I uniquely combine my education, training, and practical experiences into specialized treatment plans. I typically offer this in conjunction with supportive or emotionally focused therapy in 30-minute follow-up visits. Occasionally, I may believe that additional therapy is also needed and ask that you bring a therapist into your care team to provide the best outcome. I specialize in the evaluation and management of major psychiatric disorders, including depression and anxiety.

I am a board-certified psychiatrist who completed my psychiatry residency training program at Nassau University Medical Center in Long Island, NY.

A story I came across years back still inspires me each day. A man was taking a morning walk at the beach. He saw that along with the morning tide came hundreds of starfish. When the tide receded, the starfish were left behind and would die in the morning sun. While the tide was fresh and the starfish were alive, the man took a few steps, picked one up, and threw it into the water, and continued throwing starfish back into the ocean. Behind him was a stranger who couldn't understand what this man was doing. He caught up with him and asked, "What are you doing? There are hundreds of starfish. How many can you help? What difference does it make?" The man did not reply; rather, he took two more steps, picked up another one, threw it into the water, and said, "It makes a difference to this one." With this story as my motivation and ultimate objective, it has always been my goal, with each patient, to provide superior services.

My goal is to create a safe, judgment-free space where you will feel comfortable and heard. I understand that having a strong therapeutic alliance is equally as important as accurate diagnosing and medication management. I strongly believe in a patient-centered model, in which medical decision-making is driven by patient preferences. My job is to empower patients to make informed decisions regarding their mental health. While working together, I will get to know you and will be open to you sharing as much or as little about yourself as you would like.

I was born and raised in Charleston, SC. I attended the College of Charleston for undergraduate studies, where I double majored in Psychology and Spanish. I then completed medical school, General Psychiatry Residency, and Addiction Psychiatry Fellowship at the Medical University of South Carolina. I am the first member of my family to become a physician. My passion for mental health and my desire to help others are what paved the way for me to become a well-trained and highly motivated psychiatrist.

My practice primarily focuses on medication management, though I use a holistic approach in developing individualized treatment plans. I typically incorporate elements of various psychotherapy modalities, including supportive, cognitive behavioral (CBT), dialectical behavioral (DBT), and insight-oriented therapy, in 30- or 45-minute follow-up visits. Occasionally, I may believe that more intensive therapy is needed and recommend that you bring a dedicated therapist into your care team for an optimal outcome. I aim to provide mental health care that helps patients live more fulfilling lives.

I am a board-certified adult psychiatrist. I received my medical doctorate degree from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School and completed my residency training in general psychiatry at the University of Michigan. During my training, I gained extensive experience treating psychiatric disorders in diverse populations, including college students, LGBTQ+ individuals, perinatal women, veterans, and those with socioeconomic disadvantages. I have worked with experts on cases of treatment-resistant depression and provided consultations for patients considering procedural interventions, such as transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), electroconvulsive therapy (ECT), and ketamine infusion therapy.

I currently serve as an outpatient child and adolescent psychiatrist. My practice is primarily medication-management services, offered in conjunction with either supportive or eclectic therapy. Follow-up appointments average 30 minutes, but may be more or less. Occasionally, I believe the addition of a therapist is needed and will request that you bring a therapist into your care team. This will be asked of individuals if I believe it will lead to an improved clinical outcome.

I received my medical degree from Boonshoft School of Medicine at Wright State University, located in Dayton, OH. I completed my psychiatry residency and child-and-adolescent fellowship at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, in Hanover, NH. I completed my undergraduate studies at Ohio University.

After completing my training, I moved to Brattleboro, VT, where I became an attending psychiatrist at The Brattleboro Retreat, working on both the child and adolescent inpatient units. The Brattleboro Retreat's location was such that it served a large number of patients from nearby states, including New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and New York, while also serving as the only psychiatric inpatient facility for children and adolescents in the entire state of Vermont. I also worked as the lead psychiatrist on the inpatient, adult, dual-diagnosis unit, which provided care for individuals struggling with addiction and mental-health related issues, some of whom required medically supervised detoxification.

After roughly five years, I moved from Vermont to Erie, PA, where I began working at a residential treatment facility for child and adolescent patients who required care in a highly supervised and highly structured setting. I also began serving as a child and adolescent psychiatrist for patients enrolled in a school-based partial-hospitalization program. I gradually transitioned from these roles into strictly outpatient work, treating child, adolescent, and adult patients in Butler, PA, before eventually narrowing my scope of practice to providing psychiatric treatment for only outpatient children and adolescents, out of facilities located in Erie and Meadville, PA.

While I have experience treating a wide variety of patients, my primary focus has been treating children and adolescents with a vast array of presenting concerns.

My approach is rooted in a collaborative treatment model. I work closely with patients, exploring past and current stressors and any relevant medical conditions to develop a comprehensive understanding of their individual needs. Recognizing the importance of cultural competency, I incorporate patients' unique backgrounds, beliefs, and core values into their care plans. In my practice, I employ supportive psychotherapy and mindfulness along with evidence-based medication management, utilizing the most current clinical guidelines and treatment modalities.

I am an adult psychiatrist at Talkiatry. I treat all adults, and my passion lies in providing accessible care for women facing challenges throughout pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum and in reproductive psychiatry. My academic background is rooted in science, with an undergraduate degree in biochemistry and molecular biology from the University of California, Merced. I then pursued my medical doctorate at the Medical University of the Americas. Following medical school, I completed my psychiatry residency training. The first two years were spent at East Carolina University, Brody School of Medicine, with a culmination of my last two years of residency at Allegheny Health Network in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to further specialize in women's mental health, which solidified my expertise in this vital area.

