Dr. Corey Greenwald, MD

I emphasize psychoeducation as a core part of care, ensuring patients are active participants in understanding and managing their mental health. I bring a deep interest in transcultural issues and in how social media and news cycles impact emotional well-being. I work collaboratively with patients to define or clarify concrete treatment goals by the end of the initial appointment, and I maintain a low threshold for revisiting and adjusting treatment plans if progress feels unsatisfactory, ensuring care remains flexible and effective. My informal, eclectic interpersonal style allows me to tailor my approach to each individual, fostering trust and partnership in the therapeutic process.

I am a board-certified psychiatrist with experience treating patients in both acute inpatient psychiatric emergencies and outpatient medication and psychotherapy settings. I earned my medical degree from Brown University, completed my internship in the Columbia system, and pursued residency training at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York City. I have practiced in academic, urban, suburban, and rural environments, which has given me broad perspective and adaptability in caring for diverse patient populations.

Having witnessed the effects of mental illness within my own family, I approach my work with empathy, insight, and a strong commitment to helping patients feel supported throughout their journey.

I value open, honest, and ongoing dialogue about how mental health treatment can improve wellbeing and lead to healing. Over time, I tailor treatment recommendations based on individual needs, which may include medication, therapy, lifestyle changes, or other approaches. I avoid a one-size-fits-all model and work to create an environment where patients feel respected, understood, and supported as unique individuals. In the first meeting, I work to understand each patient's goals, experiences, and preferences. Some arrive knowing what they want, while others are new to exploring mental health challenges. My goal is to meet patients where they are and adjust treatment focus as needs evolve. I emphasize collaborative decision-making, clearly discussing treatment options, pros and cons, and next steps, while ensuring patients feel informed and empowered throughout care.

I attended the Ohio State University College of Medicine, where I received my degree, before completing a residency in psychiatry at the University of Illinois, Chicago. After several years working with veterans at the Jesse Brown VA in Chicago, I returned to my home state of Iowa in 2022. Since then, I have continued to work with a wide variety of clients and conditions in both inpatient and outpatient settings, including at the University of Iowa and Clive Behavioral Health hospital.

New patients can expect me to respect their time and autonomy while working together to establish shared treatment goals. I value open candor and punctuality, aiming to create a therapeutic relationship grounded in mutual trust, transparency, and collaboration. During the first visit, I take a comprehensive history and background to determine if the therapeutic relationship is the right fit for both patient and provider. Ongoing care typically involves monthly appointments for medication management until stability is achieved, after which visits may shift to quarterly follow-ups. This structured yet flexible approach supports continuity and long-term well-being.

I completed undergraduate studies, medical school, and psychiatry residency training at Saint Louis University. Following training, I joined the Department of Veterans Affairs, where I provided care in an outpatient setting with both telehealth and in-person services. This experience has given me a strong clinical background and a dedication to supporting patients through accessible and personalized psychiatric care.

My clinical approach is grounded in psychodynamic psychotherapy, and I continually expand my knowledge by incorporating tools from a variety of therapeutic modalities. I am fascinated with the connectedness of the conscious and subconscious mind, body, and spirit, and I approach treatment through the lens of a growth mindset. I prioritize creating a safe space where patients can strengthen their courage to be vulnerable and authentic. I view therapy as a journey of helping patients explore their inner world, where I act as a mirror in order for patients to gain insight into their motivations, patterns, values, and higher purpose.

I prefer knowing my patients on a deep level and highly value the therapeutic process, which requires patience over speed. I acknowledge that it takes many sessions before even a preliminary understanding of the human being in front of me can be formulated. I honor the truth that my patients are the experts of themselves, and I prefer empowering them over micromanagement. As subconscious patterns emerge, I highlight these, as they are often blind spots to the patient. I understand that when it comes to mental health, quick fixes are not the most appropriate or effective means to healing. However, I respect the use of medications when indicated in addition to talk therapy.

I earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Nicholls State University and a Master of Science in Acupuncture from Texas Health and Science University. I completed both my MD and General Psychiatry training at Texas Tech Paul Foster School of Medicine, followed by specialized training in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the University of Texas School of Medicine.

I believe in building a collaborative therapeutic relationship grounded in respect and open communication. I strive to create a safe, supportive environment where patients of all ages — children, adolescents, and adults — feel heard and understood. I work to balance medical expertise with patient preferences, encouraging shared decision-making and honoring each individual's goals in treatment.

I begin with a thorough evaluation to gain a complete understanding of each patient's history, strengths, and challenges. From there, I develop a personalized treatment plan that may include therapy, medication management, and integration of other supportive resources. I am committed to ongoing follow-up, adjusting care as needed, and helping patients move toward lasting improvement in their mental health and overall well-being.

I am a board-certified psychiatrist with extensive experience treating patients across Indiana. I focus on compassionate, evidence-based care that integrates psychotherapy and psychotropic medications to promote recovery and growth. My collaborative and respectful style ensures patients feel heard while working toward meaningful goals. I emphasize setting clear expectations from the start to foster confidence and engagement. With my background in consultation-liaison psychiatry, I bring expertise in caring for individuals managing psychiatric conditions alongside significant medical illness.

The first appointment is a comprehensive evaluation, during which I carefully explore a patient's history, conditions, and symptoms. Based on this, I develop a personalized treatment plan and review it collaboratively, so expectations are clear. Future visits focus on monitoring progress, adjusting the plan as needed, and integrating both psychotherapy and medication management to best support the patient's needs and long-term growth.

