My approach is holistic, treating the whole person, and I encourage collaboration, helping patients feel seen, heard, and empowered in their care. I review a patient's history before each session and begin with clear introductions and goal setting. I invite open discussion of concerns and tailor treatment plans with patient input. I often incorporate CBT, motivational interviewing, and solution-focused therapy into care, promoting growth through supportive, personalized strategies.
My nursing journey began over 30 years ago in a state psychiatric hospital in Goldsboro, NC, inspired by the poised nurse I admired at church as a child. My path includes roles as LPN, RN, BSN, and multiple advanced practice degrees, and I hold the PMHNP-BC credential. I have worked in inpatient and outpatient settings, VA clinics, and private practices. I also serve as a preceptor for PMHNP students at my alma mater, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

My approach to care is both traditional, prescribing evidence-based psychiatric medications, and holistic, incorporating natural treatments such as vitamins, supplements, lifestyle modifications, nutrition, exercise, and stress management. I believe in the mind-body-spirit connection, viewing individuals as whole beings rather than a collection of symptoms, echoing the philosophy of Hippocrates, the "Father of Medicine." My holistic philosophy is evident in my skillful management of psychotropic medications and my integration of psychotherapy, including supportive therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and psychodynamic therapy. My primary interest lies in exploring the relationship between mental, physical, and spiritual health. I find great fulfillment in helping others and go beyond diagnosis and treatment by conducting thorough mental health assessments to ensure accurate identification of psychiatric conditions. What sets me apart is my commitment to patient education, empowering individuals and their families with a deep understanding of their conditions and treatment plans, including medication as part of a comprehensive care strategy.
I am dually board-certified as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) and Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP-BC), providing care across all age groups. I am fluent in English, Hindi, and Malayalam, and licensed to practice in Florida, New York, Texas, and Georgia. My academic background includes a Post-Master's Certification from Florida State University, a Master of Science from D'Youville College in Buffalo, NY, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Delhi University, and a Master's Degree in Social Work from the Delhi School of Social Work. I am a member of the American Nurses Association, and I was invited to join Sigma Theta Tau International (STTI) as a graduate nursing student for my excellence in scholarship and outstanding achievements in nursing. I have contributed to several U.S. nursing journals and magazines and have published and presented research articles in international peer-reviewed journals, maintaining an active academic presence through platforms like Google Scholar and ResearchGate. My hands-on experience spans assessing, treating, and evaluating patients with a wide range of psychiatric conditions, including ADHD, depression, anxiety, PTSD, OCD, schizophrenia, and bipolar disorder, at institutions such as Mindful Behavioral Healthcare, AdventHealth Hospital, and Park Place Behavioral Health Care. My international experience includes roles in Canada, where I further developed my expertise in geriatric psychiatry, and I have also worked in addiction medicine, grief counseling, and primary care. In addition to my clinical work, I serve as a clinical instructor, sharing my knowledge and insights with future healthcare professionals.
Outside of my professional life, I enjoy reading, writing, beach activities, hiking, and traveling with my family. I am also actively involved in charitable work through the Lions Club. I live by the principle: "Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you." (Luke 6:38) Indeed, I believe that it is in giving that we truly receive.

I am a board-certified adult psychiatrist with over 14 years of experience, during which time I primarily treated active-duty US Navy sailors, their family members, and military retirees in the outpatient setting. My practice focuses on medication management in addition to supportive and cognitive-behavioral therapy in 30-minute follow-up visits. I am a strong advocate of multiple treatment modalities and, in certain situations, may suggest that therapy and/or regular physical exercise be included in your treatment plan to provide the best outcome.
I received my B.S. in Physics from the United States Naval Academy. After serving as an Intelligence Officer in the Navy for eight years, I transitioned to medicine and earned my medical degree from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, MD. After completing an intern year in Family Medicine, I completed residency training in Psychiatry at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, VA, where I remained on staff for the next ten years and was primarily involved in resident training and education. I held academic appointments at the Uniformed Services University and Eastern Virginia Medical School and served as the Psychiatry Residency Program Director for six years. I served my final four years in uniform running the behavioral health department at Naval Air Station Whidbey Island, WA, and recently retired from the Navy after a 30-year career.
I have extensive experience in outpatient psychiatric care. In addition to the full spectrum of mood and anxiety disorders, I have treated a very large number of patients with PTSD stemming from combat, natural disasters, and sexual trauma. I believe that, like my service to the country, working alongside others in their journey to better mental health is an incredible privilege.