At Allegheny Health Network's Women's Behavioral Health clinic, I honed my skills in treating a range of conditions, including depression, anxiety, PTSD, OCD, bipolar disorder, and related issues, and served as a medical provider for their intensive perinatal/postpartum outpatient clinic. I also developed a deep understanding of perinatal mental health, supporting patients coping with perinatal loss and traumatic birthing experiences.

I emphasize a patient-centered approach and believe that best treatment outcomes result from a strong therapeutic relationship between a patient and a psychiatrist. I am a board-certified psychiatrist. I obtained my bachelor's degree from Tufts University, where I double majored in Biopsychology and Art History. I focus on compassionate, evidence-based care that integrates psychotherapy and psychotropic medications to promote recovery and growth. My collaborative and respectful style ensures patients feel heard while working toward meaningful goals. I emphasize setting clear expectations from the start to foster confidence and engagement. With my background in consultation-liaison psychiatry, I bring expertise in caring for individuals managing psychiatric conditions alongside significant medical illness.

The first appointment is a comprehensive evaluation, during which I carefully explore a patient's history, conditions, and symptoms. Based on this, I develop a personalized treatment plan and review it collaboratively, so expectations are clear. Future visits focus on monitoring progress, adjusting the plan as needed, and integrating both psychotherapy and medication management to best support the patient's needs and long-term growth.

I earned my medical degree from Ponce Health Sciences University, where I also served as Chief Resident in Psychiatry. I completed residency training at Ponce Health Sciences University and the U.S. Veterans Health Administration, Caribbean Healthcare System, followed by a Fellowship in Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry at Montefiore Medical Center, Albert Einstein College of Medicine. I am board-certified in both Psychiatry and Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry. I have served as Director of Psychiatry at the Roberto Clemente Center and Clinical Assistant Professor at NYU Grossman School of Medicine. I am bilingual in Spanish and bicultural, with published research in cultural psychiatry and stress biology, and have been recognized for teaching and leadership.

FAQs

How does Talkiatry work?

Talkiatry is an online psychiatry practice designed to make high-quality mental health care more accessible. We’re 100% virtual, in-network with major insurance plans, and first appointments are typically available in days.

To get started, you’ll complete a quick online assessment to tell us what you’re looking for. We’ll match you with psychiatrists who are licensed in your state, in-network with your insurance, and experienced in treating your concerns. You’ll choose the clinician you’d like to work with.

Your first visit is an in-depth evaluation where your psychiatrist will listen, provide a diagnosis, and work with you to create a treatment plan tailored to your goals and preferences. You’ll continue seeing the same clinician over time, adjusting your plan as your needs evolve. Our team is always here to help with scheduling, insurance, and questions about your care.

Do you provide therapy?

Care at Talkiatry starts with psychiatry. If you already have a Talkiatry psychiatrist, they can refer you to one of our therapists if you’ve decided together that therapy is the right next step. However, you can’t see a Talkiatry therapist if you aren’t already seeing one of our psychiatrists.

What should I do if I’m having an emergency?

Talkiatry does not provide emergency care. If you or someone you know is in crisis, please visit your nearest emergency room, call 911, or call or text the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline at 988.

How much will my visit cost?

The majority of our visits cost patients $25 or less after insurance*, but your exact out-of-pocket cost depends on your plan. The best way to get a clear estimate is to contact your insurance provider directly. Here’s what to ask them:

  • Do I have mental health benefits that include outpatient psychiatry?
  • Is Talkiatry in-network for my plan?
  • What’s my copay or coinsurance for outpatient psychiatry visits?
  • Do I have a deductible? If so, how close am I to meeting it?
  • Do I have an out-of-pocket maximum? If so, how close am I to reaching it?
  • Are virtual or telehealth psychiatry visits covered the same as in-person care?
  • Is prior authorization required for outpatient psychiatry?
  • Can you provide a cost estimate for an in-network psychiatry visit using CPT code 99204?
  • Can you provide a cost estimate for an in-network psychotherapy visit using CPT code 90833?

*Includes all patient costs from 9/24-9/25: copayment, deductible, coinsurance, and $0 payments. Excludes missed appt. fees.  Your medical visit costs can vary depending on insurance coverage.

What if I don’t want to take medication?

Psychiatrists are medical doctors, and medication is often part of how they treat mental health conditions. At Talkiatry, your psychiatrist will start by listening and discussing your options with you. Medication is always your choice, but if it’s not something you’re open to considering, we may not be the best fit for ongoing care at this time.

How do I know if Talkiatry can help me?

Talkiatry provides virtual, in-network psychiatric care for people struggling with mild to moderate mental health issues. Here’s what we can help with:

  • Anxiety
  • ADHD (attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder)
  • Bipolar disorder
  • Child & adolescent care
  • Depression
  • OCD (obsessive-compulsive disorder)
  • Pregnancy & postpartum care
  • PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder)
  • Substance use disorder

Our goal is to connect you with the best possible care for you. At your first visit, your doctor will confirm whether Talkiatry is the right fit. If they recommend in-person or higher-level care, they’ll guide you to the appropriate resources.

What if my insurance changes from Cigna?

Insurance changes are common, and we’re here to help. Talkiatry is in-network with thousands of plans. If your insurance changes, reach out to a Care Coordinator to update your information and confirm your coverage by calling 833-351-TALK (8255).

Do I still take the assessment if I’m already diagnosed with anxiety?

Yes. Our online assessment is an important part of how we match you with the right psychiatrist. Your first visit will include a thorough evaluation so your psychiatrist can confirm your diagnosis and tailor your treatment plan to your current needs.
