My passion for working with children and families developed during my involvement in a pre-K Head Start Program in Rural North Carolina. I completed my General Psychiatry Residency and Child & Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship at Jerry M. Wallace School of Osteopathic Medicine at Campbell University. I obtained ABPN Board Certification in General Psychiatry in 2023 and am working towards Board Certification in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry. I have received honors and awards for my contributions to psychiatry, including the Laughlin Fellowship through The American College of Psychiatrists and Resident of the Year at Cape Fear Valley Health System in 2022. I am affiliated with professional organizations including AACAP and APA.

In addition to medication management, I augment my practice by implementing mindfulness, psychodynamic, and supportive therapy techniques to enhance treatment and improve treatment response. Before joining Talkiatry, I served as an Active-Duty staff psychiatrist at Blanchfield Army Community Hospital, Fort Campbell, KY, with additional roles as Medical Director of Behavioral Health and Interim Clinic Chief for Embedded Behavioral Health Clinic. I hold several certifications, including in Cognitive Behavioral Health Therapy for Suicide Prevention, Motivational Interviewing, and Battlefield Acupuncture. My teaching experience has spanned multiple institutions, where I have served as a preceptor and mentor for medical students, nurse practitioner students, and physician assistant students. I have also delivered presentations at national and international conferences on various topics, reinforcing my commitment to advancing the field of psychiatry.

I am an adult psychiatrist with a holistic approach to treatment, taking into account the entire person, and I emphasize the importance of the therapeutic bond to help people reduce suffering and achieve their goals. I am a member of the Gold Humanism Honor Society. My practice focuses on a mix of medication management, offered in conjunction with supportive therapy in 30-minute follow-up visits, and insight-oriented psychotherapy offered in weekly 45-minute visits. I work with people struggling with ADHD, depression, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive and related disorders, and difficulties with self-esteem and relationships. Occasionally I may believe that additional therapy is warranted and recommend a separate therapist to provide the best outcome.

I received my medical degree from the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine and completed my residency training at New York University. During training, I gained experience treating patients with various psychiatric illnesses in several different clinics and hospital-based settings. I worked with experts in the field of depression and provided consultations for patients considering transcranial magnetic stimulation. I also published a review article on long-term injectable medications for psychosis.

I have maintained an interest in teaching and remain connected to the psychiatry department at NYU. I have supervised and taught junior residents and medical students. Additionally, I am interested in global health and disparities in access to care and have traveled to Ghana to teach medical students rotating through psychiatry at the university there.

Although I have an integrative psychotherapy style, I may occasionally believe additional therapy is needed and ask that you bring a therapist into your care team to provide the best outcome. I offer a mix of pharmacotherapy in conjunction with psychotherapy in 30-minute sessions, utilizing pharmacotherapy along with facets of cognitive behavioral therapy, psychodynamic psychotherapy, and supportive therapy as needed. I have experience treating patients with a wide range of psychiatric concerns including various anxiety disorders, depression, bipolar spectrum disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and substance use disorders.

Since completing my training, I have been working with a wide variety of adults, including as a staff psychiatrist at Georgetown University's Counseling and Psychiatric Service.

I am a board-certified psychiatrist. While I primarily focus on medication management, I understand that mental health often requires approaches from multiple perspectives. Psychodynamic and supportive therapies are offered on an as-needed basis in addition to medication management. New patients are provided 60 minutes for initial visits, and follow-ups are given 30 minutes.

I graduated from the University of North Carolina School of Medicine in Chapel Hill, NC, and completed my adult psychiatry residency training at Virginia Commonwealth University Health System in Richmond, VA. Prior to entering medical school, I was a licensed elementary school teacher in Virginia, where I served children of various learning styles and needs.

After completing my residency at Bergen New Bridge Medical Center, I transitioned to an attending psychiatrist at the same place where I completed my residency. During my initial years as an attending, I took care of my own patients and supervised third year residents in the outpatient setting. After a few years, I transitioned to an inpatient setting, where I treated both voluntary and involuntary patients. I also continued to evaluate patients in the emergency room as part of the call group for the last 8 years.

I further specialized with a fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at UMDNJ/Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.

My career includes multiple leadership roles, notably serving as Chief of the Child and Adolescent Partial Hospital Programs (PHP) at Rutgers University in Newark, NJ, where I provided direct care to young patients. I have also held Medical Director positions across various clinical settings, including child and adolescent inpatient units, outpatient programs, and intensive outpatient services for both adolescents and adults with mental health and co-occurring substance use disorders. As an active educator, I have served as a teaching faculty member, delivering lectures and providing supervision and evaluations for medical residents and child and adolescent psychiatry fellows, and I have served as a principal investigator on multiple studies. Throughout my career in leadership and teaching, I maintained an integrative private practice in New Jersey, serving residents of the NJ and NY metropolitan areas before relocating to North Carolina.
