I have worked in numerous psychiatric roles, including at a Comprehensive Psychiatric Emergency Program (CPEP) at Stony Brook University Hospital and on the inpatient voluntary psychiatric unit at Holy Name Hospital. I was born and raised in Queens, NY, have spent much of my time in the North East, and am currently residing in New Jersey with my spouse and dog, Luna.

I also co-led a mindfulness group at the outpatient clinic, worked with students at Baruch College, and rotated with the Assertive Community Treatment team at MSBI.

Ultimately, I chose to specialize in outpatient care, focusing on treating patients with mood and anxiety disorders. While my practice primarily emphasizes medication management, I also incorporate supportive and cognitive behavioral therapy techniques in my sessions. As an adult psychiatrist, I have extensive theoretical knowledge of the nervous system and its disorders and more than 10 years of experience in treating various mental illnesses including mood disorders, anxiety disorders, psychotic disorders, autism-spectrum and neuropsychiatric disorders, psychiatric emergencies and crisis management, as well as cognitive behavioral and supportive psychotherapy.

I graduated cum laude from Istanbul University, Istanbul Medical School, completed my residency training in Neurology, and am Turkish board-certified in clinical Neurology. I then moved to the U.S. and finished my Ph.D. in cellular Neuroscience at Cornell University Graduate School of Medical Sciences. I completed my psychiatry residency training at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry, and subsequently my clinical fellowship in Comprehensive Psychiatric Emergency Program at Columbia University Medical College, New York Presbyterian Hospital.

I have practiced in various settings including Bellevue Hospital, New York Presbyterian Hospital, Columbia Doctors Faculty Practice Office, and Mount Sinai West and Mount Sinai Morningside Hospitals. I have held academic appointments at New York University School of Medicine Department of Psychiatry; New York Presbyterian Hospital-Columbia University Medical College Department of Psychiatry; New York State Psychiatric Institute; and Mount Sinai School of Medicine Department of Psychiatry. I have spent most of my professional career supervising and teaching medical students, psychiatry residents, and nurse practitioners. After completing residency training at Montefiore Medical Center, I was invited to serve an additional year as Senior Chief Resident for its adult psychiatry residency training program. I then spent the following year as a fellow in Geriatric Psychiatry before my appointment as an attending physician on Montefiore's acute psychiatric inpatient unit. I subsequently transferred to Bronx Psychiatric Center, where I treated inpatients and outpatients suffering from severe mental disorders, further expanding my knowledge base and becoming an expert in advanced psychopharmacology. Prior to joining Talkiatry, I also served as an attending physician at NYU Langone Hospital. During my training years, I made several trips to Uganda to serve as an attending physician with the Doctors for Global Health Project.

I do not usually treat ADHD patients. For the small number of patients I treat who have ADHD, I require comprehensive testing, multiple follow ups, and a full medical workup before confirming a diagnosis to ensure appropriateness and safety of chosen treatment.

I previously directed UIC's psychiatric Gender and Sexuality Clinic, providing LGBTQ+ affirming care with an emphasis on support for gender-expansive patients. I have contributed to the National Curriculum on Reproductive Psychiatry and continue to manage mental health issues during pregnancy and postpartum. My other clinical interests include PTSD, ADHD, co-occurring medical conditions, and culturally sensitive care. I value warmth, curiosity, and shared decision-making.
