I am a dual board-certified psychiatrist with subspecialty certification in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. I completed my fellowship at Washington University in St. Louis, where I also served as Chief Fellow, and my general psychiatry residency at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Tyler. Over the past year, I have provided telehealth psychiatric consultations across emergency rooms and inpatient settings, gaining extensive experience across state hospitals, outpatient clinics, college mental health, preschool, mood disorder, and community health clinics.

My practice centers around treating the whole patient: mind, body, and spirit. I believe the judicious use of psychiatric medications, coupled with psychotherapy and alternative treatments such as meditation and yoga, can bring about transformative changes in the lives of those suffering from depression, anxiety, and other mental conditions and life issues. In addition to general adult psychiatry, I received extensive training in one of the nation's largest women's mood disorder programs at The University of North Carolina Chapel Hill and enjoy treating peripartum and postpartum mood and anxiety disorders. I am also well trained in addiction medicine and received additional training in buprenorphine use for opioid addiction.

I am a board-certified adult psychiatrist who has been in practice for over 10 years. I graduated with Honors in Psychology from The University of Florida, received my medical degree from The University of South Alabama School of Medicine, completed a clinical postdoctoral research fellowship at Boston University School of Medicine, and completed my Psychiatry residency training at The University of North Carolina. I am currently obtaining my MBA. After residency, I worked as a psychiatric hospitalist at Trident Medical Center in Charleston and have also worked in private practice. Most recently I served as Chief Medical Officer for an 80-bed psychiatric hospital, Coral Shores Behavioral Hospital in Stuart, FL. I have worked in inpatient units, private practice, and community mental health, as well as served as Chief Medical Officer of a large psychiatric hospital. In 2018 I was awarded the Charleston Choice Award for Best Psychiatrist in Charleston, South Carolina. I currently reside in South Florida.

My specialties include affective and anxiety disorders, and I have specific expertise in neuropsychiatry, psychopharmacology, and alternative treatments for affective disorders. I practice psychotherapy from an Eriksonian perspective and am well versed in individual and psychodynamic psychotherapies.

I most recently served as medical director for clinical services at Erlanger Behavioral Health Hospital in Chattanooga, TN. After several years of private practice, I served as Chief of Inpatient Psychiatric Services and then as Chief of Psychiatry at Mountain Home VA Medical Center. During my time at Mountain Home VA, I was also a Professor of Psychiatry at Quillen Medical School at East Tennessee State University, where I taught General Psychiatry courses and the Neurosciences of Psychiatry. I have an extensive psychiatric background in practice and as a teacher.

I am a Distinguished Life Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and a Past President of both the Tennessee Psychiatric Association and the Southern Psychiatric Association. I have been awarded a Distinguished Service Award from the United States Public Health Service. I have been twice named the Outstanding Teacher Award from the ETSU Psychiatry Residency program and was awarded Course Director of the Year for the Neurosciences residency course I developed. I also hold an Irma J. Bland Award for Excellence in Psychiatric Education from the APA.

My primary focus has been on treating adults with depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety, ADHD, OCD, and PTSD. I have an approachable, patient-centered style, combined with a passion for optimizing sleep as it pertains to management of a psychiatric illness and overall well-being. I offer supportive therapy as part of my medication management visits, and at times may also offer cognitive behavioral therapy to address underlying stressors which may be contributing to one's presenting ailments. I am a board-certified adult psychiatrist and am also fluent in Spanish. I completed residency at North Florida Regional in Gainesville via the University of Central Florida, where I also served as chief resident for education. I received my medical degree from Lincoln Memorial University DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine in Tennessee. I am a board-certified General and Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist with over nine years of experience. My practice focuses on medication management, which is founded not only on evidence-based medicine but also on the understanding that a trusting therapeutic relationship is the cornerstone of behavioral health healing. I incorporate CBT, supportive therapy, and psychoeducation into my medication management appointments and may refer patients for additional psychotherapy to improve outcomes. I received my Bachelor of Science degree from Ursinus College, with a dual major in Biochemistry/Molecular Biology and Neuroscience. After receiving a Health Professions Scholarship from the Army, I obtained my medical degree from Jefferson Medical College. I went on to enter active duty military service and complete General Psychiatry residency training and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry fellowship training at Tripler Army Medical Center before completing active duty service as a staff psychiatrist and 101st Airborne Division psychiatrist at Fort Campbell, KY. There I cared for active duty service members and their families to manage depression, anxiety, trauma, and the unique stressors of military service.

I later transitioned to federal civilian service and served as a preceptor for Phase II Physician Assistant trainees and Army Social Work interns, reinforcing a passion for education that carried me to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNMMC). During my time at WRNMMC, I served in several roles including Deputy Medical Director of Inpatient Psychiatry, core faculty for the National Capital Consortium Psychiatry Residency Program, Associate Program Director, and associate faculty at the Uniform Services University for Health Sciences (USUHS). Prior to transitioning out of federal service to join Talkiatry, I was repeatedly recognized for excellence in academics and mentorship and received multiple teaching awards. This zeal for education and mentorship, as well as humility, personal growth, and learning, translates directly into my philosophy for patient care.
