Biography
Most of my work as a therapist is with adults, including older adults, who are working through substance use and other mental health concerns in an outpatient setting. Earlier in my career I spent a lot of time supporting children and adolescents with behavioral modification, and that work shaped the practical, skills-focused way I approach things now.
My approach is client-driven, which means I follow your lead rather than hand you a script. I offer a supportive listening ear, and I try to be honest and compassionate at the same time, because I think people can tell when you're only being one or the other. I lean on CBT and solution-focused strategies, and I use psychoeducation to help build insight into what's actually going on. I'm also trained in EMDR, and I can incorporate Christian counseling for clients who want their faith to be part of the work.
A first visit usually starts with what brought you in and a little history on what you're dealing with. From there we set goals together, and I often send you off with some practical homework so the coping skills we talk about get a chance to show up in your everyday life. I have an appreciation for kindness and simple joy, and I try to bring a bit of that to the room.
Curious whether the two of us would work well together? That's exactly what a first appointment is for.