I am a board-certified General and Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist with over nine years of experience. My practice focuses on medication management, which is founded not only on evidence-based medicine but also on the understanding that a trusting therapeutic relationship is the cornerstone of behavioral health healing. I incorporate CBT, supportive therapy, and psychoeducation into my medication management appointments and may refer patients for additional psychotherapy to improve outcomes. I believe a whole-person approach with open, collaborative teamwork is the key to progress.
I received my Bachelor of Science degree from Ursinus College, with a dual major in Biochemistry/Molecular Biology and Neuroscience. After receiving a Health Professions Scholarship from the Army, I obtained my medical degree from Jefferson Medical College. I went on to enter active duty military service and complete General Psychiatry residency training and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry fellowship training at Tripler Army Medical Center before completing active duty service as a staff psychiatrist and 101st Airborne Division psychiatrist at Fort Campbell, KY. There I cared for active duty service members and their families to manage depression, anxiety, trauma, and the unique stressors of military service.
I later transitioned to federal civilian service and served as a preceptor for Phase II Physician Assistant trainees and Army Social Work interns, reinforcing a passion for education that carried me to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNMMC). During my time at WRNMMC, I served in several roles including Deputy Medical Director of Inpatient Psychiatry, core faculty for the National Capital Consortium Psychiatry Residency Program, Associate Program Director, and associate faculty at the Uniform Services University for Health Sciences (USUHS). Prior to transitioning out of federal service to join Talkiatry, I was repeatedly recognized for excellence in academics and mentorship and received multiple teaching awards. This zeal for education and mentorship, as well as humility, personal growth, and learning, translates directly into my philosophy for patient care.

I emphasize the importance of truly listening, so patients feel seen and heard. I work collaboratively with my patients to identify their main concerns and to build a treatment plan that feels right for them. I believe treatment should be a shared process in which the patient is empowered and supported in their mental health journey. Taking a "less is more" approach to medication, I focus on minimizing prescriptions while still addressing all of a patient's needs. My goal is to help patients eventually rely more on therapeutic skills than medication. I view treatment as a partnership, balancing my expertise in psychiatry with each patient's lived experience.
I bring over a decade of experience in outpatient psychiatric care, with prior roles providing treatment to juveniles in detention and adults in jail and prison systems across West Virginia. I completed my medical degree at the Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine at Marshall University and trained in psychiatry and child and adolescent psychiatry at West Virginia University.

FAQs
How does Talkiatry work?
Talkiatry is an online psychiatry practice designed to make high-quality mental health care more accessible. We’re 100% virtual, in-network with major insurance plans, and first appointments are typically available in days.
To get started, you’ll complete a quick online assessment to tell us what you’re looking for. We’ll match you with psychiatrists who are licensed in your state, in-network with your insurance, and experienced in treating your concerns. You’ll choose the clinician you’d like to work with.
Your first visit is an in-depth evaluation where your psychiatrist will listen, provide a diagnosis, and work with you to create a treatment plan tailored to your goals and preferences. You’ll continue seeing the same clinician over time, adjusting your plan as your needs evolve. Our team is always here to help with scheduling, insurance, and questions about your care.
Do you provide therapy?
Care at Talkiatry starts with psychiatry. If you already have a Talkiatry psychiatrist, they can refer you to one of our therapists if you’ve decided together that therapy is the right next step. However, you can’t see a Talkiatry therapist if you aren’t already seeing one of our psychiatrists.
What should I do if I’m having an emergency?
Talkiatry does not provide emergency care. If you or someone you know is in crisis, please visit your nearest emergency room, call 911, or call or text the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline at 988.
How much will my visit cost?
The majority of our visits cost patients $25 or less after insurance*, but your exact out-of-pocket cost depends on your plan. The best way to get a clear estimate is to contact your insurance provider directly. Here’s what to ask them:
- Do I have mental health benefits that include outpatient psychiatry?
- Is Talkiatry in-network for my plan?
- What’s my copay or coinsurance for outpatient psychiatry visits?
- Do I have a deductible? If so, how close am I to meeting it?
- Do I have an out-of-pocket maximum? If so, how close am I to reaching it?
- Are virtual or telehealth psychiatry visits covered the same as in-person care?
- Is prior authorization required for outpatient psychiatry?
- Can you provide a cost estimate for an in-network psychiatry visit using CPT code 99204?
- Can you provide a cost estimate for an in-network psychotherapy visit using CPT code 90833?
*Includes all patient costs from 9/24-9/25: copayment, deductible, coinsurance, and $0 payments. Excludes missed appt. fees. Your medical visit costs can vary depending on insurance coverage.
What if I don’t want to take medication?
Psychiatrists are medical doctors, and medication is often part of how they treat mental health conditions. At Talkiatry, your psychiatrist will start by listening and discussing your options with you. Medication is always your choice, but if it’s not something you’re open to considering, we may not be the best fit for ongoing care at this time.
How do I know if Talkiatry can help me?
Talkiatry provides virtual, in-network psychiatric care for people struggling with mild to moderate mental health issues. Here’s what we can help with:
- Anxiety
- ADHD (attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder)
- Bipolar disorder
- Child & adolescent care
- Depression
- OCD (obsessive-compulsive disorder)
- Pregnancy & postpartum care
- PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder)
- Substance use disorder
Our goal is to connect you with the best possible care for you. At your first visit, your doctor will confirm whether Talkiatry is the right fit. If they recommend in-person or higher-level care, they’ll guide you to the appropriate resources.
Do I still take the assessment if I’m already diagnosed with PTSD?
Yes. Our online assessment is an important part of how we match you with the right psychiatrist. Your first visit will include a thorough evaluation so your psychiatrist can confirm your diagnosis and tailor your treatment plan to your current needs.
