My practice focuses on psychopharmacological interventions, which I typically combine with a strong emphasis on Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT). I strongly believe that the best outcomes are achieved when you treat a person and not just the illness. While I enjoy working with adults with various psychiatric disorders, my primary focus is on treating adults with various anxiety and depressive disorders. I also have a special interest in co-occurring sleep disorders with these conditions.

I am a Staff Psychiatrist at Talkiatry. I have completed adult psychiatry training and am board certified, and I have been actively involved in mental health care in various capacities over the past 7 years. I received my medical degree from one of the largest publicly funded medical schools in India, L.L.R.M. Medical College, Meerut, India, before moving to the US. I gained experience in mental and behavioral health in various roles at some of the most prestigious institutions in the US, namely Northwestern University, Emory University, and North Shore-LIJ. My approach to patient care is rooted in empathy, trust, and collaboration. I am dedicated to listening closely to each patient's unique concerns and crafting personalized treatment plans that address both immediate symptoms and long-term mental well-being. My specialties include managing mood disorders, anxiety, depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and stress-related conditions, with a particular emphasis on helping individuals navigate life transitions and mental health challenges. I believe in a thorough and patient-centered approach: during the first session, I take the time to understand my patient's history, current struggles, and goals for treatment, and together we establish clear and realistic objectives to guide the treatment process. I offer a combination of psychotherapy, medication management, and wellness strategies, and I value open communication to ensure that every patient feels heard and empowered throughout their mental health journey.

I am a staff psychiatrist at Talkiatry, dedicated to providing compassionate and effective care through telepsychiatry. I completed my undergraduate studies at Moravian College in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, where I focused on Neuroscience and Pre-Medical studies. I then pursued my medical degree at Rocky Vista University in Parker, Colorado before completing my psychiatry residency at HCA Aurora in Aurora, Colorado. I was the recipient of the Chairman's Crystal Distinction of Excellence Award, recognizing a resident's exemplary performance and endorsing a resident's future success in the field of psychiatry. With a strong foundation in both neuroscience and psychiatry, I approach each patient with a deep understanding of the mind-body connection and the complexities of mental health.

When I am not providing professional care, I am an advocate for personal health and wellness. I enjoy spending quality time with my wife and family, staying active through exercise, relaxing at the Jersey Shore, and exploring new travel destinations.

I practice a holistic approach, combining psychiatric medications with elements of psychotherapy and mindfulness. I offer individualized and comprehensive treatment plans that address the whole person, including lifestyle and social engagement, because the latest research findings show that both play an important role in mental and physical health. Education on mental illness and recommendations on diet and exercise are always discussed with my patients according to each individual's needs. I spend time listening to patients and make plans based on clinical evidence without an authoritative approach, taking into consideration the patient's level of comfort and views because, in my experience, the best outcomes are always reached when patients fully understand and agree with the management of their conditions. I have extensive experience in psychopharmacology and offer state-of-the-art medication management with compassion and empathy, with a focus on mood disorders and anxiety.

I am Board Certified in Adult Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. I obtained my medical degree with Laude from the University of Rome, La Sapienza, and completed my residency in Psychiatry at Yale School of Medicine. I have been in practice for more than twenty years and have extensive experience in general Adult Psychiatry. I have led clinical programs and taught medical students, residents, and fellows in psychiatry and addiction in various clinical settings, including private institutions and universities such as Yale School of Medicine. Prior to joining Talkiatry, I had my own in-person clinical services for over ten years and telehealth services over the past four years, treating patients suffering mainly from depression, bipolar disorder, and anxiety. During my time in private practice, I received the Compassionate Doctor Recognition (Vitals) and the Patient's Choice Awards (Vitals), both based on patients' reviews.

I am passionate about integrative medicine, which combines evidence-based alternative therapies with conventional treatments to optimize outcomes. My approach focuses on promoting overall wellness, keeping both the body and mind in harmony. During the diagnostic evaluation, I will review your medical history and past treatments to develop a comprehensive, personalized treatment plan that prioritizes your overall wellness. In addition to medication management, I incorporate supportive, cognitive, or psychodynamic psychotherapy during follow-up visits, as time allows. When appropriate, I may also recommend referrals to specialized psychotherapists to address your individual needs as part of a holistic treatment approach.

I am double board-certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in both Adult Psychiatry and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. I earned my medical degree from Cairo University, where I also completed my neurology residency at Cairo University Hospitals. Following this, I pursued psychiatric training at New York Medical College at St. Vincent's Hospitals, where I was appointed Chief Resident and recognized as Resident of the Year. My career includes multiple leadership roles, notably serving as Chief of the Child and Adolescent Partial Hospital Programs (PHP) at Rutgers University in Newark, NJ, where I provided direct care to young patients. I prefer a holistic approach that takes the time to know the whole patient, incorporating biological, psychological, social, and cultural perspectives in crafting a comprehensive, individualized treatment plan. I practice medication management combined with supportive therapy, typically delivered within 30-minute sessions. Elements of psychodynamic, dialectical behavior, and cognitive-behavioral therapy are also incorporated into sessions based on a patient's individual needs. If additional therapy is needed, I will recommend the addition of an individual therapist to the patient's treatment team. My primary focus is working with patients with depression, anxiety, ADHD, and PTSD. I also value working with people adjusting to changes in their lives, whether it be grieving the loss of a loved one, changes in employment, relationships, or adjusting to changes that come with age.

