I earned my Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from Rocky Vista University in Colorado and completed my internship and psychiatry residency at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. I have extensive experience in both inpatient and outpatient psychiatric care, particularly in military and veteran populations.

Edmund Clark, MD, serves as Chief Psychiatrist at Talkiatry with over 17 years of board-certified experience, including more than 5 years delivering tele-psychiatric care to underserved areas. His career spans 23 years in public service, including leadership roles as Chief of the VA Mental Health Clinics in Jacksonville, FL, and program manager for the University of Florida’s Psychiatry Residency Training Program. A former U.S. Navy psychiatrist, he deployed multiple times, including to Iraq in support of an Army Combat Stress Control clinic, gaining expertise in evidence-based PTSD treatments. Dr. Clark earned his medical degree from the University of Florida and completed his psychiatry residency at the National Naval Medical Center and Walter Reed, serving as chief resident for over 50 military trainees. Before medicine, he served in the U.S. Peace Corps in Kenya.

Dr. Clark values a collaborative approach built on honesty, rapport, and ensuring patients feel heard. He helps patients identify and address multiple factors influencing their mental health, aiming for positive, lasting changes that improve function across life domains. He encourages evidence-based therapies and, when needed, involves other providers to support comprehensive care.

I am board certified in adult psychiatry and earned my medical degree from Louisiana State University in New Orleans, where I also completed my four-year residency in psychiatry. In my most recent role, I served as the Deputy Chief of the Department of Behavioral Health at Fort Campbell, KY, where I provided clinical and administrative supervision, as well as mentorship and guidance for an interdisciplinary team of over 140 personnel. I maintained oversight of behavioral health care being delivered through 11 clinics and satellite locations, providing patient care for over 30,000 beneficiaries. While in leadership, I continued to provide direct patient care for service members and dependents, including child and adolescent populations. Due to my experience with this unique population, I have extensive experience in treating individuals with trauma.

I have held an academic appointment at Baptist Memorial Hospital where I enjoyed teaching and supervising medical residents and fellows in training. I most recently served as the Regional Behavioral Health Medical Director for a group of mental health clinics throughout Tennessee, and as the Chief of Psychiatric Services for a residential treatment facility in Mississippi that also had Partial Hospital and Intensive Outpatient Programming (PHP/IOP).

I earned my medical degree from Western University of Health Sciences College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific Northwest in Oregon, where I studied osteopathic medicine, which shaped my holistic view of health. I completed an intern year in Family Medicine at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences West. I hold a bachelor's degree in chemistry and biology from the University of Arkansas, where I graduated with honors.

Outside of work, I enjoy hiking, backpacking, visiting national parks, and spending time with my senior dog.

I most recently served as medical director for clinical services at Erlanger Behavioral Health Hospital in Chattanooga, TN. After several years of private practice, I served as Chief of Inpatient Psychiatric Services and then as Chief of Psychiatry at Mountain Home VA Medical Center. During my time at Mountain Home VA, I was also a Professor of Psychiatry at Quillen Medical School at East Tennessee State University, where I taught General Psychiatry courses and the Neurosciences of Psychiatry. I have an extensive psychiatric background in practice and as a teacher.

I am a Distinguished Life Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and a Past President of both the Tennessee Psychiatric Association and the Southern Psychiatric Association. I have been awarded a Distinguished Service Award from the United States Public Health Service. I have been twice named the Outstanding Teacher Award from the ETSU Psychiatry Residency program and was awarded Course Director of the Year for the Neurosciences residency course I developed. I also hold an Irma J. Bland Award for Excellence in Psychiatric Education from the APA.

I am joining the Talkiatry team after working as a staff psychiatrist at the Durham VA, where I also served as a consulting professor for the Duke psychiatry residency program.

I am a board-certified General and Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist with over nine years of experience. My practice focuses on medication management, which is founded not only on evidence-based medicine but also on the understanding that a trusting therapeutic relationship is the cornerstone of behavioral health healing. I incorporate CBT, supportive therapy, and psychoeducation into my medication management appointments and may refer patients for additional psychotherapy to improve outcomes. I believe a whole-person approach with open, collaborative teamwork is the key to progress.

I received my Bachelor of Science degree from Ursinus College, with a dual major in Biochemistry/Molecular Biology and Neuroscience. After receiving a Health Professions Scholarship from the Army, I obtained my medical degree from Jefferson Medical College. I went on to enter active duty military service and complete General Psychiatry residency training and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry fellowship training at Tripler Army Medical Center before completing active duty service as a staff psychiatrist and 101st Airborne Division psychiatrist at Fort Campbell, KY. There I cared for active duty service members and their families to manage depression, anxiety, trauma, and the unique stressors of military service.

I later transitioned to federal civilian service and served as a preceptor for Phase II Physician Assistant trainees and Army Social Work interns, reinforcing a passion for education that carried me to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNMMC). During my time at WRNMMC, I served in several roles including Deputy Medical Director of Inpatient Psychiatry, core faculty for the National Capital Consortium Psychiatry Residency Program, Associate Program Director, and associate faculty at the Uniform Services University for Health Sciences (USUHS). Prior to transitioning out of federal service to join Talkiatry, I was repeatedly recognized for excellence in academics and mentorship and received multiple teaching awards. This zeal for education and mentorship, as well as humility, personal growth, and learning, translates directly into my philosophy for patient care.
