Biography

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor licensed in Georgia, South Carolina, and Kentucky. I have worked in psychiatric hospitals, domestic violence shelters, military installations, and community mental health facilities. I am a Nationally Certified Counselor with 10 years of experience supporting children, families, individuals, and military members through a variety of challenges. I received my Master of Arts in Counseling in 2016 from Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville, Tennessee.

I believe therapy should be a space where you can be your authentic self—a safe, judgment-free space where you feel respected, heard, and understood. My approach is client-centered, collaborative, and compassionate. I work with each client to understand their unique experiences, strengths, and goals. My goal is to help you better understand yourself, navigate challenges, increase your coping skills, and feel more confident moving forward.

I begin by taking time to get to know you and what brings you to therapy. Together, we will identify goals for therapy and explore your thoughts, emotions, and circumstances that may be impacting your well-being. We will work collaboratively to develop a treatment approach individualized to your needs, strengths, and goals.

I believe that connection is the foundation of positive growth, and I dedicate my work to providing a safe place for clients to engage in self-expression and to explore the particular challenges they face on a daily basis. My approach is client centered, focusing on evidenced based therapies such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR). I work with clients of all ages and encourage inclusion and diversity within families to promote individual growth.

I began my career as a social worker for hospice in 1999 and have extensive experience helping families cope with death and grief due to illness and/or trauma. Following that foundational work, I expanded my clinical knowledge and expertise in a variety of settings to include substance abuse, challenges related to ADHD, anxiety, depression, LGBTQIA+ issues, and navigating the foster care/adoption system.

One of my main goals is to make counseling and therapy "user friendly." Many people are apprehensive about starting therapy, and from the first session I try to create an atmosphere where they feel safe and supported. My counseling style is rooted in unconditional positive regard, meaning I always approach therapy from a strength-based perspective. I treat my clients with respect, genuine care, compassion, and concern, and I work with them to create goals and find solutions that best suit their needs. I also consider myself a holistic counselor, focusing on the whole person: mind, body, and spirit. As Plato said, 'The part can never be well unless the whole is well.'

I specialize in areas such as anxiety, depression, PTSD, trauma from physical and sexual abuse, family and relationship issues, parenting problems, and LGBTQIA+ support. I also have significant experience working with the military and providing education and career counseling. My professional journey has been eclectic and wide-ranging, allowing me to work with a diverse range of populations and issues.

I am a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor with an MA, licensed in both Kentucky and Ohio, and I am also a Board Certified-TeleMental Health Provider. Maya Angelou said, 'My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor, and some style.' My mission is to help you find the best way to overcome and thrive in your life.

I create a safe, nonjudgmental environment where patients are heard and validated, without needing to apologize for their pain or emotions. My therapeutic approach is collaborative: you actively work together with me to achieve your mental health goals, with progress reflecting the effort you put in. I begin by understanding your personal history to see how past experiences shape current behaviors and perspectives. Initial sessions focus on setting goals and identifying obstacles, followed by working together to overcome challenges and achieve those goals. This space encourages patients to express themselves authentically.

I earned my Bachelor's in Social Work from Augusta University and my Master's in Social Work from Barry University. I have extensive experience working with adults in inpatient and outpatient mental health and substance use settings, as well as in residential treatment for eating disorders.

I am passionate about creating a safe, unbiased, and nonjudgmental space where patients feel seen, heard, and empowered. I believe that life's challenges can shift our focus, and it is my privilege to provide support, encouragement, and practical tools to help patients navigate those moments. I work with young adults and adults, offering encouragement, guidance, and tools to help patients reach their personal goals. I view therapy as a collaborative process and emphasize building trust, honoring diverse perspectives, and ensuring patients feel comfortable. I balance directive strategies with exploratory work, adapting my methods based on what resonates with patients, and I regularly check in for feedback to ensure therapy remains meaningful and aligned with each person's goals.

New patients can expect a compassionate space to share their stories, identify goals, and gain a clear sense of what therapy with me will feel like. Above all, I strive to create a supportive, collaborative process where patients feel validated, respected, and empowered.

I received my Master's in Mental Health Counseling from Medaille College in Buffalo, NY, in 2011. I have provided outpatient therapy across a variety of settings, including ACTT services, group therapy focused on substance use, and individual therapy.

I understand that beginning counseling can feel intimidating, and I strive to create a safe, welcoming environment where therapy moves at the patient's pace. I primarily use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy while incorporating elements of Behavioral Therapy, Solution-Focused approaches, Strength-Based methods, Motivational Interviewing, and Dialectical Behavior Therapy. Drawing on my multicultural background, I respect and honor each individual's unique experiences and cultures. I believe no concern is too large or too small to address in therapy and emphasize collaboration at every stage.

I view the first appointment as a chance to build trust, explore how the patient and I can work together, and establish goals for therapy. I provide a clear framework for what to expect, welcome questions, and encourage open communication throughout the process. Understanding that sharing personal history can be difficult, I am committed to moving at a pace that feels comfortable and supportive for each patient.

I bring more than 20 years of experience to my work as a therapist, having served in inpatient, outpatient, emergency, hospital, and community mental health settings, as well as leadership roles such as managing the social services department at a crisis stabilization facility. I earned my MS in Clinical/Counseling Psychology and Ed.S. in School Psychology from Valdosta State University, and a BA in Psychology and Sociology from Loyola University in New Orleans. I hold licenses in Georgia, North Carolina, Florida, and South Carolina (LPC, LCMHC, LMHC, CPCS) and am also trained in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT).

I value an in-depth exploration of each patient's background and personal history to identify root concerns and establish specific, person-centered treatment goals. I foster a warm, supportive, and nonjudgmental environment where patients feel heard, respected, and safe. I provide thoughtful feedback to help patients discover their own solutions and offer education about diagnoses to empower patients to better understand and manage daily symptoms. I utilize evidence-based modalities including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and motivational interviewing to support patients in achieving meaningful and lasting change.

I begin care with a comprehensive assessment that explores a patient's history, current concerns, strengths, and goals. In collaboration with the patient, I develop an individualized treatment plan that aligns with the patient's needs and priorities, adapting the approach as progress is made.

I earned social work degrees from the University of Georgia and the University of South Carolina and have over 15 years of experience in the mental health field across inpatient and outpatient settings.
