Dr. Alicia Garcete is a board-certified child, adolescent, and adult psychiatrist in practice for over 12 years. Her practice focuses on medication management, recognizing  family involvement is extremely important and is an integral part of treatment. Dr Garcete has treated a wide variety of patients. Her primary focus is treating depression, anxiety disorders, ADHD, PTSD and OCD. Additionally, she can provide supportive therapy and elements of cognitive-behavioral therapy but on occasions more therapy support may be needed, and the recommendation to bring a psychotherapist on the care team may occur to provide an optimal outcome. Dr. Garcete is bilingual and provides care in both Spanish and English.

While at Johns Hopkins, I mastered clinical assessment and treatment of general psychiatric problems. I also received specialized training in eating disorders, addiction, reproductive psychiatry, chronic pain, and geriatric psychiatry, an interest I pursued further with a fellowship at University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. I have experience managing diverse patients ranging from chronic severe mental illness and dual diagnosis patients to crisis management and high-functioning outpatient populations. I have years of experience treating patients from different cultural and religious backgrounds. Prior to moving to the USA, I worked as a medical officer in a government hospital system.

I take a holistic approach when practicing, understanding the importance of an integrative treatment care model. I believe optimal patient care goes beyond psychopharmacology and requires incorporation of psychotherapy and psychosocial intervention. I am a strong advocate for my patients, dedicated to being an educator of mental illness to break self, societal, and systemic stigmas. I work on creating a safe and empathetic environment while providing psychoeducation to patients, empowering them to play an active role in their treatment. My practice focuses on medication management in combination with supportive therapy and providing psychoeducation to patients. I treat depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, general anxiety disorder, substance use disorders, and other associated psychiatric disorders.

I am an adult psychiatrist with specializations in Addiction Psychiatry and Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry, also known as psychosomatic medicine. I completed my residency training at New York Medical College and fellowship training at the Mount Sinai Health Systems located at Bronx Care and Beth Israel Hospital. I have worked in both inpatient and many outpatient specialty clinics such as psych/oncology, transplant, collaborative-care, medication assistance treatment, music and medicine, and gender affirmation surgery, treating patients with comorbid mental illness and substance use disorders as well as comorbid mental illness and general medical conditions.

I earned my medical degree from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences and completed my psychiatry residency at the University of Kentucky, where I served as Chief Resident

I am a board certified psychiatrist who began my medical training at Temple University in Philadelphia and completed my psychiatric residency at Stony Brook University Hospital, where I served as chief resident during my final year. I have worked in numerous psychiatric roles, including at a Comprehensive Psychiatric Emergency Program (CPEP) at Stony Brook University Hospital and on the inpatient voluntary psychiatric unit at Holy Name Hospital. I have also worked as a psychiatric consultant for patients admitted to medical-surgical units at Holy Name Hospital.

I was born and raised in Queens, NY, have spent much of my time in the North East, and am currently residing in New Jersey with my spouse and dog, Luna.
