I believe that each person's "best self" is unique and that mental health care should meet individuals where they are. I emphasize a collaborative, client-centered approach, always keeping the individual's goals at the heart of care. I am dedicated to helping clients identify and overcome the symptoms and stressors that interfere with their well-being, and I work to dismantle limiting beliefs or labels that may have been placed on them. By taking the time to understand each person's challenges and aspirations, I help clients find sustainable, holistic paths to wellness. My care is grounded in empathy, respect, and a deep commitment to supporting each person's journey toward a fulfilling and balanced life. Since shifting my focus to psychiatric mental health in 2022, I have helped individuals improve their quality of life through medication management for mood disorders, PTSD, anxiety, ADHD, and other mental health conditions.

I grew up in a rural community, where I learned the value of helping others achieve their best selves to support overall community health and well-being. I earned my undergraduate degree in biology from the University of Nebraska and completed my nursing education at Creighton University. I went on to earn a Master of Science in Nursing, specializing as a Family Nurse Practitioner and in Community Health, from Creighton University, and later completed a nursing practice degree at the University of Colorado with a focus on population and community health. I also hold a post-graduate certification in psychiatric mental health from Washburn University. I practiced family medicine for 18 years before transitioning to psychiatric mental health in 2022, and my background in both physical and mental health gives me a holistic perspective on care.

I continue to live in a rural community with my family and remain committed to helping people become their best selves.

My practice focuses on medication management, and I utilize a systematic approach to ensure diagnoses are accurate and treatment plans are optimized to each individual patient. My approach is also holistic in nature, often incorporating therapy and lifestyle modification into the treatment plan. I employ multiple therapeutic approaches depending on the needs of the patient, including supportive therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). I place great emphasis on psychoeducation so that patients are aware of the nature and prognosis of their conditions as well as the treatment options available. When multiple treatment options are reasonable, I take patient preference into account, offering flexibility to the patient experience. I treat a variety of psychiatric disorders with a particular focus on mood disorders, anxiety disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and trauma-related disorders.

I am a board-certified staff psychiatrist who treats adult patients. A former engineer, I have developed a passion for guiding patients along the road to recovery. I completed my undergraduate studies at The University of Texas at Austin and later completed medical school and residency in General Psychiatry at The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston.

Please note: I do not prescribe long-term, daily benzodiazepine medications; however, I am happy to help you taper off of these medications and transition to a safer, long-term medication regimen.

My approach combines medication management with psychotherapy to create a well-rounded, individualized treatment plan. I take time to listen to my patients' concerns, fostering a safe and open environment for dialogue. My therapeutic methods include supportive therapy, motivational interviewing, and cognitive behavioral therapy. Recognizing that medication alone may not fully address the root causes of distress, I incorporate talk therapy, lifestyle changes, stress management, self-care strategies, supplements, and social health into my care plans. With a laid-back, non-judgmental, and empathetic style, I collaborate closely with patients to ensure their treatment aligns with their unique needs and goals. Every decision is grounded in evidence-based practices and patient-centered care.

I begin with a comprehensive initial assessment, gathering detailed information about each patient's mental and physical health history, lifestyle, symptoms, concerns, and goals. This assessment informs a potential diagnosis and serves as the foundation for a personalized treatment plan. Regular follow-up appointments are scheduled to monitor progress, make adjustments as needed, and provide ongoing support.

I am a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) who earned my Master of Science in Nursing from Kent State University in 2020. I have experience treating a wide range of mental health conditions, including depression, anxiety, psychotic disorders, bipolar disorder, ADHD, OCD, PTSD, and substance use disorders.

I use a variety of therapeutic approaches (supportive, CBT, DBT, psychodynamic) in combination with medication management to help patients identify and develop treatment plans towards their own unique goals. Having worked with patients across their lifespans allows me to take a well-rounded approach to identifying issues with my patients, especially in family settings.

I am a double board-certified psychiatrist in Psychiatry and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. I completed medical school in my home state at Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine, where the focus on mind-body connection now fits seamlessly into holistically minded patient care. I then completed General Psychiatry residency and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry fellowship at the University of Colorado, where I was Chief Fellow focused on improving resident/fellow experiences and ensuring all medical students took a firm grasp of psychiatry into their futures. Prior to joining Talkiatry, I worked in a residential treatment center for teenagers with eating disorders, gaining significant experience with challenging patients and their families.