I earned my medical degree from Ponce Health Sciences University, where I also served as Chief Resident in Psychiatry. I value therapeutic partnership, working with patients to balance symptom relief with meaningful self-exploration. I take a collaborative, patient-centered approach, creating a warm and nonjudgmental environment. I listen deeply, ask thoughtful questions, and encourage honest exploration of symptoms and underlying patterns. I value authenticity, curiosity, and respect for each patient's unique experiences. While symptom relief is important, my goal is to foster self-understanding and long-term growth. My expertise spans medication management, supportive therapy, and psychodynamic therapy, and I work best with patients open to collaboration and motivated for change, whether through medication management, therapy, or both.

I begin with a consultation phase to ensure a good fit, listening carefully to understand each patient's challenges and goals. Together, my patients and I build a working alliance by clarifying difficulties, identifying realistic changes, and exploring deeper patterns. When appropriate, I prescribe medication thoughtfully, aiming to support therapy rather than replace it. Each session integrates supportive and psychodynamic elements, combining medication review with therapeutic dialogue. Treatment plans are regularly revisited, allowing flexibility and growth, with the ultimate aim of empowering patients toward lasting change.

I earned my BS in Psychology from the University of California, Davis, and my MD from Ross University School of Medicine. I completed my psychiatry residency at Los Angeles County + University of Southern California Medical Center and a consultation-liaison psychiatry fellowship at Stanford University Medical Center. I am triple-board-certified in psychiatry, consultation-liaison psychiatry, and addiction medicine, and hold psychoanalytic psychotherapy training certification from the Psychoanalytic Center of California. I believe in a comprehensive approach to treatment that integrates medications, therapy, and lifestyle interventions. While medications can be very effective, I view them as just one part of a broader treatment plan tailored to each patient's needs. I emphasize individualized care and see treatment as a team effort, meeting patients where they are and progressing at a pace they feel ready for. I strive to create a warm, collaborative environment that fosters open communication and genuine connection. I may challenge patients therapeutically, but always with careful attention to their readiness and comfort. My goal is to build trust so that meaningful conversations and progress can occur. I am double board-certified in adult psychiatry and addiction medicine. My practice focuses on medication management of psychiatric illness without the use of controlled substances. Typically, I offer this in conjunction with supportive or emotionally focused therapy in 30-minute follow-up visits. However, occasionally I may believe that additional therapy is also needed and ask that you bring a therapist into your care team to provide the best outcome.

I believe that psychiatry should start with a thorough assessment to arrive at an accurate diagnosis, followed by a discussion with the patient of the different evidence-based options available, and then shared decision-making to arrive at an effective treatment plan to achieve the goals that the patient identifies as being important. This should be done in an honest, open, non-judgmental, but realistic environment, with the understanding that the ultimate goal is to get the patient to a position where they will no longer need medication and/or therapy.

Before joining Talkiatry, I was Medical Director of Advanced Psychiatric Services (complex/high profile cases) at Kings County Hospital and Unit Chief of the Covid-19 positive unit. I was also a clinical professor at Downstate Medical College, where I was voted educator of the year numerous times by psychiatric residents and medical students.

I am a graduate of the prestigious combined 6-year BS/MD program at The Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education. I did research at the neuropsychiatric branch of the National Institute of Mental Health, completed my psychiatric residency at St. Lukes/Roosevelt Hospital, and received my master's degree in public health from Columbia University.

I became a psychiatrist with one mission: to provide compassionate, high-quality mental health care accessible to anyone, anywhere. My approach emphasizes that patients are more than a diagnosis, focusing on the whole person, their story, struggles, and strengths. I partner with patients to create individualized therapeutic plans that may include medication management and holistic strategies. My goal is to promote mood stability, balance emotions, reduce anxiety, quiet overwhelming thoughts, resolve interpersonal conflicts, and strengthen resilience. I believe healing is best achieved through collaboration, open dialogue, and empowering patients to make informed choices about their care.

I am committed to meeting patients where they feel most comfortable, whether at home, work, or elsewhere. I offer the same compassion, attentiveness, and expertise as in-person care while removing barriers like travel, time constraints, and distance.

Originally from Pakistan, I pursued my undergraduate degree at Benedictine University in Illinois, medical school at Des Moines University in Iowa, and psychiatry residency at Trinity Health Livonia Hospital/Wayne State University in Michigan. I have experience in inpatient, outpatient, forensic, and community mental health settings.

I take a holistic approach to mental health, recognizing that there is no one-size-fits-all solution. I thoughtfully integrate medication when appropriate, alongside lifestyle changes, sleep, and stress management. I prioritize strong therapeutic relationships and use 30-minute follow-up visits that often include elements of psychotherapy. My clinical interests include mood disorders, OCD, women's mental health, and eating disorders.

In the first appointment, I gather a thorough psychiatric history, explore current symptoms, and learn about the patient's goals. I work collaboratively to develop personalized, evidence-based treatment plans, blending integrative psychiatry with ongoing support for long-term well-being.

I earned my medical degree from SUNY Downstate Medical Center and completed my psychiatry residency at the University of Maryland/Sheppard Pratt. I have worked across various clinical settings, including inpatient units, residential treatment centers, and substance use disorder clinics.

I foster an inclusive, nonjudgmental environment where patients feel safe to be themselves. I approach care with curiosity, compassion, and deep respect for each person's unique story, aiming to help individuals feel genuinely heard and supported throughout their treatment journey. In early sessions, I work collaboratively to understand patients' lives, goals, and challenges. While my focus is medication management, I integrate cognitive-behavioral, humanistic, and supportive techniques. I may recommend additional therapy as needed and particularly value working with youth and adults from diverse backgrounds.

I am board-certified in both adult and child & adolescent psychiatry. Originally from California, I earned my medical degree from University College Cork in Ireland and completed residency and fellowship at Emory University. I have practiced in varied settings, including developing specialized clinics in eating disorders and gender-affirming care. I am a member of several professional organizations including AACAP, APA, and WPATH.
