I value compassionate, well-rounded care and work collaboratively with patients to develop effective treatment plans. I emphasize communication, active listening, and dignity, creating a supportive, nonjudgmental environment where patients feel understood and empowered. I begin by understanding each patient's history, concerns, and goals, then work together with them to establish clear, practical treatment objectives, ensuring each plan is tailored to their unique needs and fosters progress and long-term wellness.

I graduated from Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine in Spartanburg, South Carolina in 2016. I completed my psychiatry residency at Henry Ford Allegiance Health in Jackson, Michigan in 2020 and a subspecialty in Forensic Psychiatry at the University of Maryland in 2021. I am dual board certified in Adult and Forensic Psychiatry and have practiced in inpatient, outpatient, community, academic, and forensic settings.

I am an adult psychiatrist at Talkiatry who practices compassionate, patient-centered care. As a multiracial psychiatrist, I serve diverse communities and focus on treatment plans that respect each patient's background. I treat various diagnoses, including trauma, mood, personality, and eating disorders, with a particular interest in the student and LGBTQ+ communities. Using a range of skills and interventions from psychodynamic therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and mentalization-based therapy (MBT), I prioritize a collaborative approach. I ensure patients are actively involved in shaping their treatment, including decisions about medication and supplements. This cooperation allows for personalized care plans that align with each patient's needs, values, and goals. Recognizing that cultural influences, substance use, financial constraints, and other societal factors impact mental health, I examine these personal aspects to provide effective, holistic care in a non-judgmental space.

I graduated from McGovern Medical School (UT Houston) and completed my residency in psychiatry at the University of Chicago. I aim to make healthcare more accessible and affordable, driving systemic changes in mental health care.

I strive to create a supportive environment where patients feel heard, respected, and understood. My approach emphasizes a holistic, whole-person method to healing, guided by the patient's own goals and values. I integrate psychotherapy with medication management, drawing on my background in psychodynamic psychopharmacology and acceptance and commitment therapy. I focus on understanding each patient as a whole to create individualized treatment plans. This begins with a comprehensive history during the initial session to identify biopsychosocial factors. Treatment is then tailored to align with the patient's unique goals and values, promoting meaningful progress.

I hold a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and earned my medical degree from Midwestern University Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine. I completed my psychiatry residency at Loyola University Medical Center. I have experience practicing across outpatient, PHP, IOP, and inpatient settings.

I foster a warm, collaborative environment where patients and families feel supported and understood. I emphasize open communication and work closely with patients to define meaningful, realistic treatment goals. My holistic, family-centered approach integrates medication management, therapy, and psychoeducation with a deep commitment to cultural sensitivity and compassionate care. I begin by learning each patient's personal story, clinical history, and goals through a comprehensive evaluation, then create individualized, evidence-based treatment plans tailored to each child's unique needs and family context. I continuously collaborate with patients, families, and care teams to ensure treatment remains effective, combining psychotherapy, medication management, and coordination with other providers and resources.

I am board-certified in both Child & Adolescent Psychiatry and General Psychiatry, with over 20 years of clinical experience. I earned my M.D. from Loyola University Medical Center, where I also completed my residency in Adult Psychiatry, and pursued fellowship training in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Northwestern University's Children's Memorial Hospital. I am a board certified adult psychiatrist who emphasizes patient education and a psychodynamic approach to outpatient psychiatry. My practice focuses on blending medication management together with psychotherapy, and I prioritize collaboration with your therapist, encouraging working together as a team. I understand that medications are not the end-all-be-all of treatment, but just the beginning. For trauma and acute stress, I understand that the journey starts at the tip of the iceberg, with much to explore as you feel more ready. Areas of specialization include psychopharmacology, patient-centered medicine, and combination treatment of psychiatry and psychotherapy.

I am a graduate of the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine, where I completed an MD and PhD combined program, which helped develop my "doctors as teachers" style of practice. I completed my psychiatry residency training at Loyola University Medical Center in Illinois. My passion for empowering patients with knowledge stems from my academic experience in psychiatry residency training. I served as an Associate Program Director of Loyola's Psychiatry residency training program for two years and now maintain an Affiliate Assistant Professor of Psychiatry role with Loyola. I continue to contribute to residency training, as well as mentorship of medical students and psychology externs. Over the years, I have received several awards that demonstrate my affinity for teaching, including the Educator of the Year Award in 2022 from the Loyola Psychiatry Residency Program.

I take a holistic and "patient-centered" approach in my treatment style. I incorporate both medication management, supportive psychotherapy, and discussions surrounding lifestyle and wellness into my appointments, and I emphasize patient education and autonomy, which I believe helps support the therapeutic relationship, improve clinical outcomes, and helps treatment align with the patient's goals of care. My clinical interests include mood disorders, anxiety disorders, substance use disorders, and women's mental health.

