I emphasize a patient-centered approach and believe that best treatment outcomes result from a strong therapeutic relationship between a patient and a psychiatrist. I treat a variety of psychiatric disorders in adults, including depression, anxiety, and PTSD. I do not treat patients with ADHD. I offer medication management and therapy through telehealth sessions, in both English and Korean.

I am a board-certified psychiatrist. I obtained my bachelor's degree from Tufts University, where I double majored in Biopsychology and Art History. I attended medical school at Nova Southeastern University and completed my psychiatry residency at Stony Brook University Medical Center. After graduating from residency, I was appointed clinical assistant professor at Renaissance School of Medicine, where I worked at the Treatment Resistant Depression Clinic. I was involved in teaching medical students and residents and was part of various research studies and publications.

My practice focuses on medication management. My goals include helping people feel comfortable seeking treatment as well as promoting an understanding of the purpose and reasoning behind the use of various medications to treat psychiatric disorders. Typically, I offer this in conjunction with supportive or emotionally focused therapy in 30-minute follow-up visits. When I believe that additional therapy is also needed, I will ask that you bring a therapist into your care team to provide the best outcome. I appreciate and value working with therapists within the Talkiatry practice and in the community in a collaborative effort to promote wellness. I strive to build strong therapeutic relationships with the people I see in my practice. I have interests in pharmacogenomics as well as treatment resistant approaches to depression.

I am a board certified general psychiatrist. Before joining Talkiatry, I practiced extensively in community mental health with adults of all ages in both outpatient and inpatient settings and as the medical director of several intensive outpatient and dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT) based programs. I also have experience in private practice and in the dual diagnoses of mental health and substance abuse disorders. I graduated from Carnegie Mellon University with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and Psychology and then completed medical school at West Virginia University School of Medicine. I trained during my residency at WVU, where I served as a chief resident and received the Brandon K. Fuller Award for Physician Empathy in 2017. I appear in several professional publications.

My passions include working in the community at large to encourage a better understanding of mental health disorders and to promote suicide awareness and prevention.

My treatment approach begins with establishing a good therapeutic rapport with my patients and listening to them so that they feel heard. I like to spend time providing psychoeducation on medications when discussing the treatment plan. My practice focuses on medication management primarily, but may incorporate supportive psychotherapy during medication visits. I may recommend additional psychotherapy if I feel a patient may benefit from this. My current practice does not include the use of any controlled substance medications, such as stimulants, benzodiazepines, and certain sleep aids.

I am a board-certified General and Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist with over nine years of experience. My practice focuses on medication management, which is founded not only on evidence-based medicine but also on the understanding that a trusting therapeutic relationship is the cornerstone of behavioral health healing. I incorporate CBT, supportive therapy, and psychoeducation into my medication management appointments and may refer patients for additional psychotherapy to improve outcomes. I believe a whole-person approach with open, collaborative teamwork is the key to progress.

I received my Bachelor of Science degree from Ursinus College, with a dual major in Biochemistry/Molecular Biology and Neuroscience. After receiving a Health Professions Scholarship from the Army, I obtained my medical degree from Jefferson Medical College. I went on to enter active duty military service and complete General Psychiatry residency training and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry fellowship training at Tripler Army Medical Center before completing active duty service as a staff psychiatrist and 101st Airborne Division psychiatrist at Fort Campbell, KY. There I cared for active duty service members and their families to manage depression, anxiety, trauma, and the unique stressors of military service.

I later transitioned to federal civilian service and served as a preceptor for Phase II Physician Assistant trainees and Army Social Work interns, reinforcing a passion for education that carried me to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNMMC). During my time at WRNMMC, I served in several roles including Deputy Medical Director of Inpatient Psychiatry, core faculty for the National Capital Consortium Psychiatry Residency Program, Associate Program Director, and associate faculty at the Uniform Services University for Health Sciences (USUHS). Prior to transitioning out of federal service to join Talkiatry, I was repeatedly recognized for excellence in academics and mentorship and received multiple teaching awards. This zeal for education and mentorship, as well as humility, personal growth, and learning, translates directly into my philosophy for patient care.

I believe in building strong therapeutic relationships with my patients, integrating conservative psychological treatments and lifestyle modifications to enhance overall well-being and quality of life. I primarily provide medication management combined with supportive or emotionally focused therapy, and I emphasize creating individualized care plans tailored to each patient's unique needs. While medication and supportive therapy are central to my approach, I occasionally recommend involving an additional therapist to optimize treatment outcomes. I specialize in managing a broad range of psychiatric conditions, including depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, postpartum depression, OCD, and PTSD.

