Biography
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist, Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor, and Nationally Certified Counselor with experience in hospital, inpatient substance use and mental health stabilization, outpatient, private practice. I earned master’s degrees from Wake Forest University in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and Duke University in Divinity and am pursuing a doctorate at UNC Greensboro. As a Marine Corps combat veteran, former hospital chaplain and law enforcement officer, I bring a broad perspective to my work and provide services in Spanish and English.
I take a direct, transparent, and collaborative approach, focusing on understanding and addressing the root causes of symptoms while helping patients learn to manage them. I create a respectful space where patients can speak openly about difficult experiences, including trauma, while working together to establish realistic goals that support progress.
I begin with a thorough assessment of each patient’s history, concerns, and goals. I use standardized measures for depression, anxiety, grief, and trauma to establish baselines and track progress, then develop a treatment plan with clear, measurable goals. We review progress regularly and adjust treatment as needed, using evidence-based, trauma-informed approaches tailored to each patient.
