I am a board-certified psychiatrist dedicated to the bio-psycho-sociocultural model. This has been reflected in my pursuit of treating patients suffering from diverse medical and psychiatric conditions, respective psychological mindedness, and varied socio-economic and cultural backgrounds. I am fascinated by the human mind, its mechanisms to pursue goals, and the cyclical patterns seen in maladaptation and suffering. I believe in understanding patients' experiences and developing comprehensive treatment plans towards reconciliation. I honor active listening, analytic understanding, supportive psychotherapy techniques, and evidence-based and methodological treatment for patient care and actualization. My goal is to assist patients in navigating short- and long-term goals as well as improved quality of life. I focus on medication management, offered in conjunction with supportive therapy, in 1-hour initial and 30-minute follow-up visits. I believe that appropriate patients can benefit from additional exploratory and self-actualizing therapy from other valued and specialized therapists to support targeted goals, and I will not hesitate to recommend and promote consultations with therapists for such patients who are ready to pursue. Ultimately, I seek to understand, validate, and treat patients in a collaborative therapeutic alliance.

I completed my medical education at the East Carolina Brody School of Medicine as a Brody Scholar, and subsequently completed psychiatry residency at Jackson Health System/University of Miami. I have had the opportunity to work with a diverse array of patients including high-functioning patients, veterans, trafficking victims, the severely mentally ill of low socio-economic status, and cancer patients across three distinct hospital systems via telemedicine and face-to-face interactions. My experience includes working with patients suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder, adjustment disorder, mood disorders, generalized anxiety disorder, panic disorder, and more.

My practice focuses on medication management, offered in conjunction with emotionally focused therapy in 30-minute follow-up visits. Occasionally, I may believe that additional therapy is also needed and ask that you bring a therapist into your care team to provide the best outcome. I strongly believe in a compassionate, collaborative approach and will provide psychoeducation to help patients make informed decisions and achieve their treatment goals.

My practice primarily focuses on medication management, though I use a holistic approach in developing individualized treatment plans. I typically incorporate elements of various psychotherapy modalities, including supportive, cognitive behavioral (CBT), dialectical behavioral (DBT), and insight-oriented therapy, in 30- or 45-minute follow-up visits. Occasionally, I may believe that more intensive therapy is needed and recommend that you bring a dedicated therapist into your care team for an optimal outcome. I aim to provide mental health care that helps patients live more fulfilling lives.

I am a board-certified adult psychiatrist. I received my medical doctorate degree from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School and completed my residency training in general psychiatry at the University of Michigan. During my training, I gained extensive experience treating psychiatric disorders in diverse populations, including college students, LGBTQ+ individuals, perinatal women, veterans, and those with socioeconomic disadvantages. I have worked with experts on cases of treatment-resistant depression and provided consultations for patients considering procedural interventions, such as transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), electroconvulsive therapy (ECT), and ketamine infusion therapy.

I offer individualized, well-rounded care blending medication and psychotherapy. In a safe, supportive, and non-judgmental space, I partner with patients to foster greater insight into themselves, walking alongside them with compassion in their mental health journey.

I am board-certified in adult psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and focus my practice on medication management. I also engage in supportive therapy in a comprehensive way, focusing on the patient as a whole and not just the symptoms. I have a broad understanding of vitamin support as an adjunctive treatment to traditional medication, and I have broadened my understanding of second-line treatment, having been certified in Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT), conducting clinics in Clozapine and Long-Acting Antipsychotics (LOA), and conducting assessments for patients interested in weight loss surgery. My approach to treatment is comprehensive, and I may consider the addition of therapy, either by referral or by collaborating with an existing therapist, for a more rounded approach and improved outcome. My current areas of focus are adults with Mood Disorders, Anxiety, Co-Occurring Substance disorders, as well as patients with varied concomitant medical problems.

I received my medical degree from the Universidad Central del Caribe, located in Bayamon, Puerto Rico. Upon graduation, I relocated to Philadelphia, where I completed my residency program at Einstein Medical Center. After completing my training, I worked for 8 years in a community mental health clinic, treating an underserved population in all modalities of psychiatric care. Over my 12-year career, I have treated both adult males and females, including seniors, which has led to varied and wide-ranging diagnoses. After leaving the community clinic setting, I began working for an outpatient clinic in a suburb of Philadelphia.

I value patient education and shared decision-making. I foster a nonjudgmental environment where patients feel heard and supported, working collaboratively to develop a treatment plan that fits their goals and needs. I begin with a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation and partner with each patient to create an individualized treatment plan that aligns with their values and evidence-based care. My approach often combines medication management with psychotherapeutic modalities.

