroscience, and I later attended medical school at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. My interest in neuroscience, combined with a passion for the humanistic side of medicine, led me to pursue a psychiatry residency at NYU, where I gained experience working with a diverse patient population. After completing residency in 2018, I chose to pursue private practice to allow more time with patients and to build on my interest in psychotherapy. I spent over 6 years in solo and group private practice in Los Angeles. I am committed to working with insurance-based practices, as I am passionate about providing affordable access to quality healthcare.

I am a board-eligible psychiatrist who specializes in the treatment of adults. I seek to provide a safe, non-judgmental, gender affirming space for patients as they strive to lead a happier, more contented life. I employ a holistic, multimodal treatment approach, and aiming to treat the whole person, I stress the importance of nutrition, exercise, and sleep. I believe an informed patient actively engaged in decision making surrounding treatment has the best chance of effecting lasting change. Believing in the synergistic effect of talk therapy and medication, I incorporate one or more talk therapy techniques, including motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral therapy, and supportive and psychodynamic psychotherapies, into most sessions. After a pediatrics residency, I worked for 13 years as a pediatric ER physician. My interest in psychiatry was piqued during this time as I witnessed the emergence of a child and adolescent mental health crisis. While ultimately deciding to focus my efforts on the treatment of adults, I am keenly aware of the influence of child development and family systems on the behavioral health of adults.

I am a board-certified physician in both adult and child & adolescent psychiatry, with a focus on the diagnosis and treatment of depressive disorders, anxiety disorders, trauma- and stressor-related disorders, and ADHD. I take a holistic approach to treatment, incorporating both medication management and psychotherapy. I utilize principles from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and supportive psychotherapy, recognizing that a combined approach leads to better outcomes for patients.

I graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Houston, majoring in Biology with a minor in Chemistry. I then pursued my medical education at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, earning my Doctor of Medicine degree. I completed a three-year psychiatric residency at TTUHSC, followed by fellowship training in child and adolescent psychiatry. I completed my first year of fellowship at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston and my second year at TTUHSC.

With a diverse clinical background, I have gained experience in a variety of settings, including academic psychiatry, consult liaison psychiatry, intensive outpatient programs (IOP), partial hospitalization programs (PHP), emergency psychiatry, and outpatient psychiatry. This broad range of experience allows me to provide comprehensive, individualized care to patients at all stages of life.

I am trained and experienced in diagnosing and treating various psychiatric disorders including depression, anxiety, psychosis, and bipolar disorder, with a focus on posttraumatic stress disorder, women's mental health, and cultural psychiatry. I combine my clinical expertise with a passion for working with underserved populations and the LGBTQIA+ population to address mental health needs across various communities.

I am a graduate of the University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine and completed my psychiatry residency training at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, IL. I have experience working in a variety of settings, including as an outpatient psychiatrist at a federally qualified health center (FQHC) and as a correctional psychiatrist at the Washoe County Sheriff's Office in Reno, NV. In addition to my clinical work, I have participated in research and education and have co-authored peer-reviewed articles in the fields of psychiatry and biology.

I am a firm believer in combining psychotherapy with medication management when warranted to manage and treat a wide variety of mental health conditions including, but not limited to, Depressive Disorders, Bipolar Disorders, Psychotic Disorders, Anxiety Disorders, Trauma related disorders, Substance use disorders, Personality disorders, Sleep Disorders, and Eating Disorders. I was born and raised in St. Louis, MO and am board certified with ABPN (American Board of Psychiatry & Neurology). Upon completion of my residency through St. Louis University, St. Louis, I joined my parents' Internal Medicine practice. I learned firsthand that implementing mental health awareness, screening, and education into a primary medically focused practice led to more favorable outcomes. Many mental health conditions can manifest as and/or exacerbate a variety of medical/physical conditions and thereby go undiagnosed and untreated. I have worked closely and coordinated care within the medical field and with other specialists in treating and diagnosing comorbid mental health conditions.

While in private practice for over 10 years, I was also an attending and consultant for inpatient mental health care and provided mental health services for residents in various residential care facilities, group homes, and skilled nursing facilities. Over the past 5 years I have consolidated my practice and am presently employed with Compass Health Network in Missouri, helping bridge the gap in mental health care by coordinating and providing care to the underserved community.
