Believing that each patient is more than a diagnosis, I take a personalized approach, collaborating closely with individuals to develop tailored treatment plans. I view myself as an advisor and facilitator, empowering patients to take charge of their recovery. My areas of focus include ADHD (Focus & Cognitive Function), Anxiety & Depression (Mood, Sleep, & Energy Concerns), and Stress & Brain Fog (Cognitive & Emotional Well-Being).

I am a highly experienced psychiatrist and medical doctor with dual specialties in psychiatry and primary care medicine. My comprehensive approach integrates both disciplines, allowing me to address mental health concerns with a deep understanding of their medical and psychological aspects. I earned my Doctor of Medicine (MD) from Southern Illinois University School of Medicine and pursued advanced training at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Harvard University, and Georgetown University Medical Center. I am Board-Certified in General Psychiatry and Fellowship-Trained in Forensic Psychiatry and Occupational Medicine, equipping me with the expertise to diagnose and treat a broad spectrum of mental health conditions, considering both medical and psychiatric factors.

I am an experienced, compassionate, and dedicated advocate for my patients' mental and physical health. I strongly believe in a collaborative, patient-centered approach to treatment, helping individuals achieve their personal and professional goals. Guided by the ethos, "Treat them like you would your own family," I am dedicated to providing compassionate, high-quality care.

Committed to a well-balanced life, I am married and have two married daughters, two grandsons, and three dogs. My wife, a clinical psychologist, helps ground my therapeutic approach, emphasizing the importance of integrating therapy with medication to enhance overall well-being.

I am a board-certified adult psychiatrist who joined Talkiatry after completing my psychiatry residency. I provide patient-centered care and understand the importance of actively involving patients in their treatment journey. I believe that every patient deserves personalized care tailored to their unique needs and circumstances. I approach each patient with empathy and understanding, fostering a supportive and nonjudgmental environment.

I completed my undergraduate training at The University of Texas at Austin and pursued my medical degree at The University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. I also graduated with a Master's in Public Health from Columbia University in New York. I went on to complete my general adult psychiatry training at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston.

I am an adult psychiatrist who prioritizes understanding my patients by first listening to their stories. I collaborate with them to develop both pharmacological and non-pharmacological solutions aimed at improving their functionality. I emphasize that functioning better often leads to feeling better. Whenever possible, I approach treatment within the context of the family system surrounding the individual.

Raised in South Carolina, and now a resident of Florida, my wife of 31 years and I have six children. I enjoy outdoor activities and team sports and am an avid fan of Tolkien and C.S. Lewis. I at times incorporate analogies from their works into therapy if appropriate.

My goal when working with patients is to not come to a generic diagnosis; rather, it is to get to know about the client and try and manage their symptoms in the best way possible. Overall, the process is collaborative, and both parties need to be comfortable with the decisions moving forward. I enjoy getting to learn about patients and working collaboratively to provide the best treatment possible, be it medications or talk therapy. I have vast experience treating Major Depressive Disorder, Bipolar Disorder, PTSD, among many others.

I graduated residency from University Hospitals/Case Western Reserve University in 2015. After residency, I worked at the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center as a staff psychiatrist. I eventually took on the role of Mental Health Lead Psychiatrist and Interim Clinic Director at the Tomball VA Outpatient Clinic. I then transferred to a telepsychiatry role at VISN 15, providing mental health coverage for rural areas in Kansas, Missouri, and Illinois. I have over 15 years of experience in treating different mental health conditions and am currently board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.

I reside in Houston, Texas and enjoy spending time with my family, being outdoors, and watching/playing sports such as Football, Basketball, and Soccer.

I became a psychiatrist with one mission: to provide compassionate, high-quality mental health care accessible to anyone, anywhere. My approach emphasizes that patients are more than a diagnosis, focusing on the whole person, their story, struggles, and strengths. I partner with patients to create individualized therapeutic plans that may include medication management and holistic strategies. My goal is to promote mood stability, balance emotions, reduce anxiety, quiet overwhelming thoughts, resolve interpersonal conflicts, and strengthen resilience. I believe healing is best achieved through collaboration, open dialogue, and empowering patients to make informed choices about their care.

I am committed to meeting patients where they feel most comfortable, whether at home, work, or elsewhere. I offer the same compassion, attentiveness, and expertise as in-person care while removing barriers like travel, time constraints, and distance.

Originally from Pakistan, I pursued my undergraduate degree at Benedictine University in Illinois, medical school at Des Moines University in Iowa, and psychiatry residency at Trinity Health Livonia Hospital/Wayne State University in Michigan. I have experience in inpatient, outpatient, forensic, and community mental health settings.

I place a strong emphasis on establishing trust and building therapeutic relationships to help patients achieve their goals. My practice focuses on medication management, often combined with supportive or emotionally focused therapy during 30-minute follow-up visits. If I believe additional therapy would be beneficial, I may recommend that patients work with a therapist as part of their care team. I have extensive experience treating patients in various settings, including community mental health centers, VAMC-affiliated clinics, and hospital-based psychiatric units. I also have expertise in psychiatric consultations for medically ill patients, as well as guardianship and competency evaluations.

Patients can expect a thorough initial evaluation, where I take the time to understand their symptoms, history, and treatment goals. I provide a structured yet compassionate approach to care, ensuring that each patient feels heard and supported. Follow-up visits typically last 30 minutes, during which I monitor progress and adjust treatment as necessary. If additional therapy is needed, I collaborate with therapists to ensure comprehensive care tailored to each patient's needs.

