Biography
Matthew Poje is a Licensed Professional Counselor who earned a master's degree from Franciscan University of Steubenville, Ohio, and completed a trauma therapy specialty through Intensive Trauma Therapy Inc. in West Virginia. He spent 15 years supporting active and reserve Service Members through a Department of Defense mental health program with an emphasis on suicide prevention, followed by 5 years providing mobile crisis response alongside law enforcement. Since 2023, he has provided outpatient therapy via telehealth.
Matthew values open communication and works collaboratively with patients to establish clear treatment goals. He fosters a warm, supportive environment where patients feel heard and respected. He specializes in healing emotional trauma using the Instinctual Trauma Response (ITR) method, helping patients better understand and process the effects of traumatic experiences.
Matthew begins by gaining a thorough understanding of each patient's history, concerns, and goals. He develops individualized treatment plans and provides psychoeducation on the ITR method, as well as brain anatomy and function, to explain the healing process. His approach emphasizes recognizing moments of choice, helping patients shift from unconscious reactions to intentional, healthy responses.