I have experience practicing in both outpatient and inpatient psychiatric settings. I earned my medical degree from the Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell and completed my psychiatry residency at Zucker SOM at Mather Hospital.

I begin each encounter with gentle curiosity, inviting patients to share their stories without fear of judgment. Together, I craft an individualized treatment plan with the patient that may include medication, psychotherapy, and/or referrals to subspecialty care, always in close collaboration with other members on the treatment team. My therapeutic orientation is informed by psychodynamic, cognitive behavioral, and dialectical behavior modalities. I have expertise in the treatment of a diverse range of mental health conditions, including depression, anxiety, OCD, and PTSD. I use a developmentally informed and LGBTQ-affirmative approach in my practice, with the aim of enriching meaning and alleviating suffering in the domains of work, play, and love.

I am a board-certified psychiatrist. I earned my undergraduate degrees in Psychology and Biological Sciences at the University of Maryland, where I also obtained my medical degree. I completed my psychiatry residency at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, received additional training in child and adolescent psychiatry at Columbia and Cornell, and finished a psychoanalytic fellowship at the New York Psychoanalytic Society & Institute. Prior to joining Talkiatry, I was an Assistant Professor of Clinical Psychiatry at the University of Pennsylvania, where I provided clinical care and teaching along the undergraduate-graduate medical education continuum.

My primary focus is treating adult outpatients with mood or psychotic disorders, though I have treated a wide range of adult patients throughout my career. On occasion, I will determine that additional therapy is also needed and ask that you bring a therapist into your care team to provide the best outcome.

I am board-certified in Adult Psychiatry and have been practicing for over 25 years. I completed my undergraduate studies at Tufts University, received my medical degree from Temple University School of Medicine in Philadelphia, PA, and continued with Temple for my residency in adult psychiatry. I am a board-certified psychiatrist who practices general adult psychiatry, with a special interest in managing depression, anxiety, OCD, and ADHD. I place special emphasis on a triple-pronged approach to treating conditions, using medication, therapy, and lifestyle guidance. I enjoy building a therapeutic relationship with my patients, and I value longer-term continuity of care when appropriate. I recognize that psychiatric conditions can hinder someone from enjoying their life in a way that they otherwise could, and my focus is on helping my patients obtain more happiness, while reducing frustration/pain.

I attended Calvin College for my Bachelor's Degree and Michigan State University College of Human Medicine for my Medical Degree. I then completed my Residency in Psychiatry at Ohio State University. After spending six months serving the prison population, I am back to doing what I find most rewarding, which is one-on-one outpatient psychiatry.

I have always believed that medication must be used in conjunction with psychodynamic therapy, and medical and social supports to most appropriately treat a patient. I offer 30-minute sessions consisting of medication management and brief therapeutic support. I specialize in treating victims of trauma and medical comorbidity.

I am board certified in adult psychiatry and completed fellowship training in Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry (Psychosomatic Medicine). I have been practicing psychiatry since 2006. I completed my medical degree at Drexel University School of Medicine in Philadelphia, PA, my psychiatric residency at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, PA, and my consultation/liaison psychiatric fellowship at Long Island Jewish Hospital in Queens, NY. I continued to work in Consultation Liaison Psychiatry at North Shore Hospital in NY, before working for nine years at Philadelphia Veterans Administration Hospital as a staff psychiatrist and associate at the University of Pennsylvania University Hospital. During this time, I worked closely with patients struggling with Traumatic Brain Injury, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Depression, and Anxiety, and I served as an attending psychiatrist in training medical students, psychiatric residents, and fellows. Following a move to New Zealand, I worked as lead psychiatrist for Te Puna Waiora, Maori Mental Health team (Indigenous Person mental health clinic) at Counties Manakau District Health Board. I worked with multiple patients facing cultural challenges, as well as psychosocial stressors including poverty, family fragmentation, and poor education. During this time, I worked within the indigenous system of mental health, which treats not just emotional or physical issues for a person, but spiritual and familial as well. I have incorporated this into my treatment approach for all patients.

I favor a holistic and integrative approach to psychiatry, combining medication management with supportive therapy and elements of cognitive behavioral therapy, while remaining open to other treatment modalities depending on the needs of my patients. When more focused therapy is indicated, I may recommend that my patient work with a provider specializing in a particular modality of therapy as part of their treatment. I treat adult patients with mood disorders including major depressive disorder and bipolar disorder, anxiety spectrum disorders, OCD, PTSD, and specific phobias.

