I provide compassionate psychiatric care using pharmacotherapy combined with supportive psychotherapy. I specialize in treating anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and numerous other psychiatric conditions. I also emphasize nutritional counseling, assisting patients in achieving and maintaining a healthy weight as part of their overall wellness plan. In an initial visit, patients can expect a thorough assessment aimed at understanding their psychiatric symptoms, personal health goals, and lifestyle considerations. I combine medication evaluation with supportive psychotherapy and may discuss nutritional guidance as part of a holistic treatment plan. I prioritize creating a supportive environment for bilingual (English/Spanish) patients to openly discuss their mental health concerns.

I am a bilingual Spanish-speaking adult psychiatrist with 25 years of experience. I completed my residency in Adult Psychiatry at Saint Vincent's Hospital and Medical Center in New York City and subsequently completed a Child Psychiatry fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. I have extensive experience practicing in outpatient and community mental health settings.

I use a compassionate and thoughtful approach in order to form a collaborative partnership with my patients. I believe in treating the person as a whole and tailoring treatments to each individual's specific needs. I hold a special interest in treating mood disorders, anxiety disorders, and OCD. I work with patients in 30-minute follow-up sessions, where in addition to medication management I provide supportive and at times psychodynamic therapeutic techniques.

I am double board certified in General Psychiatry and Addiction Psychiatry. I graduated from Tufts University before completing medical school at New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine. I then completed residency at Maimonides Medical Center, where I was a Chief Resident, and subsequently pursued an addiction psychiatry fellowship at Mount Sinai Beth Israel. I was also trained in psychodynamic psychotherapy by the Psychoanalytic Association of NY. Following my training, I returned to Maimonides Medical Center, where I worked as an attending in the adult outpatient clinic, treating patients from many different backgrounds with a wide array of diagnoses.

My practice focuses on medication management, which I typically offer in conjunction with supportive or insight-oriented therapy in 30-minute follow-up visits. My primary focus is treating adult outpatients with mood or psychotic disorders, though I have treated a wide range of adult patients throughout my career. On occasion, I will determine that additional therapy is also needed and ask that you bring a therapist into your care team to provide the best outcome.

I am board-certified in Adult Psychiatry and have been practicing for over 25 years. I completed my undergraduate studies at Tufts University, received my medical degree from Temple University School of Medicine in Philadelphia, PA, and continued with Temple for my residency in adult psychiatry. After completing training, I worked at Cooper Hospital in Camden, NJ as Associate Director of Consultation/Liaison Service and Psychiatry Residency Training and Co-Director of the Neuropsychiatry Clinic. I then began working exclusively in outpatient settings, joined NewPoint Behavioral Health Care, and served as Medical Director before and after their merge with Acenda Integrated Health. I currently hold the position of Staff Psychiatrist at Talkiatry.

My approach to patient care is rooted in empathy, trust, and collaboration. I am dedicated to listening closely to each patient's unique concerns and crafting personalized treatment plans that address both immediate symptoms and long-term mental well-being. My specialties include managing mood disorders, anxiety, depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and stress-related conditions, with a particular emphasis on helping individuals navigate life transitions and mental health challenges. I believe in a thorough and patient-centered approach: during the first session, I take the time to understand my patient's history, current struggles, and goals for treatment, and together we establish clear and realistic objectives to guide the treatment process. I offer a combination of psychotherapy, medication management, and wellness strategies, and I value open communication to ensure that every patient feels heard and empowered throughout their mental health journey.

I am a staff psychiatrist at Talkiatry, dedicated to providing compassionate and effective care through telepsychiatry. I completed my undergraduate studies at Moravian College in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, where I focused on Neuroscience and Pre-Medical studies. I then pursued my medical degree at Rocky Vista University in Parker, Colorado before completing my psychiatry residency at HCA Aurora in Aurora, Colorado. I was the recipient of the Chairman's Crystal Distinction of Excellence Award, recognizing a resident's exemplary performance and endorsing a resident's future success in the field of psychiatry. With a strong foundation in both neuroscience and psychiatry, I approach each patient with a deep understanding of the mind-body connection and the complexities of mental health.

When I am not providing professional care, I am an advocate for personal health and wellness. I enjoy spending quality time with my wife and family, staying active through exercise, relaxing at the Jersey Shore, and exploring new travel destinations.

I favor a holistic and integrative approach to psychiatry, combining medication management with supportive therapy and elements of cognitive behavioral therapy, while remaining open to other treatment modalities depending on the needs of my patients. When more focused therapy is indicated, I may recommend that my patient work with a provider specializing in a particular modality of therapy as part of their treatment. I treat adult patients with mood disorders including major depressive disorder and bipolar disorder, anxiety spectrum disorders, OCD, PTSD, and specific phobias.