I am a board certified adult psychiatrist. I completed my undergraduate training at Yale University and received my medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. I completed my residency training at the Cambridge Health Alliance/Harvard Medical School Adult Psychiatry Training Program. Having dedicated my career to adult outpatient psychiatry, I have worked with patients from a wide range of ages, cultures, ethnicities, and social settings across the New York City area. Prior to joining Talkiatry, I was an Assistant Professor at the NYU Grossman School of Medicine and served as Director of the Adult Outpatient Psychiatric Department, Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) Team, and Collaborative Care Departments at Woodhull Hospital in Brooklyn, New York. I also had a small practice near my home.

I have had a lifelong interest in meeting new people and experiencing different cultures. This interest has taken me as far away as the townships of Cape Town, South Africa and as close as my local diner, and it edifies the work I do with patients.

FAQs

How does Talkiatry work?

Talkiatry is an online psychiatry practice designed to make high-quality mental health care more accessible. We’re 100% virtual, in-network with major insurance plans, and first appointments are typically available in days.

To get started, you’ll complete a quick online assessment to tell us what you’re looking for. We’ll match you with psychiatrists who are licensed in your state, in-network with your insurance, and experienced in treating your concerns. You’ll choose the clinician you’d like to work with.

Your first visit is an in-depth evaluation where your psychiatrist will listen, provide a diagnosis, and work with you to create a treatment plan tailored to your goals and preferences. You’ll continue seeing the same clinician over time, adjusting your plan as your needs evolve. Our team is always here to help with scheduling, insurance, and questions about your care.

Do you provide therapy?

Care at Talkiatry starts with psychiatry. If you already have a Talkiatry psychiatrist, they can refer you to one of our therapists if you’ve decided together that therapy is the right next step. However, you can’t see a Talkiatry therapist if you aren’t already seeing one of our psychiatrists.

What should I do if I’m having an emergency?

Talkiatry does not provide emergency care. If you or someone you know is in crisis, please visit your nearest emergency room, call 911, or call or text the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline at 988.

How much will my visit cost?

The majority of our visits cost patients $25 or less after insurance*, but your exact out-of-pocket cost depends on your plan. The best way to get a clear estimate is to contact your insurance provider directly. Here’s what to ask them:

  • Do I have mental health benefits that include outpatient psychiatry?
  • Is Talkiatry in-network for my plan?
  • What’s my copay or coinsurance for outpatient psychiatry visits?
  • Do I have a deductible? If so, how close am I to meeting it?
  • Do I have an out-of-pocket maximum? If so, how close am I to reaching it?
  • Are virtual or telehealth psychiatry visits covered the same as in-person care?
  • Is prior authorization required for outpatient psychiatry?
  • Can you provide a cost estimate for an in-network psychiatry visit using CPT code 99204?
  • Can you provide a cost estimate for an in-network psychotherapy visit using CPT code 90833?

*Includes all patient costs from 9/24-9/25: copayment, deductible, coinsurance, and $0 payments. Excludes missed appt. fees.  Your medical visit costs can vary depending on insurance coverage.

What if I don’t want to take medication?

Psychiatrists are medical doctors, and medication is often part of how they treat mental health conditions. At Talkiatry, your psychiatrist will start by listening and discussing your options with you. Medication is always your choice, but if it’s not something you’re open to considering, we may not be the best fit for ongoing care at this time.

How do I know if Talkiatry can help me?

Talkiatry provides virtual, in-network psychiatric care for people struggling with mild to moderate mental health issues. Here’s what we can help with:

  • Anxiety
  • ADHD (attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder)
  • Bipolar disorder
  • Child & adolescent care
  • Depression
  • OCD (obsessive-compulsive disorder)
  • Pregnancy & postpartum care
  • PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder)
  • Substance use disorder

Our goal is to connect you with the best possible care for you. At your first visit, your doctor will confirm whether Talkiatry is the right fit. If they recommend in-person or higher-level care, they’ll guide you to the appropriate resources.

What if my insurance changes from Cigna?

Insurance changes are common, and we’re here to help. Talkiatry is in-network with thousands of plans. If your insurance changes, reach out to a Care Coordinator to update your information and confirm your coverage by calling 833-351-TALK (8255).

Do I still take the assessment if I’m already diagnosed with OCD?

Yes. Our online assessment is an important part of how we match you with the right psychiatrist. Your first visit will include a thorough evaluation so your psychiatrist can confirm your diagnosis and tailor your treatment plan to your current needs.
