I bring a calm, kind, thoughtful, and thorough approach to my work. I prioritize creating a safe and supportive space where patients feel respected and understood, helping them feel comfortable sharing openly as they move toward recovery and personal growth. I draw on experience with psychodynamic psychotherapy, CBT, and ACT to provide well-rounded, evidence-based care.

In the initial session, I carefully listen to each patient's concerns, explore their history, and work to understand their goals. I provide a clear assessment and explanation before collaborating on a personalized treatment plan. My process is rooted in open communication, shared decision-making, and a commitment to empowering patients in their journey toward wellness.

I earned my medical degree from Cardiff University in Wales, United Kingdom, and practiced in both inpatient and outpatient settings in the UK and Australia before moving to the United States. I completed my psychiatry residency at Tufts Medical Center in Boston and a fellowship in forensic psychiatry at the University of Colorado. I am board certified in Psychiatry and Neurology.

I am a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner (PMHNP) with over 20 years of experience across a variety of clinical settings, including outpatient care, inpatient psychiatric facilities, private practice, consult-liaison psychiatry, and telepsychiatry. I have worked with individuals across the lifespan. I practice evidence-based medication management and incorporate supportive counseling and psychoeducation into every session. I believe that empowering patients through education is essential to improving mental health outcomes. My work begins with building a strong, respectful therapeutic relationship based on collaboration and shared decision-making. I took a non-traditional path to medical school. I earned my undergraduate degree in nursing at Northern Michigan University, where I also did Army ROTC and competed on their cross-country ski team. I believe that addressing mental health is just as important as addressing physical health. My practice focuses on medication management, often combined with supportive or cognitive behavioral therapy, with an emphasis on integrating medication management with individual therapy to provide comprehensive, patient-centered care. I provide care for individuals with a wide range of mental health conditions, including depression, anxiety, substance use disorders, ADHD, bipolar disorder, OCD, schizoaffective disorder, and schizophrenia.

I am a board-certified psychiatric nurse practitioner (PMHNP) with 18 years of experience in outpatient psychiatry. I earned my Master of Science in Nursing with a specialty in adult psychiatry from the University of Massachusetts Lowell and my Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Massachusetts Boston. I am trained in psychiatric diagnosis, medication management, and both psychodynamic and cognitive-behavioral therapies.

Over the past 18 years, I have gained extensive experience evaluating and treating adults in outpatient settings. I previously worked at Arbour HRI Outpatient Clinic in Massachusetts and, for the past decade, have served patients at Memorial Healthcare System in Florida. At Memorial Healthcare System, I collaborated with the Mind-Body Wellness Clinic to support both the medical and psychiatric needs of my patients. I have also contributed to the training of psychiatric and internal medicine residents in outpatient psychiatry.

I believe in a comprehensive approach to treatment that integrates medications, therapy, and lifestyle interventions. While medications can be very effective, I view them as just one part of a broader treatment plan tailored to each patient's needs. I emphasize individualized care and see treatment as a team effort, meeting patients where they are and progressing at a pace they feel ready for. I strive to create a warm, collaborative environment that fosters open communication and genuine connection. I may challenge patients therapeutically, but always with careful attention to their readiness and comfort. My goal is to build trust so that meaningful conversations and progress can occur. For me, success is always shared: when patients succeed, we succeed together; when challenges arise, we regroup and move forward together.

I have worked across outpatient, inpatient, and consult liaison settings, and have experience treating a wide range of conditions including depression, anxiety, ADHD, OCD, personality disorders, and transitional age concerns. I also have expertise working with LGBTQIA+ patients and provide psychodynamic, CBT, and supportive therapies.

I earned my medical degree from the University of Florida College of Medicine, where I also completed my psychiatry residency. During training, I was recognized with multiple awards, including the Malcom Randall VA Resident of the Year Award, the Ross A. McElroy Psychotherapy Award, and the John "J.D." Dorian Award for best sense of humor.

I use an integrative approach to health in my psychiatric practice, combining evidence-based concepts in neurobiology with psychological, social, and spiritual/existential worldviews to understand and treat every patient. My primary practice is medication management, and I also integrate elements of psychotherapy into my work, typically within 30-minute follow-up visits. In addition to medication and psychotherapy, I incorporate wellness tools into visits, such as mindfulness exercises and sleep management strategies. If I believe that additional psychotherapy is needed, I will recommend that you add a therapist to your care team. My primary focus is working with adults with mood and anxiety disorders, trauma symptoms, ADHD, and problems with sleep. I enjoy working with people facing life transitions, especially older adults and women who are struggling with mental health challenges related to pregnancy and post-partum health. I have extensive experience working with people from many stages of life, with diverse world views and cultural backgrounds. I have always had an inclusive practice and welcome people who identify as LBGTQIA+.

I am board certified in Adult Psychiatry and Sleep Medicine. I received my medical degree from Weill Cornell Medical School and my PhD in Neurobiology from The Rockefeller University. I have published and presented widely on topics related to Wellness in Psychiatry, Ethics, and Sleep Medicine. I am an advocate for finding your voice in medical decision-making. As part of my own life path, I became an Interfaith Minister and enjoy including spirituality and the supportive role it can play in healing for my patients. I also enjoy using sound healing for relaxation and stress management.

