Biography

My areas of professional focus are cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing (MI), and solution-focused therapy, along with integrating other clinical modalities to fit the needs of clients/patients as they work towards meeting goals/objectives.

I began my counseling career in 2013, and for the past 7 years I have worked in Outpatient Services, working with people of all ages and with all mental illnesses as well. Prior to outpatient services, I worked with in-home services, providing counseling services to individuals as well as their natural support system. I received my Undergraduate and Master's degree in Education and Human Services, completed in December 2013, at the University of Lindsey Wilson, Columbia, Kentucky. In June of 2021, I became Clinic Coordinator, and in October 2021 I completed training for Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor Supervisor. I am currently a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor in Texas and Kentucky.

I do not see my role as a therapist as needing to "save the world" or "empower clients." Instead, I believe in working alongside clients to help them identify tools within themselves and community resources to successfully achieve their goals. The types of therapy I offer include, but are not limited to, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Culturally Sensitive Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing, Multicultural Therapy, Person-Centered Therapy, and Solution-Focused Therapy. Alongside the use of evidenced-based practices and culturally informed care, I have developed a proven approach for helping clients (a) identify the root cause of their challenges and (b) create a tailored plan that leads to measurable progress.

I became a psychotherapist because I believe that mental health shapes and influences various aspects of life. Mental health is considered vital! I have been a Doctor of Social Work since 2021 and a Licensed Clinical Social Worker since 2019, with experience supporting children, adolescents, young adults, and adults with concerns such as trauma, substance abuse, intimate partner violence, depression, anxiety, PTSD, mood disorders, marital issues, and more. I have extensive experience in various settings including inpatient, outpatient, partial hospitalization (PHP), intensive outpatient (IOP), school settings, community-based settings, and emergency departments.

I practice from a biopsychosocial lens, integrating evidence-based treatments including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), and Strengths-Based Approaches to individualize treatment plans for each client. It is an important aspect of treatment to identify which approaches and interventions work best for each client's unique needs. Additionally, one of my biggest priorities is to create the space for each client to build a trusting, non-judgmental, and therapeutic relationship.

I am a licensed clinical social worker with a vast range of experience working in the mental health field. I attended Fordham University for my Bachelor's degree and Rutgers University, where I received my MSW. I fully embrace whole-person care and am passionate about understanding and supporting a client's lifestyle by exploring the six pillars associated with a client's well-being: healthy eating habits, physical activity, stress management, avoidance of risky substances, restorative sleep, and social connection. This passion for lifestyle medicine stems from my personal story of living with a chronic medical condition and overcoming many challenging obstacles. My services address stress management, relational health, effective communication, and conflict resolution. I am Gottman Level One and Two trained and am a certified relationship educator. My primary goal is to truly listen to your experience and help you work through it, creating a plan of action together. It is your therapy, and your active involvement is crucial. I have been specializing in grief work since 2012, and many of my clients are living with the loss of loved ones or experiencing other types of non-death loss, such as divorce, job loss, and other significant life changes. When dealing with grief, you may still be in pain and need to talk about it long after others want you to stop talking. This is when therapy can be helpful. Your grief journey is at your pace. I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Solution-Focused Therapy, along with other approaches that help you address loss and trauma in unique ways to begin to write your healing story. I have also worked with domestic violence survivors and child abuse survivors.

I have been a Licensed Professional Counselor for over 27 years. I graduated from Our Lady of the Lake University in 1993. I work with clients both in English and Spanish and have experience with immigrant populations from many countries. I am currently studying Internal Family Systems Therapy to help me provide you with new ways to address the challenges that bring you to therapy.
