My practice focuses on medication management, and I utilize a systematic approach to ensure diagnoses are accurate and treatment plans are optimized to each individual patient. My approach is also holistic in nature, often incorporating therapy and lifestyle modification into the treatment plan. I employ multiple therapeutic approaches depending on the needs of the patient, including supportive therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). I place great emphasis on psychoeducation so that patients are aware of the nature and prognosis of their conditions as well as the treatment options available. In addition, I also assist patients with tapering medications if they are not necessary. When multiple treatment options are reasonable, I take patient preference into account, offering flexibility to the patient experience. I treat a variety of psychiatric disorders with a particular focus on mood disorders, anxiety disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and trauma-related disorders.

I am a board-certified staff psychiatrist who treats adult patients. A former engineer, I have developed a passion for guiding patients along the road to recovery. I completed my undergraduate studies at The University of Texas at Austin and later completed medical school and residency in General Psychiatry at The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston.

Please note: I do not prescribe long-term, daily benzodiazepines or Z-drugs; however, I am happy to help you taper off these medications and transition to a safer, long-term medication regimen. I do not prescribe controlled substances if there is any illicit substance use, cannabis or THC product use, or concerning alcohol use, and I may refer to an alternate level of care for substance use disorder treatment if I determine it is clinically indicated.

In addition, for the primary concern of difficulty with concentration or inattention, I obtain a thorough history, screen for mental health conditions that may be contributing, order labs to screen for other contributing causes, order an electrocardiogram or refer to a cardiologist if clinically indicated, and advise the patient to have a family member present if possible to clarify history of symptoms. It may take several visits for me to have a full picture to make a fully informed diagnosis and recommendation. I do not prescribe stimulant medication unless determined to be clearly clinically indicated and safe to prescribe, vitals (height, weight, blood pressure, and pulse) are provided, and workup is completed.

I bring a deeply analytical and research-driven approach to psychiatry, integrating traditional psychiatric treatment with Jungian analysis. I have a strong background in academic research and clinical psychiatry, contributing extensively to the field through research publications. My expertise spans a wide range of mental health challenges, and I am committed to understanding the complexities of each patient's experience to tailor a treatment plan that best suits their needs.

I am a board-certified psychiatrist and a graduate of Harvard College. I earned my medical degree from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School and completed my psychiatry training at the University of California at San Francisco. I further specialized through a research fellowship with the American Psychiatric Association. In addition to my clinical work, I am a Jungian Analyst and hold academic positions as an adjunct professor at Rutgers University Department of Psychiatry and as the Frank McMillan Jr. Scholar at the Jung Center of Houston.

During the first visit, patients can expect a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation that takes into account their personal history, psychological patterns, and treatment goals. My approach emphasizes thoughtful analysis and evidence-based care, ensuring that each patient receives a personalized and insightful treatment plan. Sessions may incorporate medication management, psychotherapy, and Jungian analytical techniques to provide a holistic and individualized treatment experience.

My style is warm, curious, and collaborative. I emphasize understanding each individual in the context of their psychosocial development, life experiences, and cultural and societal stressors. I believe mental health cannot be separated from the challenges faced at school, work, within families, and in society at large. I listen carefully, ensuring patients and families feel understood, and work together to create practical, personalized treatment plans. I integrate psychopharmacology with therapy, coping strategies, and resilience-building, aiming for patients to feel supported, empowered, and actively engaged in care that evolves with their needs.

I am a dual board-certified psychiatrist with subspecialty certification in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. I completed my fellowship at Washington University in St. Louis, where I also served as Chief Fellow, and my general psychiatry residency at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Tyler. Over the past year, I have provided telehealth psychiatric consultations across emergency rooms and inpatient settings, gaining extensive experience across state hospitals, outpatient clinics, college mental health, preschool, mood disorder, and community health clinics.

I specialize in medication management, working primarily with adult patients in an outpatient setting. While my primary focus is pharmacological treatment, I frequently collaborate with therapists to provide comprehensive care when indicated. I have extensive experience treating civilians, active-duty military personnel, and veterans, addressing conditions such as mood and anxiety disorders, psychosis, and trauma-related disorders.

