She will spend her time providing motivational interviewing or supportive therapy, and believes it is often critical to have a therapist as part of the treatment team. Dr. Person received her medical degree from Tulane University School of Medicine. My practice focuses on medication management, often combined with supportive or emotionally focused therapy during 30-minute follow-up visits. If I believe additional therapy would be beneficial, I may recommend that patients work with a therapist as part of their care team. I have extensive experience treating patients in various settings, including community mental health centers, VAMC-affiliated clinics, and hospital-based psychiatric units. I also have expertise in psychiatric consultations for medically ill patients, as well as guardianship and competency evaluations.

I am a board-certified adult psychiatrist with over 25 years of clinical experience. I earned my medical degree from the University of Texas Health Sciences Center San Antonio and completed my internship at UAB. I then completed my psychiatry residency at the University of Louisville Hospital, where I served as chief resident and received a national award in community psychiatry. Throughout my career, I have worked in both inpatient and outpatient settings as a staff psychiatrist, primarily in Texas and Alabama.

Patients can expect a thorough initial evaluation, where I take the time to understand their symptoms, history, and treatment goals. I provide a structured yet compassionate approach to care, ensuring that each patient feels heard and supported. Follow-up visits typically last 30 minutes, during which I monitor progress and adjust treatment as necessary. If additional therapy is needed, I collaborate with therapists to ensure comprehensive care tailored to each patient's needs.

At the center of my clinical approach is a strong emphasis on establishing trust and using a collaborative approach to help patients develop an individualized and cohesive plan so that they are able to achieve their goals. My practice focuses on medication management, which I typically offer in conjunction with supportive therapy, motivational interviewing, and/or cognitive behavioral therapy in 30-minute follow-up visits. Occasionally, I may recommend that additional therapy is needed and ask that you bring a therapist into your care team in order to provide the best outcome. I specialize in treating patients with a history of depression, anxiety, trauma, and substance use disorders.

I am a double board-certified adult and addiction psychiatrist who has been in practice for over 9 years. I received my medical degree from St. George's University School of Medicine. I went on to complete my residency in psychiatry at Harvard South Shore, an affiliate of Harvard Medical School, where I served as Chief Resident and earned my 360° Professionalism award. I then had additional training in Addiction Psychiatry through my fellowship at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center.

After completing training, I worked as an Addiction Psychiatrist and Director of Adult Services in the Trauma and Resilience Center (TRC) at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth). I have held an academic appointment at UTHealth, and I have spent my professional career supervising and teaching medical students and psychiatry residents.