During the first visit, patients can expect a one-hour comprehensive intake during which I thoroughly evaluate their symptoms, medical history, and personal goals. Follow-up visits typically last 20 to 30 minutes, focusing on assessing treatment progress and making necessary adjustments. FAQs

How does Talkiatry work?

Talkiatry is an online psychiatry practice designed to make high-quality mental health care more accessible. We’re 100% virtual, in-network with major insurance plans, and first appointments are typically available in days.

To get started, you’ll complete a quick online assessment to tell us what you’re looking for. We’ll match you with psychiatrists who are licensed in your state, in-network with your insurance, and experienced in treating your concerns. You’ll choose the clinician you’d like to work with.

Your first visit is an in-depth evaluation where your psychiatrist will listen, provide a diagnosis, and work with you to create a treatment plan tailored to your goals and preferences. You’ll continue seeing the same clinician over time, adjusting your plan as your needs evolve. Our team is always here to help with scheduling, insurance, and questions about your care.

Do you provide therapy?

Care at Talkiatry starts with psychiatry. If you already have a Talkiatry psychiatrist, they can refer you to one of our therapists if you’ve decided together that therapy is the right next step. However, you can’t see a Talkiatry therapist if you aren’t already seeing one of our psychiatrists.

What should I do if I’m having an emergency?

Talkiatry does not provide emergency care. If you or someone you know is in crisis, please visit your nearest emergency room, call 911, or call or text the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline at 988.

How much will my visit cost?

The majority of our visits cost patients $25 or less after insurance*, but your exact out-of-pocket cost depends on your plan. The best way to get a clear estimate is to contact your insurance provider directly. Here’s what to ask them:

  • Do I have mental health benefits that include outpatient psychiatry?
  • Is Talkiatry in-network for my plan?
  • What’s my copay or coinsurance for outpatient psychiatry visits?
  • Do I have a deductible? If so, how close am I to meeting it?
  • Do I have an out-of-pocket maximum? If so, how close am I to reaching it?
  • Are virtual or telehealth psychiatry visits covered the same as in-person care?
  • Is prior authorization required for outpatient psychiatry?
  • Can you provide a cost estimate for an in-network psychiatry visit using CPT code 99204?
  • Can you provide a cost estimate for an in-network psychotherapy visit using CPT code 90833?

*Includes all patient costs from 9/24-9/25: copayment, deductible, coinsurance, and $0 payments. Excludes missed appt. fees.  Your medical visit costs can vary depending on insurance coverage.

What if I don’t want to take medication?

Psychiatrists are medical doctors, and medication is often part of how they treat mental health conditions. At Talkiatry, your psychiatrist will start by listening and discussing your options with you. Medication is always your choice, but if it’s not something you’re open to considering, we may not be the best fit for ongoing care at this time.

How do I know if Talkiatry can help me?

Talkiatry provides virtual, in-network psychiatric care for people struggling with mild to moderate mental health issues. Here’s what we can help with:

  • Anxiety
  • ADHD (attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder)
  • Bipolar disorder
  • Child & adolescent care
  • Depression
  • OCD (obsessive-compulsive disorder)
  • Pregnancy & postpartum care
  • PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder)
  • Substance use disorder

Our goal is to connect you with the best possible care for you. At your first visit, your doctor will confirm whether Talkiatry is the right fit. If they recommend in-person or higher-level care, they’ll guide you to the appropriate resources.

What if my insurance changes from Blue Cross Blue Shield?

Insurance changes are common, and we’re here to help. Talkiatry is in-network with thousands of plans. If your insurance changes, reach out to a Care Coordinator to update your information and confirm your coverage by calling 833-351-TALK (8255).

Do I still take the assessment if I’m already diagnosed with bipolar disorder?

Yes. Our online assessment is an important part of how we match you with the right psychiatrist. Your first visit will include a thorough evaluation so your psychiatrist can confirm your diagnosis and tailor your treatment plan to your current needs.