I am a board-certified adult psychiatrist. I earned my medical degree from the University of Louisville School of Medicine in Louisville, KY. Following medical school, I entered active duty service in the U.S. Army, where I completed my psychiatry residency at Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu, HI. After completing my training, I practiced as a staff psychiatrist at Fort Hood, TX, fulfilling my service obligation.

During the first visit, patients can expect a thorough psychiatric evaluation where I take time to understand their history, symptoms, and treatment goals. I provide a structured yet compassionate approach to care, discussing medication options and potential therapeutic interventions. For patients who may benefit from additional therapy, I collaborate with therapists to ensure a well-rounded treatment plan tailored to each individual's needs.

Most of my work as a psychiatrist is with adults navigating PTSD, OCD, and the shifts that come with becoming a parent, including postpartum depression. I also spend time with people managing more complex patterns, like personality disorders, bipolar disorder, and anxiety that has quietly reshaped their daily lives. I trained in general adult psychiatry at Baylor College of Medicine, where I served as Chief Resident of Education in my final year, and I bring an analytical, problem-solving mindset to sorting out what's actually driving a person's symptoms.

I don't think good treatment can start until I understand someone fully, so the first visit is a thorough evaluation where I take my time with your history, your symptoms, and what you're actually hoping to change. Medication management is the foundation of what I do, but it's one piece of the picture, not the whole plan. Depending on what you need, I'll fold in supportive therapy or recommend adding a therapist so the care around you is well-rounded. I try to be transparent about my reasoning and to build decisions with you rather than hand them down, and I tend to look for the strengths already there to work from.

I especially find common ground with parents and caregivers trying to hold their own health steady while looking after everyone else. The first step is really just a conversation, and we sort out the direction together once I understand where you're starting from.

I am a board-certified psychiatrist. While I primarily focus on medication management, I understand that mental health often requires approaches from multiple perspectives. Psychodynamic and supportive therapies are offered on an as-needed basis in addition to medication management. New patients are provided 60 minutes for initial visits, and follow-ups are given 30 minutes.

I graduated from the University of North Carolina School of Medicine in Chapel Hill, NC, and completed my adult psychiatry residency training at Virginia Commonwealth University Health System in Richmond, VA. My training has positioned me to care for adults of all ages with a wide spectrum of mental health disorders and related conditions. During my residency, I sought out additional experience working with patients undergoing treatment for HIV, patients with trauma-related disorders, and the LGBTQ+ population.

I am a psychiatrist specializing in adult and maternal mental health. I develop personalized treatment plans to address anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, ADHD, OCD, PTSD, PMDD, and perinatal conditions. My goal is to help patients reconnect with their values and live balanced, fulfilled, and meaningful lives. I combine pharmacotherapy (medication) with psychotherapy to create individualized treatment plans. Therapy provides powerful tools to manage thoughts, emotions, and behaviors that support balanced brain chemistry, and research shows that medication helps restore this balance more quickly and effectively, especially in moderate to severe cases.

I liken medication for the brain to fertilizer for a garden. Imagine your mental health as a vibrant garden: when well-nourished, it can thrive with resilience, beauty, and balance. But when symptoms like depression, anxiety, ADHD, or mood instability take hold, they act like invasive weeds, crowding out healthy growth and making it hard to enjoy the space. Medication acts like fertilizer, strengthening the garden's natural systems so the healthy parts can reclaim their place and flourish. Just as some gardens need only seasonal care while others require more consistent tending, medication plans are personalized to support each person's long-term mental wellness. My approach emphasizes diagnostic clarity, medication management, patient education, and brief psychotherapy based on cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT). I believe patients should take an active role in understanding their diagnosis and treatment.

