I employ a compassionate, humanistic approach designed to align closely with my patients' personal goals and values. My method integrates advanced psychopharmacology with psychotherapeutic techniques such as psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral, habit-reversal, and cognitive processing therapies. I aim to carefully balance diagnosis, avoiding both overdiagnosis and underdiagnosis, to ensure precise and tailored care. My approach is particularly effective in addressing conditions like anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, OCD, trauma-related issues, and other psychiatric conditions.

During the initial visit, patients can expect a comprehensive, detailed evaluation designed to thoroughly understand their individual experiences and needs. I prioritize establishing a compassionate and comfortable environment where patients can openly discuss their concerns and goals. This initial assessment is followed by meticulous and thoughtful follow-ups, providing clarity and direction in the treatment process.

I am a board-certified Psychiatrist in Adult Psychiatry. I received my bachelor's degree from Johns Hopkins University and a master's in Medical Humanities, Compassionate Care, and Bioethics from Stony Brook University. I earned my medical degree from Hofstra-Northwell School of Medicine and completed my residency at Rutgers-Robert Wood Johnson School of Medicine, where I specialized in advanced psychopharmacology with diverse patient populations. I also have extensive training and experience in psychotherapeutic modalities, including psychodynamic therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy, habit-reversal therapy, and cognitive processing therapy. Following my training, I provided inpatient consultation and crisis intervention services in New York City.

Richard Rise, MD

Dr. Richard Rise, MD

I take an individual approach to treating others, recognizing individuals as unique and worthy of love, respect, and acceptance. I am compassionate, non-judgmental, and truly enjoy helping others. I tend to gravitate towards a combination of medication management (if indicated) and psychotherapy where I treat all facets of the individual. I believe that we are all unique and should be treated as such.

Over the past 30 years I have created a successful career as a psychiatrist, participating in a variety of treatment settings and developing a wealth of experience in prescribing medications, providing therapy, counseling, and even coaching. I spent most of my career in private practice until deciding to retire in 2014. After this I spent the next 3 1/2 years reading, studying, traveling, and spending time with my loved ones. In 2018 I was offered a position as a consultant overseeing Ketamine infusion therapy for treating treatment-resistant depression. When the pandemic hit in March of 2020, I was asked to assist a local psychiatric hospital deal with the unique and often deadly consequences of the virus. This proved to be a wonderful opportunity for personal growth and to improve the quality of life of many others. After working at the hospital for 2 years, I joined Talkiatry to continue providing high-quality psychiatric care to others in a very loving, supportive, creative, and collaborative environment.

I approach healing as both a science and an art. My care is profoundly patient-centered, collaborative, and holistic, honoring the intricate connection between body, mind, and spirit. I believe in the quiet power of nourishment, restful sleep, joyful movement, and meaningful connection as essential threads in the fabric of wellness. I am a proud and affirming ally to the LGBTQIA community, creating a space where all identities are seen, respected, and supported.

I am dually board-certified in Child, Adolescent, and Adult Psychiatry, and my journey through medicine has been shaped by rich and diverse training. I completed my General Psychiatry residency at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, NY, and my fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Nassau University Medical Center in Long Island, NY. I have extensive experience treating a wide spectrum of conditions, including mood disorders, anxiety, trauma, ADHD, and sleep disturbances, and I tailor my approach to each individual's unique story.

My treatment model includes thoughtful, personalized medication management, with generous 30-minute follow-up sessions to ensure care is never rushed and always attuned to the patient's evolving needs. When appropriate, I may gently recommend the added support of a therapist, recognizing that healing is often a shared and layered journey. With a heart rooted in empathy and a mind guided by clinical excellence, I walk beside my patients on the path to well-being, honoring their resilience and helping them rediscover their wholeness.

I place a strong emphasis on establishing trust and building therapeutic relationships to help patients achieve their goals. My practice focuses on medication management, often combined with supportive or emotionally focused therapy during 30-minute follow-up visits. If I believe additional therapy would be beneficial, I may recommend that patients work with a therapist as part of their care team. I have extensive experience treating patients in various settings, including community mental health centers, VAMC-affiliated clinics, and hospital-based psychiatric units. I also have expertise in psychiatric consultations for medically ill patients, as well as guardianship and competency evaluations.

I am a board-certified adult psychiatrist with over 25 years of clinical experience. I earned my medical degree from the University of Texas Health Sciences Center San Antonio and completed my internship at UAB. I then completed my psychiatry residency at the University of Louisville Hospital, where I served as chief resident and received a national award in community psychiatry. Throughout my career, I have worked in both inpatient and outpatient settings as a staff psychiatrist, primarily in Texas and Alabama.

Patients can expect a thorough initial evaluation, where I take the time to understand their symptoms, history, and treatment goals. I provide a structured yet compassionate approach to care, ensuring that each patient feels heard and supported. Follow-up visits typically last 30 minutes, during which I monitor progress and adjust treatment as necessary. If additional therapy is needed, I collaborate with therapists to ensure comprehensive care tailored to each patient's needs.

At the center of my clinical approach is a strong emphasis on establishing trust and using a collaborative approach to help patients develop an individualized and cohesive plan so that they are able to achieve their goals. My practice focuses on medication management, which I typically offer in conjunction with supportive therapy, motivational interviewing, and/or cognitive behavioral therapy in 30-minute follow-up visits. Occasionally, I may recommend that additional therapy is needed and ask that you bring a therapist into your care team in order to provide the best outcome. I specialize in treating patients with a history of depression, anxiety, trauma, and substance use disorders.

I am a double board-certified adult and addiction psychiatrist who has been in practice for over 9 years. I received my medical degree from St. George's University School of Medicine. I went on to complete my residency in psychiatry at Harvard South Shore, an affiliate of Harvard Medical School, where I served as Chief Resident and earned my 360° Professionalism award. I then had additional training in Addiction Psychiatry through my fellowship at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center.

After completing training, I worked as an Addiction Psychiatrist and Director of Adult Services in the Trauma and Resilience Center (TRC) at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth). I have held an academic appointment at UTHealth, and I have spent my professional career supervising and teaching medical students and psychiatry residents.

For early-career psychiatrists, it offers a predictable start; for experienced clinicians, it provides scalability with transparency around expectations.
