In an initial visit, patients can expect a thorough, collaborative discussion with shared decision making to understand their symptoms, life goals, and clinical needs. Typical follow-up visits are approximately 20-30 minutes in length. I grew up in southeastern Idaho. I earned a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology from the University of California at Berkeley in 2009 and my Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree in 2014 from the University of Chicago. I completed my psychiatry residency at the University of Utah in 2018 and became board certified in Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in 2019. Following my residency, I worked as an inpatient psychiatrist at the Huntsman Mental Health Institute in Salt Lake City, Utah and served as an assistant clinical professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Utah. In 2021 I moved to Dallas, Texas to work in a residential and partial hospitalization treatment center for eating disorders.

I learned firsthand that implementing mental health awareness, screening, and education into a primary medically focused practice led to more favorable outcomes. Many mental health conditions can manifest as and/or exacerbate a variety of medical/physical conditions and thereby go undiagnosed and untreated. I have worked closely and coordinated care within the medical field and with other specialists in treating and diagnosing comorbid mental health conditions.

While in private practice for over 10 years, I was also an attending and consultant for inpatient mental health care and provided mental health services for residents in various residential care facilities, group homes, and skilled nursing facilities. Over the past 5 years I have consolidated my practice and am presently employed with Compass Health Network in Missouri, helping bridge the gap in mental health care by coordinating and providing care to the underserved community.

During the pandemic, I transitioned to telehealth and have been dedicated to this field for the past four years. My academic journey began as a physics major at UNM; I then studied biophysics at the University of San Diego, California. During my postdoctoral fellowship at Los Alamos National Laboratories, I was inspired by presentations about professionals working with patients in African countries, which sparked my interest in medicine.

Prior to joining Talkiatry, I was working at Hartford Healthcare with adults in intensive outpatient programs and at Hackensack Meridian Health outpatient clinics. I was the medical director of the Consultation Liaison Service at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, and an assistant professor at UMass Medical School.

I have published and presented widely on topics related to Wellness in Psychiatry, Ethics, and Sleep Medicine. I am an advocate for finding your voice in medical decision-making.
