My practice focuses on using an integrated approach to the understanding and treatment of individuals' psychosocial stresses and psychiatric symptoms. I am a general psychiatrist with a focus on anxiety disorders, OCD, and mood disorders, and I am interested in the impact of trauma and personality. I have extensive experience working with young adults, and clinically I have experience working with people with significant mood and anxiety difficulties. My sessions are usually 30 minutes. I frequently suggest including a family member or friend in at least one session to get a comprehensive sense of each person's strengths and challenges.

I received my medical degree from NYU and completed my psychiatric residency at Mt. Sinai Hospital. I spent a number of years in the Brown system, as Training Director for the Brown Psychiatry Residency and as Vice-Chair of the Brown Department of Psychiatry. For several years, I served as Chair of the Department of Psychiatry at Mt. Sinai West/St. Lukes', prior to my position at McLean Hospital, where I was Clinical Director of the Depression and Anxiety Division, overseeing the integration of clinical work, faculty development, and research in the division. I have worked primarily with outpatients, with the exception of a recent period of residential work at the Pavilion at McLean Hospital.

I am board certified in adult psychiatry and focus on medication management, which I offer alongside supportive psychotherapy in 30-minute follow-up visits. For some patients, it may be important to bring in additional psychotherapy for well-rounded care. My fellowship in consultation-liaison psychiatry enables me to treat patients with a variety of medical comorbidities confidently.

I received my medical degree from St. George's University in Grenada and completed my training in general adult psychiatry at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York. I then completed a fellowship in consultation-liaison psychiatry at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York. After completing my training, I worked on an inpatient psychiatric unit before deciding to transition into outpatient psychiatric care.

I look forward to a collaborative relationship with my patients.

I believe that understanding and compassion are fundamental to effective psychiatric care. I provide engaged, patient-centered treatment, focusing on reducing symptoms and restoring well-being. My approach includes comprehensive evaluations, thoughtful medication management, supportive therapy, and the development of stress management skills. I treat youth ages 13–17 and adults with anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, ADHD, PTSD, and other mental health conditions. For adolescent patients, I include parental involvement during a portion of appointments to discuss progress and treatment plans.

During the first visit, patients can expect a comprehensive evaluation in which I take time to understand their symptoms, history, and goals. I foster a collaborative and compassionate environment, ensuring that treatment plans are personalized and patient-centered. My approach may include medication management, therapy recommendations, and stress management techniques to support patients in achieving their mental health and well-being goals.

I am a board-certified psychiatrist specializing in child, adolescent, and adult psychiatry with over 20 years of clinical experience. I earned my medical degree from the University of Chicago, Pritzker School of Medicine and completed my adult, child, and adolescent psychiatry training at NYU School of Medicine. I also have specialized training in psychodynamic psychotherapy from the New York Psychoanalytic Institute. Before joining Talkiatry, I served as Chief of Adult Behavioral Health at a busy urban community health clinic.

I believe the human spirit is resilient. There are many challenges in the lifespan and self-care is paramount to success. I provide psychiatric consultation and assessment and a pathway to change. Treatment may include medication management, therapy, and coping skills to assist with life challenges. I believe treatment is a partnership and believe in establishing mutually agreed upon goals. My process for working with patients begins with active listening. The assessment begins with the patient describing why they are seeking engagement in behavioral health treatment at this time. I complete a psychiatric assessment and evaluation and establish mutually agreed upon goals for treatment. I offer medication management in conjunction with supportive therapy in 30-minute follow-up visits. I believe therapy and medication management, if indicated, together provide the best treatment outcomes.

I am an experienced board certified psychiatric APRN/psychiatric nurse practitioner with over 30 years' experience in my field. I completed my graduate work at Columbia University and am published in my field. My practice sites have included inpatient hospital treatment, partial hospital programs, in-home programs, outpatient clinics, and alternative therapy including equine assisted therapy. I was the program director and clinician with the Ryan White Mental Health Program in New York, providing innovative mental health treatment for adolescents and adults living with HIV/AIDS in the boroughs of Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn, and the Bronx. In 2013 I became certified as an equine assisted psychotherapist and served as the Director of Mental Health at Embrace Hope in Sandy Hook, CT. I was appointed as the Executive Director of Embrace Hope in 2017. Embrace Hope provided treatment to children, adolescents, and adults who were victims of trauma related to the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School. I presented a TEDx talk in 2018 regarding my work with victims of trauma. I have provided treatment in the outpatient setting for children, teens, and adults, and have provided treatment to young adults at the Covenant House New York shelter program for homeless young adults.

My practice focuses on medication management, though I believe in the importance of both therapy and medication management in treating mental illness. I offer medication management with supportive therapy in 30-minute follow up visits, and I also utilize referrals to therapists to enhance collaborative care and management of illness. I focus on treating patients with depression and anxiety disorders. I believe in a holistic, patient-centered approach to care and encourage patients to explore their physical, emotional, social, and spiritual needs in addition to their mental health. I believe in the importance of building a strong therapeutic relationship.

