My philosophy includes a healing-oriented approach that considers the whole person, including all lifestyle aspects. I aim to provide collaborative and comprehensive care, which may include medication management, lifestyle interventions, stress reduction techniques, and other integrative approaches. I employ pharmacotherapy along with supportive therapy and integrative approaches, and I believe that building a strong therapeutic relationship where the patient feels empowered is the key to healing.

I am double Board Certified in Psychiatry and Lifestyle Medicine. I completed my psychiatry residency training at the University of Maryland/Sheppard Pratt, where I served as the chief resident. I am currently working on completing my Ph.D. in Integrative Medicine. I have more than five years of experience treating patients with anxiety, depression, PTSD, Bipolar, OCD, ADHD, and other mental health issues, and I have practiced in various settings over my career, including working for the Department of Defense, private practice, and community mental health. My practice focuses on using an integrated approach to the understanding and treatment of individuals' psychosocial stresses and psychiatric symptoms. I am a general psychiatrist with a focus on anxiety disorders, OCD, and mood disorders, and I am interested in the impact of trauma and personality. I have extensive experience working with young adults, and clinically I have experience working with people with significant mood and anxiety difficulties. My sessions are usually 30 minutes. I frequently suggest including a family member or friend in at least one session to get a comprehensive sense of each person's strengths and challenges.

I received my medical degree from NYU and completed my psychiatric residency at Mt. Sinai Hospital. I spent a number of years in the Brown system, as Training Director for the Brown Psychiatry Residency and as Vice-Chair of the Brown Department of Psychiatry. For several years, I served as Chair of the Department of Psychiatry at Mt. Sinai West/St. Lukes', prior to my position at McLean Hospital, where I was Clinical Director of the Depression and Anxiety Division, overseeing the integration of clinical work, faculty development, and research in the division. I have worked primarily with outpatients, with the exception of a recent period of residential work at the Pavilion at McLean Hospital.

My practice emphasizes Diagnostic Clarification, which is an ongoing process. I am highly trained and experienced in the biological and psychosocial underpinnings of psychiatric problems. I typically follow diagnostic evaluations with 30-minute follow up visits for medication adjustments and brief therapy, and I often enjoy collaborating with outside therapists when needed. My practice has always combined medications with evidence-based therapies to alleviate suffering and maximize functioning.

I am Board Certified in Adult Psychiatry and Addiction Medicine. I have practiced general psychiatry for 37 years and have also sub-specialized in Addiction Psychiatry for the past 20 years. I graduated from Amherst College and received my medical degree from NY Medical College. I subsequently completed my residency in psychiatry at the Mount Sinai Medical Center in NYC, where I excelled in Academic Psychiatry as both a teacher and a mentor.

In addition to my work as a Board Certified Adult Psychiatrist, I have specialized in helping patients suffering from Substance Use Disorders. I am Board Certified in Addiction Medicine and help patients understand the interrelationships between their Substance Use Disorders and their Psychiatric illnesses.

I am a staff psychiatrist at Talkiatry, board-certified in adult psychiatry. My practice is focused primarily on medication management, which I combine with a therapeutic style that blends supportive therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and motivational interviewing. Follow-up appointments with me typically last 20–30 minutes. While I am trained in a variety of therapeutic techniques, I work collaboratively with therapists and may recommend their inclusion as part of your treatment team, depending on your individualized treatment plan.

I attended the University of Connecticut School of Medicine, where I received my medical degree, and completed my psychiatry residency at Stony Brook University Hospital in New York. I have received several awards for teaching and the treatment of chronically ill patients, including Stony Brook University's "William Turner Award" for excellence in education and leadership. Post residency, I worked with general adult patients as well as older adults at Manchester Memorial Hospital, where I served as both an outpatient psychiatrist and Director of the Geriatric Intensive Outpatient Program.

Although I do not treat child or adolescent patients, I have experience working with people of all ages, from young adults to adults. I have experience treating mood disorders, anxiety disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder, patients in the perinatal period, and patients with co-occurring substance use disorders. I have regularly managed behavioral problems in adults with autism spectrum disorders as well as dementia. I particularly enjoy working with patients dealing with life or role transitions, older adults, and patients with bipolar or other affective disorders.

My primary focus is on medication management, though I also have experience working in four different outpatient clinics where I have gained expertise in multiple different therapy modalities. If appropriate, I will refer you for psychotherapy and collaborate with your therapist to support your care. I appreciate the importance of fostering a meaningful therapeutic relationship, and my goal is to make every patient feel welcomed in a non-judgmental treatment environment. I also take a holistic approach, as I understand that good health creates a sense of overall well-being and improved mental health. I strongly emphasize the importance of mindfulness, self-compassion, exercise, nutrition, and interpersonal relationships throughout treatment.