I began my practice at Talkiatry after completing my psychiatry residency at the Eastern Long Island branch of Stony Brook University, where I treated a diverse patient population. I received my undergraduate degree from St. John's University in Queens, where I studied Philosophy. Initially interested in a career in law, I decided to change gears and pursue a career in medicine after watching a relative struggle with her diagnosis of Diabetes Mellitus. I then completed medical school at Tel Aviv University in Israel, where I fell in love with psychiatry during my clerkship at Ichilov Medical Center. During that rotation, I came to appreciate how each patient has his or her own unique story, regardless of their diagnosis.

In my spare time, I enjoy a variety of hobbies, including Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, running, baseball, and exploring new eateries and shops.

FAQs

How does Talkiatry work?

Talkiatry is an online psychiatry practice designed to make high-quality mental health care more accessible. We’re 100% virtual, in-network with major insurance plans, and first appointments are typically available in days.

To get started, you’ll complete a quick online assessment to tell us what you’re looking for. We’ll match you with psychiatrists who are licensed in your state, in-network with your insurance, and experienced in treating your concerns. You’ll choose the clinician you’d like to work with.

Your first visit is an in-depth evaluation where your psychiatrist will listen, provide a diagnosis, and work with you to create a treatment plan tailored to your goals and preferences. You’ll continue seeing the same clinician over time, adjusting your plan as your needs evolve. Our team is always here to help with scheduling, insurance, and questions about your care.

Do you provide therapy?

Care at Talkiatry starts with psychiatry. If you already have a Talkiatry psychiatrist, they can refer you to one of our therapists if you’ve decided together that therapy is the right next step. However, you can’t see a Talkiatry therapist if you aren’t already seeing one of our psychiatrists.

What should I do if I’m having an emergency?

Talkiatry does not provide emergency care. If you or someone you know is in crisis, please visit your nearest emergency room, call 911, or call or text the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline at 988.

How much will my visit cost?

The majority of our visits cost patients $25 or less after insurance*, but your exact out-of-pocket cost depends on your plan. The best way to get a clear estimate is to contact your insurance provider directly. Here’s what to ask them:

  • Do I have mental health benefits that include outpatient psychiatry?
  • Is Talkiatry in-network for my plan?
  • What’s my copay or coinsurance for outpatient psychiatry visits?
  • Do I have a deductible? If so, how close am I to meeting it?
  • Do I have an out-of-pocket maximum? If so, how close am I to reaching it?
  • Are virtual or telehealth psychiatry visits covered the same as in-person care?
  • Is prior authorization required for outpatient psychiatry?
  • Can you provide a cost estimate for an in-network psychiatry visit using CPT code 99204?
  • Can you provide a cost estimate for an in-network psychotherapy visit using CPT code 90833?

*Includes all patient costs from 9/24-9/25: copayment, deductible, coinsurance, and $0 payments. Excludes missed appt. fees.  Your medical visit costs can vary depending on insurance coverage.

What if I don’t want to take medication?

Psychiatrists are medical doctors, and medication is often part of how they treat mental health conditions. At Talkiatry, your psychiatrist will start by listening and discussing your options with you. Medication is always your choice, but if it’s not something you’re open to considering, we may not be the best fit for ongoing care at this time.

How do I know if Talkiatry can help me?

Talkiatry provides virtual, in-network psychiatric care for people struggling with mild to moderate mental health issues. Here’s what we can help with:

  • Anxiety
  • ADHD (attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder)
  • Bipolar disorder
  • Child & adolescent care
  • Depression
  • OCD (obsessive-compulsive disorder)
  • Pregnancy & postpartum care
  • PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder)
  • Substance use disorder

Our goal is to connect you with the best possible care for you. At your first visit, your doctor will confirm whether Talkiatry is the right fit. If they recommend in-person or higher-level care, they’ll guide you to the appropriate resources.

What if my insurance changes from United Healthcare?

Insurance changes are common, and we’re here to help. Talkiatry is in-network with thousands of plans. If your insurance changes, reach out to a Care Coordinator to update your information and confirm your coverage by calling 833-351-TALK (8255).

Do I still take the assessment if I’m already diagnosed with anxiety?

Yes. Our online assessment is an important part of how we match you with the right psychiatrist. Your first visit will include a thorough evaluation so your psychiatrist can confirm your diagnosis and tailor your treatment plan to your current needs.