Patients meeting me for the first time can expect a thoughtful and comprehensive assessment focused on building rapport and understanding their personal and clinical needs. I emphasize creating a strong therapeutic relationship and developing an individualized care plan designed specifically to address each patient's symptoms and lifestyle. Follow-up appointments typically last around 30 minutes, during which medication management and supportive therapy are provided. Depending on patient needs, I might suggest incorporating additional therapeutic support to achieve the best possible results.

Dr. Jennifer Shoenfelt, MD

My practice focuses on child and adolescent medication management. I typically offer this in conjunction with supportive or emotionally focused therapy in 30-minute follow-up visits. Occasionally, however, I may believe that additional therapy is needed and will ask that you bring a therapist into your care team to provide the best outcome. I provide treatment plans that include holistic recommendations for diet, exercise, and educational and psychosocial/spiritual aspects of care. I am known for listening to and respecting patients' stories and walking them on a path of recovery and growth.

I am a staff psychiatrist at Talkiatry and am double board certified in child and adolescent psychiatry and adult psychiatry. I received my medical degree from the Boonshoft School of Medicine at Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio, and my Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Therapy from The Ohio State University. Prior to attending medical school, I practiced for 14 years in physical therapy with a specialization in children with developmental and neurological disabilities. I have held multiple positions in hospital and outpatient psychiatry, including community mental health, developmental and foster care settings, and medical director positions. I have also served as clinical faculty for both the Wright State Department of Psychiatry and the University of Cincinnati School of Medicine. I have a passion for the education of medical students, residents, and patients.

My practice focuses on medication management as well as supportive and insight-oriented psychotherapy. I believe that a combination of therapy and medications helps provide a patient with the best outcome. My goal is to help patients live their best and most fulfilling lives. In addition to general psychiatry, I have a keen interest in mood disorders, helping creatives achieve their goals, and the LGBTQ community.

I am a board-certified psychiatrist who has been in practice for 25 years. My career has been devoted to serving both my local community as well as high-risk and underserved patients. As a pioneer and advocate for the use of telepsychiatry years prior to the pandemic, I have presented at the American Telehealth conference as well as at grand rounds.

I approach medication management with an emphasis on shared decision-making within safe, effective options, thorough counseling about what to expect in treatment, and giving attention to the concurrent use of non-medication modalities of treatment alongside optimizing medication. I am accustomed to working with people who have more than one diagnosis. I am skilled and experienced in de-prescribing (methodically streamlining the number of medications being taken) when needed. Patients can see me for medication management, therapy, or both.

I am board certified in Adult Psychiatry. I graduated from the University of Illinois College of Medicine in Chicago in 2004. I was selected for the Health Professions Scholarship Program and completed my residency in 2008 at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth in Virginia, where I was chief resident. Following residency, I deployed to Kuwait as a medical officer. I have taught and supervised residents at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. I left active duty in the Navy as a Lieutenant Commander. After becoming a civilian, I went into solo practice, then joined Potomac Behavioral Solutions in 2014, where I served as medical director. I am a past president of the Virginia Psychoanalytic Society. I also lecture advanced mental health professionals for Lingyu International Psychology Centre based in Toronto.

My Talkiatry practice will mostly focus on medication management in conjunction with support or acceptance-based therapy during 30-minute follow-up visits. I hope to collaborate with my patients to help set treatment goals and ways to track progress in between appointments. I enjoy seeing patients with a wide variety of diagnoses including, but not limited to, major depressive disorder, bipolar disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and generalized anxiety disorder, and I enjoy combining medication management with various therapy techniques.

I am board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in Adult Psychiatry. I completed my residency training at Vidant Medical Center at East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina in 2021, where I was the chief resident. Since then, I have worked as an attending physician at an inpatient adult psychiatric unit in Burlington, North Carolina. As a resident and attending, I have treated adults of all ages and in all areas of mental health.

  • Licensing support with upfront coverage of costs
  • Provided technology package for seamless virtual care
  • Virtual faculty practice, inclusive of education, research and engagement opportunities
  • And more
How does compensation work?

Is there a cost to my health system?

Clinicians receive a base salary plus monthly productivity incentives. This structure provides stable income with the ability to increase earnings based on caseload and scheduling preferences. For early-career psychiatrists, it offers a predictable start; for experienced clinicians, it provides scalability with transparency around expectations.

Can I work anywhere?

Is there a cost to my health system?

Yes. Our roles are fully remote within the United States. We also provide multi-state licensure support, so you can expand your reach without added administrative burden.

Do you offer full-time and part-time roles?

Is there a cost to my health system?

Yes, both part-time and full-time scheduling options are available. Clinicians set their own schedules, whether building a panel early in their career, balancing professional and family commitments, or transitioning into retirement.