I am a board-certified adult psychiatrist and board-certified child and adolescent psychiatrist. I completed my medical education at Cooper Medical School of Rowan University, then completed my residency in adult psychiatry at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai Beth Israel, and went on to complete my child and adolescent psychiatry fellowship at NYU Langone and Bellevue Hospital. During this time, I also taught a course titled Love Actually at NYU School of Arts and Science. I believe that integrating therapy, psychopharmacology, and lifestyle modifications can lead to the greatest gains in emotional wellness, and that working collaboratively with patients leads to the best outcome. I have worked with a diverse patient population, but especially enjoy working with patients with mood disorders, anxiety, and ADHD. I offer supportive therapy in conjunction with psychopharmacology. In cases in which a patient would benefit from more intensive therapy than what could be done in 20-25 minute visits, I may recommend adjunctive therapy with a licensed therapist.

I am a board-certified adult psychiatrist who graduated from SUNY Downstate Medical Center and completed my residency training at UMass Medical Center, where I served as chief resident during my final year. I have worked with patients in a variety of treatment settings, including inpatient, partial hospital programs, community mental health centers, and outpatient.

I use an integrative approach to health in my psychiatric practice, combining evidence-based concepts in neurobiology with psychological, social, and spiritual/existential worldviews to understand and treat every patient. My primary practice is medication management, and I also integrate elements of psychotherapy into my work, typically within 30-minute follow-up visits. FAQs

How does Talkiatry work?

Talkiatry is an online psychiatry practice designed to make high-quality mental health care more accessible. We’re 100% virtual, in-network with major insurance plans, and first appointments are typically available in days.

To get started, you’ll complete a quick online assessment to tell us what you’re looking for. We’ll match you with psychiatrists who are licensed in your state, in-network with your insurance, and experienced in treating your concerns. You’ll choose the clinician you’d like to work with.

Your first visit is an in-depth evaluation where your psychiatrist will listen, provide a diagnosis, and work with you to create a treatment plan tailored to your goals and preferences. You’ll continue seeing the same clinician over time, adjusting your plan as your needs evolve. Our team is always here to help with scheduling, insurance, and questions about your care.

Do you provide therapy?

Care at Talkiatry starts with psychiatry. If you already have a Talkiatry psychiatrist, they can refer you to one of our therapists if you’ve decided together that therapy is the right next step. However, you can’t see a Talkiatry therapist if you aren’t already seeing one of our psychiatrists.

What should I do if I’m having an emergency?

Talkiatry does not provide emergency care. If you or someone you know is in crisis, please visit your nearest emergency room, call 911, or call or text the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline at 988.

How much will my visit cost?

The majority of our visits cost patients $25 or less after insurance*, but your exact out-of-pocket cost depends on your plan. The best way to get a clear estimate is to contact your insurance provider directly. Here’s what to ask them:

  • Do I have mental health benefits that include outpatient psychiatry?
  • Is Talkiatry in-network for my plan?
  • What’s my copay or coinsurance for outpatient psychiatry visits?
  • Do I have a deductible? If so, how close am I to meeting it?
  • Do I have an out-of-pocket maximum? If so, how close am I to reaching it?
  • Are virtual or telehealth psychiatry visits covered the same as in-person care?
  • Is prior authorization required for outpatient psychiatry?
  • Can you provide a cost estimate for an in-network psychiatry visit using CPT code 99204?
  • Can you provide a cost estimate for an in-network psychotherapy visit using CPT code 90833?

*Includes all patient costs from 9/24-9/25: copayment, deductible, coinsurance, and $0 payments. Excludes missed appt. fees.  Your medical visit costs can vary depending on insurance coverage.

What if I don’t want to take medication?

Psychiatrists are medical doctors, and medication is often part of how they treat mental health conditions. At Talkiatry, your psychiatrist will start by listening and discussing your options with you. Medication is always your choice, but if it’s not something you’re open to considering, we may not be the best fit for ongoing care at this time.

How do I know if Talkiatry can help me?

Talkiatry provides virtual, in-network psychiatric care for people struggling with mild to moderate mental health issues. Here’s what we can help with:

  • Anxiety
  • ADHD (attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder)
  • Bipolar disorder
  • Child & adolescent care
  • Depression
  • OCD (obsessive-compulsive disorder)
  • Pregnancy & postpartum care
  • PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder)
  • Substance use disorder

Our goal is to connect you with the best possible care for you. At your first visit, your doctor will confirm whether Talkiatry is the right fit. If they recommend in-person or higher-level care, they’ll guide you to the appropriate resources.

Do I still take the assessment if I’m already diagnosed with bipolar disorder?

Yes. Our online assessment is an important part of how we match you with the right psychiatrist. Your first visit will include a thorough evaluation so your psychiatrist can confirm your diagnosis and tailor your treatment plan to your current needs.