I began my practice at Talkiatry after completing my psychiatry residency at the Eastern Long Island branch of Stony Brook University, where I treated a diverse patient population. I received my undergraduate degree from St. John's University in Queens, where I studied Philosophy. Initially interested in a career in law, I decided to change gears and pursue a career in medicine after watching a relative struggle with her diagnosis of Diabetes Mellitus. I then completed medical school at Tel Aviv University in Israel, where I fell in love with psychiatry during my clerkship at Ichilov Medical Center. During that rotation, I came to appreciate how each patient has his or her own unique story, regardless of their diagnosis.

In my spare time, I enjoy a variety of hobbies, including Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, running, baseball, and exploring new eateries and shops.

I'm a board-certified adult psychiatrist. I completed my medical training at the University of California Irvine School of Medicine, then moved to New York for my psychiatric residency at Mount Sinai Beth Israel. During training, I gained extensive clinical experience across psychiatric inpatient, outpatient, and emergency settings, which gave me the opportunity to treat patients of all ages and backgrounds. I also co-led a mindfulness group at the outpatient clinic, worked with students at Baruch College, and rotated with the Assertive Community Treatment team at MSBI.

Ultimately, I chose to specialize in outpatient care, focusing on treating patients with mood and anxiety disorders. While my practice primarily emphasizes medication management, I also incorporate supportive and cognitive behavioral therapy techniques in my sessions. If appropriate, I'll refer you for psychotherapy and collaborate with your therapist to support your care. I look forward to meeting and working with you to help you feel better.

FAQs

How does Talkiatry work?

Talkiatry is an online psychiatry practice designed to make high-quality mental health care more accessible. We’re 100% virtual, in-network with major insurance plans, and first appointments are typically available in days.

To get started, you’ll complete a quick online assessment to tell us what you’re looking for. We’ll match you with psychiatrists who are licensed in your state, in-network with your insurance, and experienced in treating your concerns. You’ll choose the clinician you’d like to work with.

Your first visit is an in-depth evaluation where your psychiatrist will listen, provide a diagnosis, and work with you to create a treatment plan tailored to your goals and preferences. You’ll continue seeing the same clinician over time, adjusting your plan as your needs evolve. Our team is always here to help with scheduling, insurance, and questions about your care.

Do you provide therapy?

Care at Talkiatry starts with psychiatry. If you already have a Talkiatry psychiatrist, they can refer you to one of our therapists if you’ve decided together that therapy is the right next step. However, you can’t see a Talkiatry therapist if you aren’t already seeing one of our psychiatrists.

What should I do if I’m having an emergency?

Talkiatry does not provide emergency care. If you or someone you know is in crisis, please visit your nearest emergency room, call 911, or call or text the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline at 988.

How much will my visit cost?

The majority of our visits cost patients $25 or less after insurance*, but your exact out-of-pocket cost depends on your plan. The best way to get a clear estimate is to contact your insurance provider directly. Here’s what to ask them:

  • Do I have mental health benefits that include outpatient psychiatry?
  • Is Talkiatry in-network for my plan?
  • What’s my copay or coinsurance for outpatient psychiatry visits?
  • Do I have a deductible? If so, how close am I to meeting it?
  • Do I have an out-of-pocket maximum? If so, how close am I to reaching it?
  • Are virtual or telehealth psychiatry visits covered the same as in-person care?
  • Is prior authorization required for outpatient psychiatry?
  • Can you provide a cost estimate for an in-network psychiatry visit using CPT code 99204?
  • Can you provide a cost estimate for an in-network psychotherapy visit using CPT code 90833?

*Includes all patient costs from 9/24-9/25: copayment, deductible, coinsurance, and $0 payments. Excludes missed appt. fees.  Your medical visit costs can vary depending on insurance coverage.

What if I don’t want to take medication?

Psychiatrists are medical doctors, and medication is often part of how they treat mental health conditions. At Talkiatry, your psychiatrist will start by listening and discussing your options with you. Medication is always your choice, but if it’s not something you’re open to considering, we may not be the best fit for ongoing care at this time.

How do I know if Talkiatry can help me?

Talkiatry provides virtual, in-network psychiatric care for people struggling with mild to moderate mental health issues. Here’s what we can help with:

  • Anxiety
  • ADHD (attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder)
  • Bipolar disorder
  • Child & adolescent care
  • Depression
  • OCD (obsessive-compulsive disorder)
  • Pregnancy & postpartum care
  • PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder)
  • Substance use disorder

Our goal is to connect you with the best possible care for you. At your first visit, your doctor will confirm whether Talkiatry is the right fit. If they recommend in-person or higher-level care, they’ll guide you to the appropriate resources.

What if my insurance changes from Blue Cross Blue Shield?

Insurance changes are common, and we’re here to help. Talkiatry is in-network with thousands of plans. If your insurance changes, reach out to a Care Coordinator to update your information and confirm your coverage by calling 833-351-TALK (8255).

Do I still take the assessment if I’m already diagnosed with depression?

Yes. Our online assessment is an important part of how we match you with the right psychiatrist. Your first visit will include a thorough evaluation so your psychiatrist can confirm your diagnosis and tailor your treatment plan to your current needs.