I primarily focus on medication management for general psychiatric conditions. My approach is individualized, ensuring that each patient receives a treatment plan tailored to their unique needs. I integrate supportive therapy, medications, and evidence-based alternative therapies to provide a flexible and comprehensive approach. In addition to my general practice, I maintain a psychodynamic psychotherapy panel where I help patients explore developmental and relational patterns that contribute to their symptoms. My specialties include treating depression, anxiety, adjustment disorders, PTSD, insomnia, bipolar disorder, and ADHD.

I am a board-certified psychiatrist. I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology from the University of Colorado at Boulder and went on to obtain a master's degree in Medical Science from Loyola University Chicago. I completed my medical training at the Robert Larner, M.D. College of Medicine at The University of Vermont and returned to Colorado for my psychiatry residency at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. While in residency, I specialized in the Psychotherapy Scholars Program and have since gained four years of experience treating psychiatric conditions through telehealth.

During the first visit, patients can expect a one-hour comprehensive intake during which I thoroughly evaluate their symptoms, medical history, and personal goals. I provide treatment options that prioritize flexibility, allowing patients to take an active role in their care. Follow-up visits typically last 20 to 30 minutes, focusing on assessing treatment progress and making necessary adjustments. For those engaged in psychodynamic psychotherapy, longer one-hour sessions are available for in-depth exploration of underlying psychological patterns.

FAQs

How does Talkiatry work?

Talkiatry is an online psychiatry practice designed to make high-quality mental health care more accessible. We’re 100% virtual, in-network with major insurance plans, and first appointments are typically available in days.

To get started, you’ll complete a quick online assessment to tell us what you’re looking for. We’ll match you with psychiatrists who are licensed in your state, in-network with your insurance, and experienced in treating your concerns. You’ll choose the clinician you’d like to work with.

Your first visit is an in-depth evaluation where your psychiatrist will listen, provide a diagnosis, and work with you to create a treatment plan tailored to your goals and preferences. You’ll continue seeing the same clinician over time, adjusting your plan as your needs evolve. Our team is always here to help with scheduling, insurance, and questions about your care.

Do you provide therapy?

Care at Talkiatry starts with psychiatry. If you already have a Talkiatry psychiatrist, they can refer you to one of our therapists if you’ve decided together that therapy is the right next step. However, you can’t see a Talkiatry therapist if you aren’t already seeing one of our psychiatrists.

What should I do if I’m having an emergency?

Talkiatry does not provide emergency care. If you or someone you know is in crisis, please visit your nearest emergency room, call 911, or call or text the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline at 988.

How much will my visit cost?

The majority of our visits cost patients $25 or less after insurance*, but your exact out-of-pocket cost depends on your plan. The best way to get a clear estimate is to contact your insurance provider directly. Here’s what to ask them:

  • Do I have mental health benefits that include outpatient psychiatry?
  • Is Talkiatry in-network for my plan?
  • What’s my copay or coinsurance for outpatient psychiatry visits?
  • Do I have a deductible? If so, how close am I to meeting it?
  • Do I have an out-of-pocket maximum? If so, how close am I to reaching it?
  • Are virtual or telehealth psychiatry visits covered the same as in-person care?
  • Is prior authorization required for outpatient psychiatry?
  • Can you provide a cost estimate for an in-network psychiatry visit using CPT code 99204?
  • Can you provide a cost estimate for an in-network psychotherapy visit using CPT code 90833?

*Includes all patient costs from 9/24-9/25: copayment, deductible, coinsurance, and $0 payments. Excludes missed appt. fees.  Your medical visit costs can vary depending on insurance coverage.

What if I don’t want to take medication?

Psychiatrists are medical doctors, and medication is often part of how they treat mental health conditions. At Talkiatry, your psychiatrist will start by listening and discussing your options with you. Medication is always your choice, but if it’s not something you’re open to considering, we may not be the best fit for ongoing care at this time.

How do I know if Talkiatry can help me?

Talkiatry provides virtual, in-network psychiatric care for people struggling with mild to moderate mental health issues. Here’s what we can help with:

  • Anxiety
  • ADHD (attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder)
  • Bipolar disorder
  • Child & adolescent care
  • Depression
  • OCD (obsessive-compulsive disorder)
  • Pregnancy & postpartum care
  • PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder)
  • Substance use disorder

Our goal is to connect you with the best possible care for you. At your first visit, your doctor will confirm whether Talkiatry is the right fit. If they recommend in-person or higher-level care, they’ll guide you to the appropriate resources.

What if my insurance changes from Cigna?

Insurance changes are common, and we’re here to help. Talkiatry is in-network with thousands of plans. If your insurance changes, reach out to a Care Coordinator to update your information and confirm your coverage by calling 833-351-TALK (8255).

Do I still take the assessment if I’m already diagnosed with depression?

Yes. Our online assessment is an important part of how we match you with the right psychiatrist. Your first visit will include a thorough evaluation so your psychiatrist can confirm your diagnosis and tailor your treatment plan to your current needs.
