Biography
Russell MacKay is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC), National Certified Counselor (NCC), and licensed Social Service Worker (SSW) with more than 20 years of behavioral health experience. He has worked in residential treatment, community mental health, outpatient counseling, juvenile justice, and higher education. He earned a master's degree in Mental Health Counseling from the University of Phoenix and completed doctoral studies in Counselor Education and Supervision at National Louis University. His clinical background includes EMDR, trauma-informed care, biofeedback, and individualized treatment planning.
Russell creates a warm, respectful, and nonjudgmental space where patients can speak openly and feel heard. His approach is collaborative, practical, and active, combining compassionate support with thoughtful challenges that promote meaningful change. He tailors treatment to each person's history, strengths, values, goals, and pace, and welcomes feedback throughout the process.
Russell begins by learning about each patient's current concerns, personal history, previous treatment, and goals. Together, they develop an individualized treatment plan with realistic, measurable objectives. Sessions may include psychoeducation, skill-building, cognitive and behavioral strategies, emotion regulation, experiential techniques, or trauma processing. Progress is reviewed regularly, and treatment is adjusted to meet evolving needs.