I primarily focus on medication management for general psychiatric conditions. My approach is individualized, ensuring that each patient receives a treatment plan tailored to their unique needs. I integrate supportive therapy, medications, and evidence-based alternative therapies to provide a flexible and comprehensive approach. In addition to my general practice, I maintain a psychodynamic psychotherapy panel where I help patients explore developmental and relational patterns that contribute to their symptoms. My specialties include treating depression, anxiety, adjustment disorders, PTSD, insomnia, bipolar disorder, and ADHD.

I am a board-certified psychiatrist. I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology from the University of Colorado at Boulder and went on to obtain a master's degree in Medical Science from Loyola University Chicago. I completed my medical training at the Robert Larner, M.D. College of Medicine at The University of Vermont and returned to Colorado for my psychiatry residency at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. While in residency, I specialized in the Psychotherapy Scholars Program and have since gained four years of experience treating psychiatric conditions through telehealth.

During the first visit, patients can expect a one-hour comprehensive intake during which I thoroughly evaluate their symptoms, medical history, and personal goals. I provide treatment options that prioritize flexibility, allowing patients to take an active role in their care. Follow-up visits typically last 20 to 30 minutes, focusing on assessing treatment progress and making necessary adjustments. For those engaged in psychodynamic psychotherapy, longer one-hour sessions are available for in-depth exploration of underlying psychological patterns.

I am a board-certified adult psychiatrist. From traditional psychodynamic therapy to the more modern mindfulness-based dialectical behavior therapy, I take the approach that best serves my patients. In addition to being trained in a variety of therapies, I also employ a positive psychiatry approach which, as well as addressing a patient's symptoms, also focuses on their strengths and how they can be used to overcome adversity.

I completed my residency at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Tyler. In addition to being thoroughly trained in psychopharmacology, I have also received extensive training in psychotherapy.

Prior to pursuing a career in psychiatry, I was a high school math teacher, and prior to that, I was an NCAA Division I college athlete. My teaching and athletic careers have given me a well-rounded perspective on the human experience. Drawing on my academic training and life experiences, I meet patients where they are at, help them overcome their obstacles, and serve as a guide and a resource for them on their journey to their desired destination.

FAQs

How does Talkiatry work?

Talkiatry is an online psychiatry practice designed to make high-quality mental health care more accessible. We’re 100% virtual, in-network with major insurance plans, and first appointments are typically available in days.

To get started, you’ll complete a quick online assessment to tell us what you’re looking for. We’ll match you with psychiatrists who are licensed in your state, in-network with your insurance, and experienced in treating your concerns. You’ll choose the clinician you’d like to work with.

Your first visit is an in-depth evaluation where your psychiatrist will listen, provide a diagnosis, and work with you to create a treatment plan tailored to your goals and preferences. You’ll continue seeing the same clinician over time, adjusting your plan as your needs evolve. Our team is always here to help with scheduling, insurance, and questions about your care.

Do you provide therapy?

Care at Talkiatry starts with psychiatry. If you already have a Talkiatry psychiatrist, they can refer you to one of our therapists if you’ve decided together that therapy is the right next step. However, you can’t see a Talkiatry therapist if you aren’t already seeing one of our psychiatrists.

What should I do if I’m having an emergency?

Talkiatry does not provide emergency care. If you or someone you know is in crisis, please visit your nearest emergency room, call 911, or call or text the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline at 988.

How much will my visit cost?

The majority of our visits cost patients $25 or less after insurance*, but your exact out-of-pocket cost depends on your plan. The best way to get a clear estimate is to contact your insurance provider directly. Here’s what to ask them:

  • Do I have mental health benefits that include outpatient psychiatry?
  • Is Talkiatry in-network for my plan?
  • What’s my copay or coinsurance for outpatient psychiatry visits?
  • Do I have a deductible? If so, how close am I to meeting it?
  • Do I have an out-of-pocket maximum? If so, how close am I to reaching it?
  • Are virtual or telehealth psychiatry visits covered the same as in-person care?
  • Is prior authorization required for outpatient psychiatry?
  • Can you provide a cost estimate for an in-network psychiatry visit using CPT code 99204?
  • Can you provide a cost estimate for an in-network psychotherapy visit using CPT code 90833?

*Includes all patient costs from 9/24-9/25: copayment, deductible, coinsurance, and $0 payments. Excludes missed appt. fees.  Your medical visit costs can vary depending on insurance coverage.

What if I don’t want to take medication?

Psychiatrists are medical doctors, and medication is often part of how they treat mental health conditions. At Talkiatry, your psychiatrist will start by listening and discussing your options with you. Medication is always your choice, but if it’s not something you’re open to considering, we may not be the best fit for ongoing care at this time.

How do I know if Talkiatry can help me?

Talkiatry provides virtual, in-network psychiatric care for people struggling with mild to moderate mental health issues. Here’s what we can help with:

  • Anxiety
  • ADHD (attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder)
  • Bipolar disorder
  • Child & adolescent care
  • Depression
  • OCD (obsessive-compulsive disorder)
  • Pregnancy & postpartum care
  • PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder)
  • Substance use disorder

Our goal is to connect you with the best possible care for you. At your first visit, your doctor will confirm whether Talkiatry is the right fit. If they recommend in-person or higher-level care, they’ll guide you to the appropriate resources.

What if my insurance changes from Cigna?

Insurance changes are common, and we’re here to help. Talkiatry is in-network with thousands of plans. If your insurance changes, reach out to a Care Coordinator to update your information and confirm your coverage by calling 833-351-TALK (8255).

Do I still take the assessment if I’m already diagnosed with ADHD?

Yes. Our online assessment is an important part of how we match you with the right psychiatrist. Your first visit will include a thorough evaluation so your psychiatrist can confirm your diagnosis and tailor your treatment plan to your current needs.