Your first appointment is a supportive, in-depth conversation to share your story, challenges, and goals. I will review your medical and psychiatric history and assess symptoms using a whole-person approach that considers biological, psychological, and social factors. Together, we will develop a personalized plan that may include lab work, medication, and therapy. Initial visits last 60 minutes for thorough evaluation; follow-ups typically last 20–30 minutes, focusing on medication management and brief therapy. If needed, I can refer you to in-house or community therapists for add-on therapy support. Throughout your care, I prioritize shared decision making to ensure you feel informed, empowered, and supported.

My passion for medicine began in childhood, inspired by curiosity about the mind and body. I earned an Honors Chemistry degree with magna cum laude and completed my medical training and psychiatry residency at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. With a strong scientific foundation, I understand the role of medications and embrace holistic healing through connection, gratitude, and spirituality. I have experience in diverse clinical settings and have received national awards including the AWP International Fellowship and ADMSEP Innovations Award. I am dedicated to advancing maternal mental health screening and treatment through clinical care and education.

I value ongoing patient input and strive to create a collaborative treatment environment where patients are actively involved in decision-making. I emphasize a warm, supportive approach that helps patients feel heard, respected, and understood throughout their care. I begin by developing a thorough understanding of each patient's psychiatric, medical, family, developmental, and substance use history, while also exploring the patient's concerns and goals. I then work collaboratively with the patient to develop an individualized treatment plan tailored to their unique needs and objectives.

I am a board-certified psychiatrist with experience across outpatient, inpatient, and emergency settings, including many years within the John Peter Smith Healthcare System. I have also practiced in federal correctional psychiatric settings and outpatient care through Tarrant County MHMR. I have been extensively involved in psychiatric education for medical students and psychiatry residents. I have participated in organized psychiatry for many years through the Texas Society of Psychiatric Physicians, serving on multiple committees and previously as President of the Texas Psychiatric Society. I earned my medical degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston and completed my psychiatry residency at Timberlawn Psychiatric Hospital in Dallas. My practice centers around treating the whole patient: mind, body, and spirit. I believe the judicious use of psychiatric medications, coupled with psychotherapy and alternative treatments such as meditation and yoga, can bring about transformative changes in the lives of those suffering from depression, anxiety, and other mental conditions and life issues. In addition to general adult psychiatry, I received extensive training in one of the nation's largest women's mood disorder programs at The University of North Carolina Chapel Hill and enjoy treating peripartum and postpartum mood and anxiety disorders. I am also well trained in addiction medicine and received additional training in buprenorphine use for opioid addiction.

I am a board-certified adult psychiatrist who has been in practice for over 10 years. I graduated with Honors in Psychology from The University of Florida, received my medical degree from The University of South Alabama School of Medicine, completed a clinical postdoctoral research fellowship at Boston University School of Medicine, and completed my Psychiatry residency training at The University of North Carolina. I am currently obtaining my MBA. After residency, I worked as a psychiatric hospitalist at Trident Medical Center in Charleston and have also worked in private practice. Most recently I served as Chief Medical Officer for an 80-bed psychiatric hospital, Coral Shores Behavioral Hospital in Stuart, FL. I have worked in inpatient units, private practice, and community mental health, as well as served as Chief Medical Officer of a large psychiatric hospital. I am a board-certified adult psychiatrist with over 14 years of experience, during which time I primarily treated active-duty US Navy sailors, their family members, and military retirees in the outpatient setting. My practice focuses on medication management in addition to supportive and cognitive-behavioral therapy in 30-minute follow-up visits. I am a strong advocate of multiple treatment modalities and, in certain situations, may suggest that therapy and/or regular physical exercise be included in your treatment plan to provide the best outcome.

I received my B.S. in Physics from the United States Naval Academy. After serving as an Intelligence Officer in the Navy for eight years, I transitioned to medicine and earned my medical degree from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, MD. After completing an intern year in Family Medicine, I completed residency training in Psychiatry at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, VA, where I remained on staff for the next ten years and was primarily involved in resident training and education. I held academic appointments at the Uniformed Services University and Eastern Virginia Medical School and served as the Psychiatry Residency Program Director for six years. I served my final four years in uniform running the behavioral health department at Naval Air Station Whidbey Island, WA, and recently retired from the Navy after a 30-year career.