I am a board-certified psychiatrist starting my post-graduate practice with Talkiatry. After completing an undergraduate degree in psychology at Johns Hopkins University, I completed my medical degree at Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences. My goal is to work with clients to create a safe, non-judgmental, and collaborative treatment environment that promotes sustained healing and positive self-development. Although I specialize in medication management of psychiatric conditions, supportive psychotherapy is often incorporated into my visits, as I believe a combined approach leads to a more robust treatment response. Additionally, I aim to enhance wellness through discussion of lifestyle modifications that emphasize quality sleep, a healthy diet, and regular exercise.

Initial appointments consist of a psychiatric evaluation and discussion of evidence-based treatment options. If telehealth is deemed to be an appropriate modality and pharmacotherapy is recommended, discussion will consist of selecting a suitable medication to address target symptoms while minimizing adverse effects. Follow-up visits focus on assessing treatment response and adjusting regimens to optimize outcomes.

I earned my medical degree from the University of Arizona College of Medicine - Tucson and completed my residency at the University of Arizona College of Medicine - Phoenix. I am board-certified in psychiatry and provide care for adult patient populations. Prior to my career in medicine, I proudly served in the U.S. Air Force.

FAQs

How does Talkiatry work?

Talkiatry is an online psychiatry practice designed to make high-quality mental health care more accessible. We’re 100% virtual, in-network with major insurance plans, and first appointments are typically available in days.

To get started, you’ll complete a quick online assessment to tell us what you’re looking for. We’ll match you with psychiatrists who are licensed in your state, in-network with your insurance, and experienced in treating your concerns. You’ll choose the clinician you’d like to work with.

Your first visit is an in-depth evaluation where your psychiatrist will listen, provide a diagnosis, and work with you to create a treatment plan tailored to your goals and preferences. You’ll continue seeing the same clinician over time, adjusting your plan as your needs evolve. Our team is always here to help with scheduling, insurance, and questions about your care.

Do you provide therapy?

Care at Talkiatry starts with psychiatry. If you already have a Talkiatry psychiatrist, they can refer you to one of our therapists if you’ve decided together that therapy is the right next step. However, you can’t see a Talkiatry therapist if you aren’t already seeing one of our psychiatrists.

What should I do if I’m having an emergency?

Talkiatry does not provide emergency care. If you or someone you know is in crisis, please visit your nearest emergency room, call 911, or call or text the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline at 988.

How much will my visit cost?

The majority of our visits cost patients $25 or less after insurance*, but your exact out-of-pocket cost depends on your plan. The best way to get a clear estimate is to contact your insurance provider directly. Here’s what to ask them:

  • Do I have mental health benefits that include outpatient psychiatry?
  • Is Talkiatry in-network for my plan?
  • What’s my copay or coinsurance for outpatient psychiatry visits?
  • Do I have a deductible? If so, how close am I to meeting it?
  • Do I have an out-of-pocket maximum? If so, how close am I to reaching it?
  • Are virtual or telehealth psychiatry visits covered the same as in-person care?
  • Is prior authorization required for outpatient psychiatry?
  • Can you provide a cost estimate for an in-network psychiatry visit using CPT code 99204?
  • Can you provide a cost estimate for an in-network psychotherapy visit using CPT code 90833?

*Includes all patient costs from 9/24-9/25: copayment, deductible, coinsurance, and $0 payments. Excludes missed appt. fees.  Your medical visit costs can vary depending on insurance coverage.

What if I don’t want to take medication?

Psychiatrists are medical doctors, and medication is often part of how they treat mental health conditions. At Talkiatry, your psychiatrist will start by listening and discussing your options with you. Medication is always your choice, but if it’s not something you’re open to considering, we may not be the best fit for ongoing care at this time.

How do I know if Talkiatry can help me?

Talkiatry provides virtual, in-network psychiatric care for people struggling with mild to moderate mental health issues. Here’s what we can help with:

  • Anxiety
  • ADHD (attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder)
  • Bipolar disorder
  • Child & adolescent care
  • Depression
  • OCD (obsessive-compulsive disorder)
  • Pregnancy & postpartum care
  • PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder)
  • Substance use disorder

Our goal is to connect you with the best possible care for you. At your first visit, your doctor will confirm whether Talkiatry is the right fit. If they recommend in-person or higher-level care, they’ll guide you to the appropriate resources.

What if my insurance changes from Cigna?

Insurance changes are common, and we’re here to help. Talkiatry is in-network with thousands of plans. If your insurance changes, reach out to a Care Coordinator to update your information and confirm your coverage by calling 833-351-TALK (8255).

Do I still take the assessment if I’m already diagnosed with bipolar disorder?

Yes. Our online assessment is an important part of how we match you with the right psychiatrist. Your first visit will include a thorough evaluation so your psychiatrist can confirm your diagnosis and tailor your treatment plan to your current needs.