I am an Adult Psychiatrist and a graduate of Loyola University Medical Center's residency program in Chicago, IL. Prior to residency, I graduated from Rush Medical College at Rush University. I am board-certified in adult psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and focus my practice on medication management. I also engage in supportive therapy in a comprehensive way, focusing on the patient as a whole and not just the symptoms. I have a broad understanding of vitamin support as an adjunctive treatment to traditional medication, and I have broadened my understanding of second-line treatment, having been certified in Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT), conducting clinics in Clozapine and Long-Acting Antipsychotics (LOA), and conducting assessments for patients interested in weight loss surgery. My approach to treatment is comprehensive, and I may consider the addition of therapy, either by referral or by collaborating with an existing therapist, for a more rounded approach and improved outcome. My current areas of focus are adults with Mood Disorders, Anxiety, Co-Occurring Substance disorders, as well as patients with varied concomitant medical problems.

I received my medical degree from the Universidad Central del Caribe, located in Bayamon, Puerto Rico. Upon graduation, I relocated to Philadelphia, where I completed my residency program at Einstein Medical Center. After completing my training, I worked for 8 years in a community mental health clinic, treating an underserved population in all modalities of psychiatric care. Over my 12-year career, I have treated both adult males and females, including seniors, which has led to varied and wide-ranging diagnoses. After leaving the community clinic setting, I began working for an outpatient clinic in a suburb of Philadelphia.

FAQs

How does Talkiatry work?

Talkiatry is an online psychiatry practice designed to make high-quality mental health care more accessible. We’re 100% virtual, in-network with major insurance plans, and first appointments are typically available in days.

To get started, you’ll complete a quick online assessment to tell us what you’re looking for. We’ll match you with psychiatrists who are licensed in your state, in-network with your insurance, and experienced in treating your concerns. You’ll choose the clinician you’d like to work with.

Your first visit is an in-depth evaluation where your psychiatrist will listen, provide a diagnosis, and work with you to create a treatment plan tailored to your goals and preferences. You’ll continue seeing the same clinician over time, adjusting your plan as your needs evolve. Our team is always here to help with scheduling, insurance, and questions about your care.

Do you provide therapy?

Care at Talkiatry starts with psychiatry. If you already have a Talkiatry psychiatrist, they can refer you to one of our therapists if you’ve decided together that therapy is the right next step. However, you can’t see a Talkiatry therapist if you aren’t already seeing one of our psychiatrists.

What should I do if I’m having an emergency?

Talkiatry does not provide emergency care. If you or someone you know is in crisis, please visit your nearest emergency room, call 911, or call or text the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline at 988.

How much will my visit cost?

The majority of our visits cost patients $25 or less after insurance*, but your exact out-of-pocket cost depends on your plan. The best way to get a clear estimate is to contact your insurance provider directly. Here’s what to ask them:

  • Do I have mental health benefits that include outpatient psychiatry?
  • Is Talkiatry in-network for my plan?
  • What’s my copay or coinsurance for outpatient psychiatry visits?
  • Do I have a deductible? If so, how close am I to meeting it?
  • Do I have an out-of-pocket maximum? If so, how close am I to reaching it?
  • Are virtual or telehealth psychiatry visits covered the same as in-person care?
  • Is prior authorization required for outpatient psychiatry?
  • Can you provide a cost estimate for an in-network psychiatry visit using CPT code 99204?
  • Can you provide a cost estimate for an in-network psychotherapy visit using CPT code 90833?

*Includes all patient costs from 9/24-9/25: copayment, deductible, coinsurance, and $0 payments. Excludes missed appt. fees.  Your medical visit costs can vary depending on insurance coverage.

What if I don’t want to take medication?

Psychiatrists are medical doctors, and medication is often part of how they treat mental health conditions. At Talkiatry, your psychiatrist will start by listening and discussing your options with you. Medication is always your choice, but if it’s not something you’re open to considering, we may not be the best fit for ongoing care at this time.

How do I know if Talkiatry can help me?

Talkiatry provides virtual, in-network psychiatric care for people struggling with mild to moderate mental health issues. Here’s what we can help with:

  • Anxiety
  • ADHD (attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder)
  • Bipolar disorder
  • Child & adolescent care
  • Depression
  • OCD (obsessive-compulsive disorder)
  • Pregnancy & postpartum care
  • PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder)
  • Substance use disorder

Our goal is to connect you with the best possible care for you. At your first visit, your doctor will confirm whether Talkiatry is the right fit. If they recommend in-person or higher-level care, they’ll guide you to the appropriate resources.

What if my insurance changes from Blue Cross Blue Shield?

Insurance changes are common, and we’re here to help. Talkiatry is in-network with thousands of plans. If your insurance changes, reach out to a Care Coordinator to update your information and confirm your coverage by calling 833-351-TALK (8255).

Do I still take the assessment if I’m already diagnosed with anxiety?

Yes. Our online assessment is an important part of how we match you with the right psychiatrist. Your first visit will include a thorough evaluation so your psychiatrist can confirm your diagnosis and tailor your treatment plan to your current needs.