I have extensive experience in outpatient psychiatric care. In addition to the full spectrum of mood and anxiety disorders, I have treated a very large number of patients with PTSD stemming from combat, natural disasters, and sexual trauma. I believe that, like my service to the country, working alongside others in their journey to better mental health is an incredible privilege.

FAQs

How does Talkiatry work?

Talkiatry is an online psychiatry practice designed to make high-quality mental health care more accessible. We’re 100% virtual, in-network with major insurance plans, and first appointments are typically available in days.

To get started, you’ll complete a quick online assessment to tell us what you’re looking for. We’ll match you with psychiatrists who are licensed in your state, in-network with your insurance, and experienced in treating your concerns. You’ll choose the clinician you’d like to work with.

Your first visit is an in-depth evaluation where your psychiatrist will listen, provide a diagnosis, and work with you to create a treatment plan tailored to your goals and preferences. You’ll continue seeing the same clinician over time, adjusting your plan as your needs evolve. Our team is always here to help with scheduling, insurance, and questions about your care.

Do you provide therapy?

Care at Talkiatry starts with psychiatry. If you already have a Talkiatry psychiatrist, they can refer you to one of our therapists if you’ve decided together that therapy is the right next step. However, you can’t see a Talkiatry therapist if you aren’t already seeing one of our psychiatrists.

What should I do if I’m having an emergency?

Talkiatry does not provide emergency care. If you or someone you know is in crisis, please visit your nearest emergency room, call 911, or call or text the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline at 988.

How much will my visit cost?

The majority of our visits cost patients $25 or less after insurance*, but your exact out-of-pocket cost depends on your plan. The best way to get a clear estimate is to contact your insurance provider directly. Here’s what to ask them:

  • Do I have mental health benefits that include outpatient psychiatry?
  • Is Talkiatry in-network for my plan?
  • What’s my copay or coinsurance for outpatient psychiatry visits?
  • Do I have a deductible? If so, how close am I to meeting it?
  • Do I have an out-of-pocket maximum? If so, how close am I to reaching it?
  • Are virtual or telehealth psychiatry visits covered the same as in-person care?
  • Is prior authorization required for outpatient psychiatry?
  • Can you provide a cost estimate for an in-network psychiatry visit using CPT code 99204?
  • Can you provide a cost estimate for an in-network psychotherapy visit using CPT code 90833?

*Includes all patient costs from 9/24-9/25: copayment, deductible, coinsurance, and $0 payments. Excludes missed appt. fees.  Your medical visit costs can vary depending on insurance coverage.

What if I don’t want to take medication?

Psychiatrists are medical doctors, and medication is often part of how they treat mental health conditions. At Talkiatry, your psychiatrist will start by listening and discussing your options with you. Medication is always your choice, but if it’s not something you’re open to considering, we may not be the best fit for ongoing care at this time.

How do I know if Talkiatry can help me?

Talkiatry provides virtual, in-network psychiatric care for people struggling with mild to moderate mental health issues. Here’s what we can help with:

  • Anxiety
  • ADHD (attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder)
  • Bipolar disorder
  • Child & adolescent care
  • Depression
  • OCD (obsessive-compulsive disorder)
  • Pregnancy & postpartum care
  • PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder)
  • Substance use disorder

Our goal is to connect you with the best possible care for you. At your first visit, your doctor will confirm whether Talkiatry is the right fit. If they recommend in-person or higher-level care, they’ll guide you to the appropriate resources.

What if my insurance changes from United Healthcare?

Insurance changes are common, and we’re here to help. Talkiatry is in-network with thousands of plans. If your insurance changes, reach out to a Care Coordinator to update your information and confirm your coverage by calling 833-351-TALK (8255).

Do I still take the assessment if I’m already diagnosed with Postpartum Depression?

Yes. Our online assessment is an important part of how we match you with the right psychiatrist. Your first visit will include a thorough evaluation so your psychiatrist can confirm your diagnosis and tailor your treatment plan to your current needs.
